Game changer Sentinel-2 In orbit since June 2015 Operational satellite system provided by the ESA freely available at no charge Globally available Technical specifications ideal for agriculture and better than everything that has been in orbit so far (10m, every 5 days, superspectral) Operational availability secured for the next 25 years through financial commitment of the EC! New information can be retrieved like chlorophyll content. VISTA 2016 www.vista-geo.de No. 11

Conclusions on using ICT and Earth Observation to support food security Information and knowledge are the central commodities of the 21 st century. Access to these commodities must be free, open and easily accessible. Copernicus with the Sentinel-sensors serves as good example. Earth Observation data streams transformed into information, turn knowledge condensed in local, regional and global farm management models into value. Private sector including SMEs can play a central role here, but a clear reliable delineation of what public service are offering is required in order to allow business models (and thus creating qualified jobs also in rural areas.) We have a vision for a Global Smart Farm which needs support from many contributors and implementers. VISTA 2016 www.vista-geo.de No. 13
