8Spot drainage Spot drainage Planning references Balcony and patio drainage Spot drainage Basics Balcony/terrace drainage The planning and execution of the balcony and terrace drainage in housing demand a high degree of individual customization from architects and processors. Regardless of the functional seal of the terrace or the design of the floor construction with an integration of downspouts on balconies from an aesthetic point of view, the object-specific conditions and customer needs must always be taken into account. The product range for the balcony and terrace drainage by ACO provides a remedy: Here you will find the best drain solution for every application that ensures the easy adjustment of all technical and visual aspects. The balcony and terrace drainage therefore harmoniously fits into the appearance of a building. Material All balcony and terrace drains are made of stainless steel, material grade 304. The extremely low thermal expansion of the material will save otherwise conventional expansion compensation material - including concreting and sealing. Products The product range of ACO Haustechnik include single drains that are suitable for individual terraces / balconies, as well as direct drains that allow the pooling of several balcony drains. Both drain types can be supplied with a reinforcement flange for the installation without a seal or with compression-sealing flanges for sealing membranes. Standards The single or direct drains are made in conformity with EN 1253. Installation recommendations In addition to the installations shown in the EBV document, you will find installation recommendations in dwg, dxf and pdf formats at www.aco-haustechnik.de. Modular structure Planning modern balcony and terrace drains requires various application solutions depending on the installation situation. Based on this reason, the balcony and terrace drain product range by ACO Haustechnik is designed modular. The drain bodies are the planning principle. Depending on the model, the drains are available with vertical or horizontal drain sockets. Depending on the model, the drain bodies can be combined with intermediate sections and various top systems. The proper drain solution can therefore be produced for any application and floor structure. Insulation If drains are delivered in an insulated version, the insulation is carried out with CFCfree polyurethane foam with the following characteristics: Bulk density 50 55 kg/m³ Heat conductivity: 0.032 W/(mk) Foam structure: 85 95 % closed cells Water vapour resistance factor: 30 80 μ Water absorption: 2-5 % System Single drain System Direct drain 322

Balcony and patio drainage Spot drainage Spot drainage Planning references 8 Applications and solutions The variety and possible combination of ACO balcony and terrace drains is ideal for use in all possible applications. Balcony drains can therefore be combined with compression-sealing flanges for film seals via suitable pipe systems and downpipe ducts as illustrated on the left. The right illustration shows a combined drainage system of several balcony drains without a seal. Application: Balcony plates without moisture seal With cement screed flooring or poured asphalt Balcony/terrace drainage Spot drainage The single stainless steel drain with reinforced flange is inserted in the balcony plate. The cement floor covering is flush with the round height adjustable plastic grating. The direct stainless steel drain with reinforced flange is inserted in the balcony plate. A circular filter is also available in addition to a round stainless steel grating. This allows the downpipe connection of higher balcony areas, where the positions of the corresponding balcony drains must be coordinated. The ACO direct balcony drains Speed have a very high priority in redevelopment. They are ideally suited for the installation in superimposed balconies, either for the installation into an already assembled drain (if its diameter is large enough), or for the installation in boreholes. The balcony plate is finally coated according to the thin bed method. Balcony plate of finished concrete parts or in situ concrete with exposed concrete surface The direct stainless steel drain with bell is generally already inserted in the balcony plate in the precast concrete plant. A circular filter is also available in addition to a round stainless steel grating. This allows the downpipe connection of higher located balcony areas, where the positions of the corresponding balcony drains must be coordinated. 323

