D A T A S H E E T PROGRESS BPM SERVER PROGRESS BPM SERVER OVERVIEW The process execution and integration capabilities of Progress Savvion BusinessManager Platform are provided by the Progress Savvion BPM Server. The independently scalable components that make up Savvion BPM Server enable you to execute processes created with Progress Savvion Process Modeler and Progress Savvion BPM Studio. Your processes contain your unique business logic, rules, and policies and Savvion BPM Server turns your process improvement ideas into running applications to move the business forward. The Savvion BusinessManager Platform relies on the Savvion BPM Server to manage not only day-to-day transactions associated with running process-driven applications, but also the important ongoing change management issues critical to agility and continuous improvement. The Savvion BPM Server is comprised of six important components: H I G H LI G HTS > > With Savvion BPM Server, you can turn your process improvement ideas into running applications.

BUSINESSMANAGER SUITE BPM SERVER BRMS BUSINESS EXPERT PROCESS MODELER BUSINESSMANAGER PLATFORM BPM STUDIO BPM PORTAL ADAPTER FRAMEWORK WEB APPLICATIONS ENGINE REPOSITORY MANAGER RULES ENGINE PROCESS ASSET MANAGER BPM SERVER PROCESS ENGINE DOCUMENT MANAGEMENT PORTAL FRAMEWORK PROCESS ENGINE The Savvion Process Engine is Savvion BusinessManager s process execution and workflow engine. It not only ensures that people receive tasks relevant to their day to day work but also facilitates orchestration of system-to-system processes. Running in an independent Java application container from the other Savvion engines enables the Savvion Process Engine to scale independently to meet the most stringent enterprise architecture requirements. Savvion BusinessManager process templates, designed in either Savvion Process Modeler or configured in Savvion BPM Studio, are managed by the Savvion Process Engine as running, process-driven applications. As a process is executed, the Savvion Process Engine generates events, creating a complete audit trail of everything that happens during process execution. RULES ENGINE The Savvion Rules Engine processes events generated and managed by the Savvion Process Engine. Business rules defined using wizards embody event-condition-action paradigms, which specify the actions that should take

place if an event pattern occurs. Actions can include new events, alerts, personalized analytic report delivery, even automated corrective action such as starting escalation processes in the Savvion Process Engine. The Savvion Rules Engine, like all of the key server engines, can scale independently from the other components. This means more flexibility in designing powerful rulesbased processes. WEB APPLICATIONS ENGINE The Web Applications Engine enables the development and implementation of feature-rich, Web-enabled workflow applications. These applications can embody complex logic, custom portal/ end user screen rendering, and robust data-driven process management behaviors. The Web Applications Engine, like all of the components of the Savvion BusinessManager suite, is completely open and accessible via Web services. Transaction management issues, concurrency, and other key scalability concerns are managed natively by the web server on which the engine runs. REPOSITORY MANAGER Savvion BusinessManager relies on a robust, open repository of rich business information collected from different modules of the suite. Repository Manager processes events and populates Savvion BusinessManager database tables. Data collected by Repository Manager is ultimately accessed and presented by the Portal Framework. It uses this information to prepare management reports that summarize the business intelligence and to monitor and control processes. Repository Manager captures all data without configuration including full audit trail data presented through the Savvion BPM Portal s Forensic Auditing feature. MANAGED ADAPTER FRAMEWORK The adapter framework enables technical developers to develop and leverage wizard-driven system integration adapters for use within Savvion BusinessManager. An adapter allows Savvion BusinessManager applications

to invoke external Java classes residing on the Savvion Process Engine s application server (on both remote and local machines) to perform a task. Users can leverage common standards-based mechanisms for system API invocation for creating both synchronous and asynchronous integration adapters. A library of commonly used adapters ships as part of the Savvion BusinessManager Suite. PORTAL FRAMEWORK The Portal Framework is consists of two modules. The first module, SavvionHome, renders the end-user portal experience which enables endusers to complete tasks associated with Savvion BusinessManager process applications. In the second, Savvion BusinessManager provides facilities for managers to query, report on, and control processes and system resources. It also enables Savvion BusinessManager administrators to modify configuration parameters, manage user/group access control, and install/uninstall Savvion BusinessManager process applications. ENTERPRISE-CLASS BUSINESS PROCESS MANAGEMENT Savvion BusinessManager is a true 4-tier J2EE business process management suite. This means that you can be confident that the missioncritical, business-process driven applications you design will scale to your needs. As an industry leader, Progress is committed to helping our customers leverage their existing assets. Whether you have an existing ERP, document management, or CRM system, the Savvion BusinessManager can help you get more out of those investments. Savvion supports.net as well as other key Microsoft technologies, including Windows and Windows Server, SQL Server, Internet Explorer, Excel, Outlook, and Infopath.

SOA READY Savvion BusinessManager is designed for those pursuing serviceoriented architecture (SOA) approaches in their businesses. Savvion BusinessManager publishes and subscribes to Web services that comply with industry standards including XML Schema 1.0, SOAP 1.1 and WSDL 1.1. Savvion also supports and delivers, with Savvion BusinessManager, a complete UDDI directory service. The Web services integration support of Savvion includes robust testing facilities, including SOAP message testing. Savvion BusinessManager is best for the enterprise looking to extend its process solutions across functional boundaries as it supports W-S Security layers including username tokens, SAML, SOAP message encryption and digital signatures Savvion is.net Connected Certified. Savvion BusinessManager is fully interoperable with.net based technology solutions. BUSINESS INFORMATION MODEL Deploy and share information business people can understand without sacrificing enterprise-caliber data architecture. Savvion s business information model lets architects choose how key process information will be stored on a field by field basis. For missioncritical, sensitive information, external ODS support is available and totally reusable. For process-centric information or information that does not require in-depth backup and security, internal storage is quick, painless, and completely reusable. Regardless of storage choice, business people can browse complex data structures and reuse them in their process projects.
