Dear Recruitment Counselor Applicant, Thank you so much for your interest in becoming a Recruitment Counselor for the 2013-2014 school year. As you all know, Recruitment Counselors (or Pi Chis) have a huge effect on the Potential New Members (PNM) and their recruitment experiences. We wanted to include a letter with this application to let you know how important the job of a Recruitment Counselor is before you commit yourself to this task. A Recruitment Counselor s most important role is to generate interest and retain potential new members during the formal recruitment process. Your dedication lies with the PNM, not Greek Life nor your specific chapter. You must do what is right for this woman, not for yourself. Being a Recruitment Counselor should be one of the most selfless times of your life. PNMs must feel they have a Panhellenic friend capable of guiding them into their first taste of Greek Life. Formal Recruitment should be an enjoyable and memorable experience for the PNMs, and as a Recruitment Counselor, you should do your best to ensure this. From the moment you get your group, you should be available to PNMs at all times to answer questions and provide guidance in one-on-one situations. A Recruitment Counselor must also promote positive attitudes toward all sororities, fraternities, and Greek Life in general. They should clear up rumors harmful to potential new members and Greek organizations. Being a member of a Greek organization at Elon, you should know that regardless of high GPAs and hours of community service, we sometimes do not have the best image among the Academic staff. As a Recruitment Counselor, you should make sure that Greek Life is always viewed in a positive light. Potential Recruitment Counselors must understand the commitment they are seeking to make to Recruitment and all potential new members. This is where the importance of disaffiliation is crucial. Before submitting this application, make sure you understand disaffiliation expectations and what we are truly asking of you. While disaffiliation is challenging, if utilized for what it is designed for, it will be one of the most positive experiences you have at Elon. So, what exactly does disaffiliation entail? During Tier 1, August 14 th October 17 th : You cannot Wear anything that reveals or hints at your affiliation Have any information on your Facebook that gives away your affiliation Tell anyone your affiliation

Appear in pictures with four or more members of any one organization Participate in any event with your organization that would make it public you are a member of that organization Discuss any aspect of recruitment with any affiliated member of Greek Life Tier 2, October 18 th January 1 st : all old rules apply but there are added restrictions: You cannot Be in public with more than three sisters, Tier 3, Midnight on January 2 nd to Bid Day: You cannot Have any contact with affiliated women. No talking, no phone calls, no emails, no face book, and absolutely no texting. If it is required that you work on a school assignment with an affiliated women you can work in private locations, a dorm, apartment, anywhere out of sight from PNMs. We know this may seem a little daunting, but we want to make sure everyone knows what you are signing yourself up for. Being a Recruitment Counselor can be a very fulfilling experience if you let it be. Ask any women who has ever participated in the Recruitment Counselor program and they will tell you how much they loved it, even with all of the rules and restrictions. This is a unique opportunity you can have to meet 30 new women from different organizations who all are as dedicated to helping PNMs as you are. This time can be very emotional and having these new women around you who are going through the same experience will create bonds that cannot be found anywhere else. We all have our own sisterhoods, but the Pi Chi sisterhood is something so different and so special that this experience has the ability change your life. So please, if you want to help PNMs find their place in Greek Life and change their college experience forever, be a Recruitment Counselor. Give to these women what your Recruitment Counselor gave to you. We cannot wait to read all of your applications and find the women who will be 2013-2014 s Recruitment Counselors. With lots of Panhellenic Love, Kelsey Brown, Assistant Director of Recruitment Emmy Bird, Director of Recruitment

You hopefully will take some time while away to review meeting notes and information. And when you get back you will have a much shorter period of time to learn a lot more information, so be prepared to work hard!
