SHRINK SLEEVE LABELLING ATTRACTIVE LABELLING FOR ANY SIZE OR SHAPE

STAY ON TOP OF LABELLING TRENDS Subject to increasing regulatory demands globally, labelling today is a highly intricate process and more vital to your products than ever before. The moment of truth Differentiating your products on the supermarket shelves is very important as there is so much competition, and eye-catching labels can really make your products stand out. It is the most dynamic and changeable product packaging element and a prime consideration for beverage producers everywhere. Personalised one-of-a-kind labels The increasing popularity of beverage label personalisation presents challenges in the labelling process, as batch sizes are becoming smaller and timing tighter. This means customised labels must be designed and produced quickly, something not easily accomplished given the number of processes involved. Sustainably and cost efficiently using less materials As sustainability becomes a greater consideration for retailers and consumers in the decision-making process, producers seek solutions that minimise environmental impact while maximising efficiency, decreasing costs and ensuring reliable performance. While thinner labels lead to lower resource use, and ultimately lower costs, less glue can also simplify the recycling process, reduce maintenance and increase machine efficiency. Flexibility for more production possibilities When it comes to labelling a variety of beverage types and bottle formats, more than ever before, flexibility has become a valuable benefit to beverage producers. The top priorities today are faster product and format changeovers, simple operations and optimised processes that use the same line for different label types. 40 years of labelling excellence As a leading labelling manufacturer and complete line supplier, we are well aware of your need for attractive packaging as well as sustainable and cost-efficient production. At Sidel, we make sure you stay on top of industry trends. With 40 years of industry labelling experience and almost 4,000 machines installed worldwide, we have the expertise to meet all your labelling needs. SHRINK SLEEVE LABELLING ATTRACTIVE LABELLING FOR ANY SIZE OR SHAPE Today, shrink sleeve represents around 20% of labelling production and is one of the fastest growing formats. The increasing success of this heat-shrink sleeve label is mainly due to its potential to be more customised, innovative and eye catching. This is key to influencing the consumer purchasing decision and ensuring a significant impact on your product s success. Shrink sleeve labels provide far more branding opportunities than conventional labels, and there are no restrictions on container shape because the film is heat shrunk into position and adapts to any surface. including the cap, the label sleeve can function as an effective seal and in the case of juices, teas, sports drinks and liquid dairy products, it can serve as a light barrier to protect the liquid. With heat shrinking, no traces of glue are left on the bottle, simplifying the recycling process. Our flexible shrink sleeve solution The unique Rollsleeve labeller combines the simplicity of Sidel consolidated roll-fed technology, with an innovative high-speed shrink sleeve process in one single machine. At the same time, it is especially suitable for lightweight containers. Covering the whole bottle ROLLSLEEVE Efficient, top quality labelling: A single rotating knife ensures a very precise sleeve cut. The automated vacuum system delivers 20% higher precision in label quality and application, while long-life single rotating cutting blades increase stability and control. The accurate sealing creates no visual or tactile flaws after shrinkage. Cost efficient and sustainable: Costs related to sleeve forming are unnecessary with Rollsleeve. It does not use glue or solvents. It is also able to apply sustainable, recyclable films up to 50% thinner than comparable systems, and can process lightweight bottles. Flexible: With its compact footprint and modular design, Rollsleeve can be installed in various configurations. It can easily switch from sleeved bottles to roll-fed labelling using classic hotmelt applications. It is also suitable for all types of containers and label materials. SHRINK SLEEVE LABELLING STRIKING DESIGNS PLUS SAVINGS WITH ROLLSLEEVE 1 3 3 2 1 2 4 3 1 The Rollsleeve labeller combines the Sidel consolidated roll-fed technology with an innovative shrink sleeve process in one single machine. 2 Rollsleeve has a continuous throughput and automatically controls the flow of containers entering and exiting the machine. 