8Spot drainage Spot drainage Planning references Balcony and patio drainage Spot drainage Application: Balcony plates with moisture seal Balcony/terrace drainage Balcony plate with plate cover on plate beds or support gravel (drainage in one or two levels) This stainless steel single drain with compression-sealing flange is inserted in the balcony plate, where the rotating top section is placed flush to the floor cover. Any surface water that leaks through the floor cover accumulates below the tile cover on the sealing level and is channelled from here to the drain body via the the weeping holes in the flange. Balcony plate with plate cover on plate beds or support gravel (drainage in two levels) This stainless steel single drain with compression-sealing flange is inserted in the balcony plate, where the rotating top section including intermediate piece with filter holes is placed flush to the floor cover. Any surface water that leaks through the floor cover accumulates below the tile cover on the sealing level and is channelled from here to the drain body via the the intermediate piece with weeping holes. With tiled flooring with a mortar bed (drainage in one or two levels) - for downpipe ducts/ upper balconies The direct stainless steel drain with compression-sealing flange is inserted in the balcony ceiling. The rotating top section is placed flush to the floor. In addition to a stainless steel grating, a stainless steel grating for downpipe ducts is also available. This allows the downpipe connection of higher balcony areas, where the positions of the corresponding balcony drains must be coordinated. Any surface water that leaks through the floor cover accumulates below the tile floor on the sealing level and is channelled from here to the drain body via the the flange. Balcony plate with plate cover on plate beds or support gravel (drainage in two levels) - for downpipe ducts/top balconies The direct stainless steel drain with compression-sealing flange is inserted in the balcony ceiling. The rotating top section with screen holes is placed flush to the floor. In addition to a stainless steel grating, a stainless steel grating for downpipe ducts is also available. This allows the downpipe connection of higher balcony areas, where the positions of the corresponding balcony drains must be coordinated. Any surface water that leaks through the floor cover accumulates below the tile cover on the sealing level and is channelled from here to the drain body via the the intermediate piece with weeping holes. 324

Balcony and patio drainage Spot drainage Spot drainage Planning references 8 Application: Balcony plates or terrace floor with moisture seal Tile flooring in the mortar bed or with plate flooring on support gravel or plate beds (drainage at one or two levels) The two-part stainless steel single drain consists of a drain body and top section, always with a compression-sealing flange. The rotating top section is placed flush to the floor. Any surface water that leaks through the floor cover accumulates below the tile floor on the top sealing level and is channelled from here to the drain body via the the flange. Plate floor on plate beds or support gravel (drainage in two levels) The two-part stainless steel single drain consists of a drain body and top section, always with a compression-sealing flange. The rotating top section including the intermediate piece with screen holes is placed flush to the floor. Any surface water that leaks through the floor cover accumulates below the tile cover on the top sealing level and is channelled from here to the drain body via the the screen holes of the intermediate piece. Balcony/terrace drainage Spot drainage Tile floor in the mortar bed (drainage on one level) or plate floor on support gravel or plate beds (drainage in one or two levels) The direct stainless steel drain with compression-sealing flange is inserted in the balcony ceiling. The top section with compression-sealing flange is aligned according to the floor structure, then the rotating stacking piece is placed flush on the floor cover. Plate floor on support gravel or plate beds (drainage in two levels) The direct stainless steel drain with compression-sealing flange is inserted in the balcony ceiling. The top section with compression-sealing flange is aligned according to the floor structure, then the rotating stacking piece with screen holes is placed flush on the floor cover. Stainless steel grating for downpipe ducts is also available in addition to a stainless steel slotted grating. This allows the downpipe connection of higher balcony areas, where the positions of the corresponding balcony drains must be coordinated. Any surface water that leaks through the floor cover accumulates below the tile cover on the sealing level and is channelled from here to the drain body via the the screen holes of the stacking section. 325

