UNDERGROUND GAS STORAGE AS A KEY FACTOR OF SAFE GAS SUPPLIES TO EUROPE To ensure an uninterrupted supply of gas to European consumers during the periods of higher demand, repair operations on gas transmission network as well as in order to supply additional volumes of gas, Gazprom has adopted a strategy of development of underground gas storage (UGS) Gazprom invests billions of dollars in the construction of new (e.g. Damborice, the Czech Republic) and the expansion of the existing (e.g. Katharina, Germany) storage facilities. Construction of UGS Katharina in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany From 2006 our available gas storage capacity in Europe has increased from 1.4 to 5 billion cubic meters of active gas and the total daily output grew from 18.2 to about 70 million cubic meters Gazprom Export s storages in Europe 10
