Holistic service solutions during the entire lifecycle. Expert support for our customers.
The only way to professionally evaluate and optimise the performance of turnouts is to accompany them through their entire life. The cycle starts with design and moves through manufacture and installation support to maintenance and recycling. voestalpine VAE s more than 160 years in the industry provides the extensive reserve of knowhow on which we rely to provide our professional services. Our customers can rely on innovative solutions at the highest technical level which at the same time ensure efficient overall track usage. To achieve this, we have adopted an holistic approach to the turnout and its associated products (such as signalling). With the optimal interaction of design, logistics (manufacture and just in time delivery), installation monitoring (technical consulting & quality assurance) and turnout service, we guarantee our customers maximum reliability and availability of the turnout and crossing systems, together with an extended product service life. The result is innovative concepts at the highest technical level and practiceoriented functionality, holistically aimed at the greatest possible benefit to our customers.
The perfect interaction of all service components defines our professionalism The quality of a turnout prior to commissioning is of decisive significance in its service life. In order to be able to guarantee a long and fault-free life for our turnouts and track components, we offer distinct optional services right from the beginning of your product s lifecycle, starting when it leaves our factory. Installation support Professional installation support by voestalpine VAE comprises of the monitoring of transport and logistics, technical consulting, quality assurance, an installation check and all required documentation. In order to extend the service life of the turnout, we offer an optional initial turnout service for all turnouts delivered by voestalpine VAE. When this initial turnout service should happen differs depending on the type of turnout being used; for example, a curved turnout is usually serviced when the 2 million gross tonnage usage threshold is reached while for simple turnouts this period is extended to 3 million gross tons. Training / Engineering services Innovation and the high rate of development in turnout technology necessitate continual additional and more extensive training. Today, the right knowhow and professional competence are a decisive competitive edge. Modern turnout systems make special demands on planning, efficiency calculations, technology, assembly, transport, installation, inspection, maintenance and service. voestalpine VAE offers future-oriented training on technical issues associated with turnouts and we encourage active dialogue between operator and manufacturer. Additionally, we willingly offer engineering and other advice services for the entire turnout system.
Logistics / Just in time (JIT) Using the brand-name WS Logistics, voestalpine VAE offers completely pre-assembled turnouts in all geometries. This pre-assembly service includes the entire logistics function including delivery on special inclined wagons. WS logistics has a turnout transport fleet of 15 turnout transport wagons (WTW, WTM). Turnout logistics Pre-assembled turnout just in time delivery on GPS-monitored turnout transport wagons Complete logistics function including planning Loading of the turnouts at our factory Transport by freight train, block train or special train Unloading of the turnout at the construction site with a track crane Loading of the old turnouts and removal Efficient disassembly and disposal / recycling of the old turnouts at our facility
Maximum availability. Greatest reliability. Lowest maintenance costs. Intelligent service solutions. Holistic servicing Initial turnout service In order to ensure reliability and efficiency of all system components, we offer the option of a professional initial service of all turnouts following installation. Deburring of the switch device and the crossing Correction of track gauge, check-rail gauge and flange groove Bending of the switches Adjustment of the locking system Check for loose fastening elements Final geometrical check with an electronic turnout test gauge Transmission of documentation and data to the customer Turnout service Appropriate turnout service enhances the operation of your railway track with higher safety and lower maintenance costs over the entire lifecycle. Combined servicing of the track and signalling components Mechanical reconditioning of turnout components (setting of the track gauges and flange grooves) Servicing of the locking system Servicing of insulated rail joints Built-up and connection welding of all components Repair welding of crossings, including aluminothermic welding Replacement of components Final geometrical check with a electronic turnout test gauge Transmission of documentation and data to the customer
Turnout grinding An efficient service concept for standardgauge railways and in suburban transport Targeted and planned servicing is an indispensable necessity for the achievement of desired levels of track availability and reliability. Regular grinding of all rail in track, including in turnouts, is a fundamental component of a holistic service strategy. The objective of track and turnout rail machining is to keep the consequences of rail damage as low as possible for the overall system and to thus minimise operating costs. As a holistic turnout system provider, voestalpine VAE offers the network operator cost-optimised and environment-friendly rail service and repair options including rail grinding or machining; the clear objective being to economically extend the life of the turnout. Turnout grinding in three phases: Phase 1: Analysis and planning Phase 2: Rail machining to measure Phase 3: Environment-friendly cleaning Suction and flushing unit SuSE In order to minimise the negative impact on the environment, we have a special vehicle for the cleaning of turnouts and tracks following the grinding process. The innovative suction process complements the conventional rail maintenance system with a particularly environment-friendly removal of sediment and rail machining residues. Milling/Re-profiling Rail milling can represent an especially attractive alternative to grinding in an urban environment where noise is an issue. The advantages of re-profiling rails in suburban transport by milling are noise reduction, improved environmental compatibility, precision of processing and subsequent increased productivity.