Balcony/terrace drainage 8Line drainage Line drainage Planning references Balcony and patio drainage Line drainage Basics Technical perfection up to the last detail The facades and patio-drainage channels ACO ProfiLine are suitable for use in green as well gravelled and paved areas. The door connection height in balcony and terrace areas can be easily reduced to 50 mm by these channels according to the flat roof guidelines. The system is available in an infinitely adjustable building height and a fixed building height. The height can also easily be adjusted from above in the installed condition by using a screwdriver. Uneven ground can thereby be easily adjusted. The pre-assembled channel elements have no loose parts, the channel strands can therefore be very economically assembled in the modular system. The connection between the individual elements is accomplished by a simple plug-in system. This guarantees additional accuracy when processing sensitive seals. The laterally introduced 4 mm drainage slots are routed up to the bottom edge to ensure optimal drainage. An additional gravel strip is not required. The fully enclosed channel bottom guarantees maximum stability and load distribution. Punching the delicate seal is prevented and lining the channel body on-site is much easier. The cover gratings are locked by a factory pre-assembled locking system. All system components are available in stainless steel and galvanized steel. The pre-assembled channels have a maximum length of 1,000 mm and can be easily transported and temporarily stored on the construction site without tools. The compensating elements can produce a continuous length adjustment of the channel bodies, generally without cutting on-site. The rain water can be quickly and controlled channelled to the ACO flat roof drains by the ACO Profiline channel combination and is safely and quickly drained here from the roof area. The builder is offered a higher degree of security in today's heavy rain events by the ACO Profiline channels and the ACO flat roof drains. Door connections, for example, on balconies, loggias or terraces DIN 18195 Part 5 "sealing against pressing water," states that the seal on connecting higher components of horizontal or slightly inclined surfaces must generally be moved up 150 mm above the surface of the protective layer, the coating or the cover material. The flat roof guideline shows a legally secured method. According to this directive, the door connection height may be reduced to 50 mm in exceptional cases, if a perfect water drainage is guaranteed at all times in the door area. This cannot be guaranteed by a flat roof drain alone, since the distance of roof openings to the wall connections must equal at least 30 mm according Requirements for a barrier-free construction A threshold must be partially waived for handicapped accessible buildings with respect to the wheelchair accessibility in the entrance and exit area. In accordance with DIN 18024/18025, lower door stops and thresholds must be basically avoided. As far as technically required, they may not be higher than 2 cm. But connections flush with the adjacent areas to the flat roof guidelines. ACO Profiline certainly solves this sensitive detail. The door connection can be reduced to less than 50 mm from the top cover up to the top edge of the seal can also be safely created with ACO Profiline. However, they do not comply with applicable regulations. If such versions are required, it must be agreed separately. 340

This is guaranteed by the ACO Profiline system Application range Balconies / loggias Terraces Green roofs / roof gardens Flat roofs before ascending facades Reducing the door connection height to 50 mm Specifically in the sensitive door and façade area must be guaranteed at all times that no moisture can penetrate from the outside. The connection height for building sealing of 150 mm required in DIN 18195-5 can be reduced to 50 mm by using ACO line drainage systems in the door area. Balcony/terrace drainage Line drainage 341

Balcony/terrace drainage 8Line drainage Line drainage Planning references Balcony and patio drainage Line drainage ACO Profiline - Safely drain facades and terraces The requirements for the building measures to protect against water penetration in public buildings have risen sharply. Especially drainage systems at the entrance and exterior area support the protection of buildings against water penetration. In addition, terraces, balconies and flat roofs must be permanently protected from the weather. Line drainage systems that drain the precipitation in the drain layer have been successful. The critical point in drainage is the transition from the building to the terrace, balcony or the flat roof. This specifically applies to the sensitive door and facade area, where a guarantee must be available at all times that moisture cannot penetrate from outside. The connecting height for building seals of 150 mm required in DIN 18 195 part 5 can be reduced to 50 mm by special systems such as the ACO facade and terrace channels according to the flat roof line. They prevent that water is pushed upward on these endangered areas by the wind or that it accumulates there. The development of snow drifts, slush and ice must also be taken into account when planning. Snow drifts thaw especially in front of doors due to the increased heat radiation. In addition, the discharge of condensate may not be restricted by the remaining snow or slush. The hydraulic capacity of facade channels is significantly affected by the installation situation and the cover gratings. This has been clearly demonstrated in extensive hydraulic studies. Free water drainage is the decisive factor in the area of accessible thresholds. The basis of the studies was a 1,000 mm long facade channel with a structural height of 75 mm, a width of 130 mm and a mesh grating of 30 x 10 mm. The channel bodies with the inserted mesh grating of 30 x 10 mm were checked in the first hydraulic test series. The various installation situations - elevated floor cover, drainage mats, branch channel, gravel bed - were simulated in the second hydraulic test series. The result of the study is an immediate calculation basis for the drained facade area. A channel system with a free cross-section, which is an elevated plate layer, therefore provides 2.5 l / sec x m. In comparison, only 0.2 l/sec x m are possible at the installation with a plate layer in the gravel bed. 342
