Our commitment We accept responsibility

SCHOTT is a leading international technology group in the areas of specialty glass and glass-ceramics. With more than 130 years of outstanding development, materials and technology expertise we offer a broad portfolio of high-quality products and intelligent solutions that contribute to our customers success. Corporate responsibility and the importance of family have long been prominent features of our corporate culture here at SCHOTT. These commitments date back to our founder, Otto Schott, and his partner, Ernst Abbe, and are embodied by the Statute of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, which was adopted in 1889 and still applies to all of our activities. This company constitution mandates our obligations to promote economic and research activities, and contains provisions relating to the public interest and public institutions.

Health, safety and environmental protection Reconciliation of work and family life Corporate responsibility Science

Health, safety and environmental protection The safety and health of people, the protection of the environment and the averting of external dangers are important corporate goals of SCHOTT. Our Integrated Management System for Safety, Security, Health and Environment IMSU/EHS in short provides the set of rules and the organizational framework to achieve this goal. IMSU/EHS is binding for all units and all employees of SCHOTT worldwide.

As part of its Zero Accidents program, SCHOTT has managed to reduce the accident rate by a third at its global sites since 2008.

Health, safety and environmental protection Health Policy (worldwide) Occupational health management with the slogan Stay healthy! You are important to me. has been part of our corporate culture for many years. Group-wide strategic objectives with which SCHOTT has committed itself to protecting its employees health over the long term have been formulated on the six key focus areas. A uniform poster wall called the Wall of Health informs all of the company s employees all over the world about relevant health topics, ongoing activities and upcoming health campaigns.

As part of its Zero Accidents program, SCHOTT has managed to reduce the accident rate by a third at its global sites since 2008.

Health, safety and environmental protection SCHOTT Health Day (worldwide) The SCHOTT Health Day takes place at least once a year in all SCHOTT locations. The topic and date can be chosen individually by the site according to their needs. The aim is to inform the employees about different health risks, to offer appropriate training courses and to motivate people to take up a healthy lifestyle to prevent illness.

As part of its Zero Accidents program, SCHOTT has managed to reduce the accident rate by a third at its global sites since 2008.

Health, safety and environmental protection Ergonomics (worldwide) We want to make sure that employees are protected against physical injury by designing their workplaces appropriately. To implement this goal, company-wide training has taken place since 2012 to comprehensively analyze and evaluate workplaces. Technical improvements have been implemented and will be constantly optimized through a continuous improvement process. Where effective technical solutions cannot be implemented, corrective exercises are offered adapted to the workplace.

As part of its Zero Accidents program, SCHOTT has managed to reduce the accident rate by a third at its global sites since 2008.

Health, safety and environmental protection Leadership and Health Through the seminar series Leadership & Health, which began in 2008, the managers and supervisors in all German sites have been given guidelines to recognize and to minimize stressful workplace situations, so that they become aware of their important function in the preservation of the health of their people and can act appropriately. Feedback from the workshops is presented to the Management Board and is used as input to the further development of the areas of focus for Corporate Health Management.

As part of its Zero Accidents program, SCHOTT has managed to reduce the accident rate by a third at its global sites since 2008.

Health, safety and environmental protection Go Green (Penang, Malaysia) At one of the oldest SCHOTT production facilities in Asia, Penang, Malaysia, employees have taken it upon themselves to sponsor their own green areas. Planting flowers and taking care of a plot of land serves to strengthen the team spirit and it also enhances the interior and exterior appearance of the production site.

As part of its Zero Accidents program, SCHOTT has managed to reduce the accident rate by a third at its global sites since 2008.

Health, safety and environmental protection Green glass (worldwide) SCHOTT is a pioneer in many different fields when it comes to green glass. For example, the company underscores its pioneering achievement in its manufacturing process for SCHOTT CERAN glass-ceramic cooktop panels. Here, SCHOTT developed a patented production process that for the first time no longer requires the use of the toxic heavy metals arsenic and antimony. These are normally used to free glass of bubbles. SCHOTT has thus set an environmental standard for the future and found a way to dispense with using more than 180 tons of arsenic and antimony every year. CERAN was certified by TÜV for this achievement and recognized with the German Innovation Award 2010 among other honors.

As part of its Zero Accidents program, SCHOTT has managed to reduce the accident rate by a third at its global sites since 2008.

Reconciliation of work and family life No company can hope to achieve success without highly motivated employees. We work hard to ensure that our employees can successfully juggle the demands of work and family. We also offer an extensive health management program for our employees.

Back in 1896, SCHOTT introduced dismissal protection, profit sharing, pensions and other extensive social rights for employees.

Reconciliation of work and family life SCHOTT goes Family (worldwide) The goals of the global exchange program for employees children SCHOTT goes Family are to gain international experience, to encourage understanding of other cultures and thus to support the personal development of young people. Each employee whose child travels abroad over the holidays has the son or daughter of the host family live with him or her in exchange. This means not only the young exchange partners get to connect. The employees and their families come in contact across national borders, professional levels and company divisions.

Back in 1896, SCHOTT introduced dismissal protection, profit sharing, pensions and other extensive social rights for employees.

Reconciliation of work and family life SCHOTT day care center (Mainz, Germany) We are committed to being a family-friendly employer. Our day care center in Mainz, Germany, is open year-round, even during school holidays. Infant day care and kindergarten groups are available, as well as an afterschool care center to meet the needs of all age groups.

Back in 1896, SCHOTT introduced dismissal protection, profit sharing, pensions and other extensive social rights for employees.

Reconciliation of work and family life Flexible working time models By offering various innovative working time and shift models, we try to meet the individual time needs of our employees and allow for flexible management of working time. Trust-based working hours, part-time working models, job sharing and life phase-oriented working time are just a few of the offers that are available to employees to adapt their working hours to their current life situation. Alternating home office gives our employees the opportunity to strike a balance between work and family life due to more time sovereignty. Service workplaces that employ the latest telecommunication technologies also contribute to the mobility and flexibility of our employees.

Back in 1896, SCHOTT introduced dismissal protection, profit sharing, pensions and other extensive social rights for employees.

Reconciliation of work and family life Demography-oriented personnel policy Demographic change with declining birth rates and higher life expectancy in many developed countries increasingly leads to a lack of qualified young people and longer working lives. SCHOTT counters this with target audience-specific strategies and solutions developed through social partnership. To attract qualified new staff, SCHOTT relies on employment of apprentices after successful completion of vocational training, but also on transferring the German education system to sites outside of Germany. The company supports the health of its employees through occupational health management and by developing shift models based on occupational medical findings.

Back in 1896, SCHOTT introduced dismissal protection, profit sharing, pensions and other extensive social rights for employees.

Corporate responsibility SCHOTT strongly adheres to the belief of corporate responsibility. Our efforts in this area focus on regional projects as well as projects involving children and teenagers.
