Apprenticeships at Servest Arthur McKay At Servest Arthur McKay we take on a number of apprentices across our business. Recruitment for places happens across the year, depending on the discipline. We currently offer apprenticeships in Electrical, Mechanical, and Data Cabling. Our Programme We believe that a structured apprentice program is paramount in helping Servest Arthur McKay apprentices achieve their qualifications. To ensure the success of all our apprentices, we have put together a program that provides each apprentice with the support and guidance they need to ensure they get the most out of their training and development. Due to the success of our program competition for positions is high. Each year we receive close to 200 applicants for each apprentice position. Due to the volume of applications we receive we set out a number of requirements that must be met as part of the application process, which are detailed on the following pages. Some of Our Achievements to Date The success of our apprenticeship program can be demonstrated through the number of industry recognized awards that both our Company and our employees have received in recent years. Electrical Apprenticeship An Electrical Apprenticeship is a Modern Apprenticeship where apprentices are trained to the standards set by the electrical industry in the United Kingdom. Entry Requirements & How to Apply Relate to the table on Page 15 The Work The work of an Electrician is varied and can include the following: Installing and maintaining cables, wiring conduits, fitments, meters, switchgear and other electrical equipment Using a variety of hand and power tools to measure, cut, join and fit cabling, wiring and equipment of various types Reading plans and technical drawings and working from them in large projects Installing the wiring and electrical components in complex electrical and electronic equipment Testing installations to make sure that they are effective and completely safe diagnosing and repairing faults in installations and electrical equipment Apprentice Support Although all apprentices are employed by Servest Arthur McKay directly, the apprenticeships themselves are delivered through a collaboration of three bodies. Electrical Apprenticeship Further Study After finishing an apprenticeship and completing 2 years work experience, qualified electricians are eligible to sit their ACA (Advanced Competence Assessment). Upon completion of this qualification they can be re-graded as an Approved Electrician. Further experience of the industry could also lead to a career in Site Management, Project Management, Estimating or Design. 8 8

Mechanical Apprenticeship, Heating & Ventilation A Heating and Ventilation Apprenticeship is a Modern Apprenticeship where apprentices learn how to install, repair and maintain systems such as central heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration and gas. Entry Requirements & How to Apply Relate to the table on Page 15 The Work The work of a Heating and Ventilation Engineer is varied and can include the following: Installing boilers, tanks, pipes, pumps and controls according to plans Using bending machines to shape large pipes Using flame cutting equipment to cut pipes to size Joining pipes by soldering or oxy-acetylene and metal arc-welding Testing that the system is operating properly Checking equipment for leaks, pinpoint faults and repair damaged parts Apprentice Support Although all apprentices are employed by Servest Arthur McKay directly, apprenticeships are delivered through a collaboration of three bodies. Mechanical Apprenticeship, Heating & Ventilation Further Study After completing an apprenticeship in Heating and Ventilation and gaining more site experience, engineers can undertake advance qualifications. Further experience of the industry could also lead to a career in Site Management, Project Management, Estimating or Design. 10

Mechanical Apprenticeship, Plumbing A Plumbing Apprenticeship is a Modern Apprenticeship where apprentices receive training in all aspects of commercial plumbing and heating. 10 Entry Requirements & How to Apply Relate to the table on Page 15 The Work The work of a Plumber is varied and can include the following: Reading design plans to install new piping, tanks and valves throughout a building under construction Replacement of sanitary equipment Diagnosing faults in hot and cold water pipes, central heating systems, waste disposal and sanitation systems Mending leaks, unblocking drains, repairing toilets Choosing the right kind of pipe or joint for the job Using plastics and metals such as copper, aluminum, zinc and lead Cutting, bending, welding and soldering piping into the right shape Apprentice Support Although all apprentices are employed by Servest Arthur McKay directly apprenticeships are delivered through a collaboration of three bodies. Data Cabling Apprenticeship A Data Cabling Apprenticeship is a Modern Apprenticeship where apprentices receive training in all aspects of Data Cabling.
