HEKAPLAST PE-HD twin wall cable ducts and cable protection pipes for underground installation HEGLER HEKAPLAST III/ HEKAPLAST: Twin wall cable ducts or cable protection pipes to DIN 696, manufactured from environmentally friendly PE-HD, available in coils or straight lengths Application: l Power supply lines Communication cables Wiring systems in rail traffic All kinds of wire harnesses in industrial construction Suitable for installation at low temperatures thanks to PE-HD Corrugated and Twin Wall Pipes of Plastics

20 00 HEKAPLAST Cable Ducts: Protective Pipes for 20 00 Municipal infrastructure Under crossings of city roads a sufficient number of cable conduits should be provided for the accommodation of control and supply lines for lighting systems, road lighting and traffic management systems. Highway construction In highway construction, the necessary cable conduits along motorways and federal highways should be budgeted in the planning phase already. Wire harness is required for: Traffic management systems Emergency telephones Local power supply Railway systems It is common practice to install wiring systems for rail traffic management parallel to the tracks. More recent technical standards suggest the use of cable conduits. The flexibility of corrugated conduits renders this type of pipe particularly suitable for this purpose as it can be easily diverted around the pole foundations for overhead lines. Communication systems The fast-paced world of media and communication will necessitate a multiple of fibre optics for a reliable supply of each household in the future. By the provision of additional ductwork for cables, cost-intensive construction work can be avoided. 2

Versatile and Universal Use A forward-looking provision of cable ducts (empty tubes) can help to avoid subsequent and cost-intensive dig-up work. In road construction, cable ducts have a wide range of application, going from street lighting to the control of traffic management systems. Railway systems make use of cable ducts both in areas of high track density and in open route. 3

HEKAPLAST Cable Ducts: Protective Pipes for HEKAPLAST-R HEKAPLAST-R is a flexible twin wall pipe. Its extremely high flexibility in longitudinal direction makes the pipe particularly well-suited for complicated cable routes like installations around foundations or other obstacles. The table on page 6 shows the minimum bending radii applicable to the different HEKAPLAST-R sizes. The handy pull-in aid All HEKAPLAST rolls are supplied with a pull wire which is intended for the insertion of a hauling rope but not for cables. Tensile strength of the pull wire: a) steel wire: F R = 0.35 kn b) plastic wire: F R = 0.52 kn Product description HEKAPLAST cable ducts or cable protection pipes are made from PE-HD in twin wall design in accordance with DIN 696 Thermoplastics pipes and fittings with profiled outer and smooth inner surfaces. HEKAPLAST pipes are available in two options: straight lengths: HEKAPLAST-S rolls: HEKAPLAST-R Ring Stiffness The ring stiffness of HEKAPLAST pipes, when determined in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9969 Thermoplastic Pipes Determination of Ring Stiffness, is as follows: DN 40 to 0: S 8.0 kn/m² DN 25 to 200: S 5.0 kn/m² Professional installation provided, the pipe s stability under traffic loads is guaranteed by this. If tested according to DIN 696, HEKAPLAST has the following ring stiffness: DN 40 to 200: S R24 6.0 kn/m² (Pipe Class 4) 4

Simple Handling, Economic and Permanent Use Pipe joints Pipes are connected by couplings with tightness of the joint being ensured by special profiled seals. The seal should be lubricated and fitted in the first or second completely shaped corrugation of a pipe. Prior to jointing it is recommended that the insertion depth be marked on the pipe to ensure the joint is fully made. Tightness The degree of tightness of pipes and pipe joints depends on the classification of the pipe system in accordance with DIN EN 60529. Components and Meaning of IP Codes Identification letters IP Identification figure Meaning for Protection of Equipment against penetration of solids Meaning for Protection of Persons against access to dangerous parts with st figure 0 (no protection) (no protection),0 mm diameter back of hands 2 2,5 mm diameter fingers 3 2,5 mm diameter tools 4,0 mm diameter wire 5 protected against dust wire 6 dust-proof wire against penetration of water with harmful effects in case of 2 nd figure 0 (no protection) vertical dripping 2 dripping (gradient 5 ) 3 spray water 4 splash water 5 jet water 6 strong jet water IP Rating 66, 67: The IP ratings 66 and 67 are only met by HEKAPLAST-S (uncoiled product) and couplings without locking cams where the seal has been properly placed. It is important that the corrugation of the pipe profile remains undamaged. The rating is guaranteed for installation in earth-moist ground. The use in regular natural or layer ground water is not permissible. IP rating 54 (sand-tight): Sand-tightness to IP rating 54 is met by both HEKAPLAST types (R and S, coiled and uncoiled product) with no seals required in the couplings. 7 temporary submersion 8* permanent submersion * Test conditions to DIN EN 60529 : 99 + A : 2000 as agreed upon 5

Installation instructions For the laying of HEKAPLAST cable ducts, the installation instructions of the manufacturer have to be observed. Adequate bedding in a sand or gravel layer (soil group ) and proper compaction, D Pr 95 %, ensure that the pipe s stability meets the requirements for laying depths between 0.8 and 6.0 m and traffic loads SLW 60 to DIN 072. Installation and bedding shall be carried out in accordance with the relevant technical specifications which are: DIN EN 60, ZTVA- StB 97 Excavations in Traffic Areas of FGSV, Installation Guide A 535 of Kunststoffrohrverband and TELECOM Specifications ZTV-FLN and 2. Multi-layer installation Gaps between the pipes shall be carefully backfilled and compacted by hand. In areas where high traffic loads occur, the pipe trench shall be backfilled with a sand/ cement mixture. If the laying depth is extremely low or high, pipes shall be bedded in a supporting layer of concrete. Storage and transport Pipes should be stored in the original stillages until installed. It is important that they be stored on an even and smooth surface at all times. Outdoor storage should be minimised and limited to a maximum period of six months (black colour). Handling during transport should be exercised with the usual care: scrubbing rims, unsecured freight or uneven support to be avoided, no tipping or throwing from vehicles. 7
