Our clients trust us to deliver value beyond the bottom line, taking into account financial as well as environmental, social and sustainability considerations. What makes our services unique Experienced local and international specialists Our specialists are intimately familiar with prevailing international environmental and social standards. What s more, they speak the local language, know the key actors and are fully acquainted with national regulatory requirements, assuring compliance without delays or hidden surprises. A physical presence, home and away With offices internationally, we work alongside you at your headquarters as well as the location of your investments. Implementation, not just words on paper We do more than simply help you plan we help you make things happen. We understand the need for implementable, cost-effective and scalable environmental and social planning that takes into account the local context and the potential for rapid change. Collaborative and value-adding approach Our clients make the best sustainability advocates that s why we work as a team with your organisation to ensure a genuinely collaborative level of service and understanding. Even when market conditions change, we can help to add value by prioritising the many environmental and social issues facing your organisation. Environmental & social sustainability 2

Selection of key services Environmental and social compliance Compliance has become much more than simply meeting regulatory requirements. Increasingly, organisations need to meet internationallyrespected standards and frameworks, such as the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Performance Standards and the Equator Principles, in order to access finance, manage reputational risk and demonstrate leadership. We help our clients to manage their compliance with national regulations and international requirements, in ways both practical and proportional to your organisation s activities and potential impacts. Environmental and social due diligence What looks like a profitable financial investment can sometimes conceal unacknowledged environmental, social or governance challenges. Resolving these issues after financial close may result in additional permitting requirements, excessive delay, increased costs or even threaten the viability of your investment. We dig below the surface to ensure potential environmental and social issues linked to your investment are identified, providing a clear and cost-effective pathway to full compliance with international standards, national regulations and best practice. environmental and social compliance requirements to access international finance and funding; environmental and social staffing structures and identification of appropriate local and international partners; engagement and collaboration with communities and key stakeholders to obtain a social licence to operate, manage expectations and reconcile varying points of view; development of best practice systems, indicators, documentation and policies. investments and divestments, specialising in emerging economies; mergers and acquisitions; monitoring and evaluation of projects and programmes; appropriate levels of transparency and disclosure; development of environmental and social action plans to IFC and international standards. 3 Environmental & social sustainability

Selection of key services Auditing and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) To be truly sustainable, an organisation needs to put in place and continually improve systems for managing the impacts associated with health, safety, environment and social contexts. As per ISO 14001, EMAS and other standards, such systems should be regularly audited by third party experts. Beyond undertaking environmental audits and compliance verification, we can analyse your organisation s activities to develop an EMS tailored to current and future business activities. auditing and assessment of compliance with regulation and international standards; development and implementation of EMS and other management systems (including ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, EMAS etc.); monitoring missions to ensure compliance outside of formal reporting systems; integrated and automated information technologies for environmental and social data management. Sustainability reporting and accounting There is increasing pressure from stock exchanges, investors and governments for organisations to undertake sustainability reporting as part of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and transparency initiatives, on either a mandatory or voluntary basis. This entails producing regular sustainability reports with transparent accounting for financial as well as environmental, social and governance performance, in compliance with international standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) reporting standards. We work with our clients to develop comprehensive sustainability reports and put in place robust data collection and sustainability accounting systems, as well as providing impartial third-party assurance of sustainability reports. sustainability reporting and accounting systems; development of appropriate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and data collection; assurance and auditing of sustainability reports and management systems; sustainability strategies and policies; consultation with key stakeholders and their expectations. Environmental & social sustainability 4

Selection of key services Environmental permitting Our team has valuable experience managing the environmental permitting of multi-million dollar international projects operating across various sectors. These include mining, oil and gas, energy and construction, many within challenging contexts and in locations where competitors hesitate to go. We provide essential guidance at all project phases in undertaking Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA) and associated planning documentation in compliance with national environmental permitting regulations, key international standards such as the IFC Performance Standards, and international frameworks such as the Equator Principles. scoping, feasibility studies and options assessments, including siting and alignments of key infrastructure; design and engineering inputs to mitigate key impacts; development of ESIA and Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMP); biodiversity studies and development of offsets for impacted species, habitats and ecosystems; Resettlement Action Plans (RAP), compensation and livelihood restoration frameworks; public consultation and community engagement. Climate change, emissions trading and offsets A vast array of issues are linked to climate change: energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, product lifecycles, waste management, carbon offsetting and emissions trading, to name a few. Each is a specialism in itself, with interconnections and trade-offs between the various disciplines. What ties these issues together is their indisputable impact on the climate over the long term in the absence of appropriate management and efficiency improvements. Fortunately, the cost savings associated with improving efficiency provide a strong incentive to manage climate change impacts. We provide the expertise to identify and navigate the risks and opportunities that climate change poses to your organisation, helping clients to identify cost-effective short, medium and long-term measures while future-proofing their activities. current and future policy and regulatory requirements on climate change; GHG emissions inventories and reporting; resource / energy efficiency audits; carbon offsetting and investment in offsets. 5 Environmental & social sustainability
