Organizational Information: The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission regulates the use of nuclear energy and materials to protect health, safety, security and the environment, and to implement Canada's international commitments on the peaceful use of nuclear energy; and to disseminate objective scientific, technical and regulatory information to the public. Along with nuclear power plants, the CNSC regulates many other types of nuclear facilities and applications. These include: uranium mines and mills; facilities that process uranium and fabricate nuclear fuel; research facilities; nuclear substances, such as medical isotopes used to treat cancer; and specialized instruments, such as industrial radiography cameras and nuclear gauges. Conduct specialist assessments and provide support to other specialists for assessments and licensing. Participate in technical inspections. Draft reports and other documentation. Manage research projects related to area of specialization. Support national and international program activities.
