PREPARATION Prepare your parcels

1 Reach To make sure your parcels are machineable, they should meet the following conditions: They should be very stable to prevent them from flipping over. Always fill them out with cushioning material or bubble wrap. Use regular shapes with at least one side showing the transport label horizontally. Use suitable and sufficiently strong packaging for the contents. Avoid using complicated shapes and materials that make it harder to read the label, such as plastic and cellophane which are shiny and reflect. Your parcels should be sealed closed using a securing method that does not overlap, with no string, handles, flap, etc. If you can, use compact packaging which will make the parcel stronger. If you are sending rolls use machineable tubes (triangular or square overpacking guaranteeing the stability of the parcel). Standard, non machineable rolls, are systematically priced higher. Label and customs documents To ship your parcel to its destination, it needs a label that is machinereadable by La Poste. We recommend you ensure that: It is correctly printed Has no blank lines Has nothing crossed out Is positioned flat on the largest side of the parcel Has no creases. The parcel packaging should never conceal the information on the label, not even partially. 1 CN 23 customs declaration The CN 23 proves the origin, nature and value of your shipment. This document is established by the exporter and is his responsibility. With it the customs services in the country of destination can determine whether the goods are subject to customs duties or taxes. Without this document, the parcels would be retained at customs or returned to France. How to fill them in 1. CUSTOMS CLEARANCE Pro-forma invoice and commercial invoice For non-commercial shipments (without a commercial transaction) (i.e. gifts or samples), you can produce 2 copies of a pro forma invoice. For commercial shipments (i.e. products intended for sale in the country of destination), you must produce 2 copies of the commercial invoice. Practical advice Customs documents (CN 23, pro forma invoices), when they are needed, must be inserted into a transparent self-adhesive document envelope stuck to the side of the package with the value of the goods being shipped easily visible. 1 The invoice declaration (DOF) or EUR1 or ATR for Turkey The European Union has special relationships with a large number of non-member countries. Thanks to these relationships your exports enjoy special customs clearance arrangements Reach These special arrangements allow the recipient to take advantage of a reduction of or an exemption of customs duties on arrival. To take advantage of these arrangements, you must prove that the goods in question are from the European Union. 1 The single administrative document (SAD) If the value of your shipment is above 1,000 (1), you will also need to fill out the SAD (single administrative document) in addition to producing the CN23 and the pro forma invoice. La Poste can issue this document on behalf of the sender if necessary. Proof of export Where can you get one? At the Chamber of Commerce and industry (CCI). Advantage La Poste fills out this document for the customer if needed.