3 The containers are located on individual rotating sleeve drums that lift them up into position. 4 The containers are picked up from the screw feeder and transferred by the infeed starwheel to the bottle carousel. THE LABELLING PROCESS 1 Container infeed Rollsleeve has a continuous throughput and automatically controls the flow of containers entering and exiting the machine. The containers are picked up from the conveyor by a screw feeder, which sets them at the right pitch, and they are then transferred by the infeed starwheel to the bottle carousel. 2 3 Sleeve labelling station and carousel The containers are located on individual rotating sleeve drums that lift them up into position. Once precisely cut with the rotating knife, the labels are transferred from the vacuum drum to the cylindrical drums. They are wrapped and maintained with a vacuum: the label is closed edge to edge and sealed with a heating bar, without glue. The sleeve drums holding the bottles are then lowered into the pre-formed sleeve labels. Sleeve-labelled container outfeed and shrinking tunnel After leaving the machine, the sleeved bottles move inside a steam or hot air heat tunnel for the shrinking process. The shrinking ratio can range from 40% to 70% depending on the film type and thickness. 8 9

1 4 5 2 3 1 The sleeved bottles move inside a steam or hot air heat tunnel for the shrinking process, with a shrinking ratio ranging from 40% to 70%. 2 Once precisely cut with the rotating knife, the labels are transferred from the vacuum drum to the cylindrical drums. 3 The labels wrapped and maintained with a vacuum, are closed edge to edge and sealed with a heating bar, without glue. 4 The sleeve drums holding the bottles are lowered into the pre-formed sleeve labels. 5 The sleeved bottles are transferred by the outfeed starwheel. LABEL APPLICATION Patented machine direction orientation Compared to traditional Transversal Direction Orientation (TDO) where sleeve labels are already formed in tubes on the reel, Rollsleeve applies labels with a Machine Direction Orientation (MDO) at speeds up to 54,000 bottles per hour, and is one of the fastest sleevers on the market. Rollsleeve applies MDO labels where final tube creation and welding are performed directly in the labelling machine. The seaming area is positioned exactly on the edge of the label. The heat and cool sealing system, based on innovative impulse sealing welding bars, ensures precise quality welding, suitable for a wide range of film materials and thicknesses with no visual or tactile flaws. The bottle is lowered onto the sleeve using the sleeve drum which makes bottle height irrelevant to labelling speed. A vision system can be added for sleeved and roll-fed bottles for specific label positioning. Optimal processing with a quick payback With a significant potential for flexibility and labelling quality, Rollsleeve incorporates a string of technological advances, which can reduce operating costs and environmental impact. The MDO film can generate costs savings up to 30%. And with a throughput of 200 million bottles per year, savings on label material costs alone can contribute to a full payback on your investment in just 18 months (compared to a TDO film of the same label thickness). The creation of tubular sleeves in the machine requires far less material, and label costs are drastically decreased. Logistics costs are reduced as a reel of high shrink MDO film contains 3 times more labels than a TDO reel. Lowering containers into sleeves without movement or stress enables the handling of labels up to 50% thinner than TDO or other MDO roll-fed machines. Sleeve seaming is completed inside the machine so no glue or solvents are used. This makes PET recycling much easier. There is no detrimental impact on the machine s efficiency and the equipment stays cleaner and more hygienic, while maintenance is reduced. FORMAT CHANGEOVERS AND MAINTENANCE Flexibility of containers and films Rollsleeve can easily switch between shrink sleeves and roll-fed labels with fast and efficient changeover times. It also offers great flexibility in terms of container and label types. It can label all types of containers, from glass to plastic, on round or irregularly shaped containers. It is suitable for bottle sizes up to 2 litres with diameters ranging from 50 mm to 100 mm. The sealing system is compatible with a wide range of label types such as PET, PVC, PE, R-PET, PLA, OPS, PP etc., with thickness ranging from 15 µm to 130 µm, and is suitable for recycling. It can apply full body sleeves or partial body sleeves by being equipped with a module to selectively position labels at predetermined heights on bottles (from 50 mm to 230 mm).
