OPERATIONS FOREMAN People Move Our Port! Port Corpus Christi (PCC) features two docks capable of loading/unloading petroleum coke, coal, bayrite and other dry bulk commodities directly to/from vessels, railcars and trucks. The ship loader has a belt speed of 1500 tons per hour and the unloading gantry crane can handle 600 tons per hour. The PCC is currently seeking a motivated individual to function as Operations Foreman at the Bulk Terminal. It is the mission of Port Corpus Christi to leverage commerce to drive prosperity. OPERATIONS FOREMAN POSITION PROFILE Under the direct supervision of the Bulk Terminal Manager, this position supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in the operation of all material handling systems and associated support equipment of the Bulk Terminal. Additionally, the Operations Foreman: Schedules and directs operations activities of assigned staff and supervises, mentors and trains same. Assists Safety & Environmental Representatives in the development, implementation and enforcement of safety and environmental programs relative to terminal operations. Enforces safety rules including best practices and encourages employees to become safety conscious; stops unsafe acts immediately and authorizes assigned staff to enact Stop Work Authority if conditions become unsafe. Promotes and ensures proper use of personal protective equipment among personnel throughout the facility. Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignments. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules. Maintains time and production records for assigned staff. Analyzes and resolves work problems and assists staff in solving work issues. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate staff to achieve work goals. Oversees vessel loading and unloading operations and tracks tonnages for efficiency. Works directly with stevedores, vessel agents, and pad operators to track vessel scheduling to ensure terminal preparedness. Performs daily job briefings with employees, other foreman, and Bulk Terminal Manager. Coordinates with other department Foremen to assign and direct personnel in all areas of operations, including shift work operations. Maintains and shares knowledge of all mechanical and electrical operating specifications and working characteristics of the gantry crane and radial ship loader and their related components with assigned staff through on the job training. Oversees required maintenance necessary to preserve terminal operations, including housekeeping and preventative maintenance. Maintains knowledge of mechanical equipment encompassing programmable logic controllers for purposes of operation and maintenance. Determines malfunctions, detects potential malfunctions, and recommends and performs preventative maintenance. Coordinates railcar activity for loading/ unloading operations. Performs activities of supervised staff, including operating gantry crane, radial ship loader, and material handling equipment, as needed Promotes and enforces good housekeeping practices in areas of responsibility and throughout the facility. Adheres to PCC policy and applicable laws, ensures supervised staff does same, and holds assigned staff accountable for non-compliance Promotes safety awareness and environmental consciousness and complies with all applicable safety and environmental procedures and regulations. Promotes and takes an active part in the quality improvement process. Reviews and evaluates work of assigned staff; makes recommendations for job assignments and employment actions including promotions commendations, discipline and/or other changes of employment status. Assists in the development of staff, monitors progress and provides regular guidance. Maintains good employee relations and assists assigned staff in day-to-day work issues; initiates plans to motivate staff to achieve work goals. While performing essential functions the Operations Foreman is regularly required to stand, walk, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and sit; use hand to finger movements; lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. They will also be exposed to adverse weather conditions, occasional fumes or airborne particles, heights and risk of electrical shock;

moderate noise levels and moving mechanical parts. The Operations Foreman will be expected to work on call rotating with other foremen, work evenings, weekends and holidays as required, is considered an essential employee for pre or postdisaster preparedness, will use a lightweight highway vehicle and will work or enter into restricted areas utilizing TWIC credentials. CANDIDATE PROFILE The preferred candidate for this position should be a hard-working, safety-minded leader. Requirements for the position include: ESSENTIAL SKILLS Education & Credentials: High school diploma or equivalent Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) during course of employment. Experience & Job Knowledge: Prior work experience with mechanical and electrical operations specifications. Experience with mechanical equipment encompassing programmable logic controllers for purposes of operations and maintenance. Understanding and knowledge of dry bulk facilities within a port community preferred. Knowledge of the theories, principles and practices of management. Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of effective employee supervision, including instructing, training, planning, delegating, motivating and evaluating of work/performance required. Experience with safety and environmental rules and regulations. Hands-on management approach with technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment. Experience with personal computers, including MS Word, Windows, Excel, email systems and the internet. At least eight years related experience. TECHNICAL SKILLS Proficiency of the English language with effective oral and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish preferred Good mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity with ability to work at heights above thirty feet. Considerable judgment to safely and efficiently operate and maintain equipment. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and to speak effectively before groups of employees. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Practical problem solving skills with ability to deal with concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings and specifications. Ability to set priorities, take initiative and exercise sound independent judgment to handle multiple projects and changing priorities. Ability to read, understand, interpret, apply and enforce PCC policies, procedure, safety and environmental manuals, and operating/ maintenance instructions. Effective supervisory skills, with ability to motivate and energize staff, and to use a hands-on approach with willingness to lead by example. Ability to plan, direct, coordinate and review the work of assigned staff. Ability to guide and train staff in work procedures and techniques and provide for their professional development. Ability to operate standard office equipment and drive a lightweight highway vehicle. Must possess a valid driver s license.
