DISC MICROFILTRATION SYSTEM SMT The SMT disc filter by Meccaniche Italiane Srl is a state-of-the-arthe filtering and subsequent re-use of liquids. In the case of waste water, this device for undergoes normal biological and/or physical-chemical purification and the purified water is then re-used for irrigation and/or industrial purposes. COMPACT DESIGN OF THE FILTER The filter is extremely compact and ensures efficient filtration regardless of size; moreover, the filtering sections normally fitted with flat fabrics can, on request, be fitted with special pleated fabrics to further increase the surface area of the filtering section, although a stronger backwash is needed due to the structure of the fabric. The product was designed for easy use and maintenance; in fact the filtering section can be replaced without the need to empty the filtering chamber, and by simply undoing the nuts. SETTORI IN AISI 304 The filtering sections are also fully recyclable with the exception of the filtering fabric, and we offer an in situ replacement service on request, in conformity with the latest standards on recycling and reuse. SWIVELLING BACKWASH The backwash, thanks also to the swivelling system of the arrays of nozzles, is extremely efficient, and there is a self-cleaning filter on the backwash line which means the spraying nozzles require very little cleaning. 54
SMT DISC MICROFILTRATION SYSTEM It is possible to fully tilt the backwash pump to check and clean the nozzles, and no tools are required to mount the latter as they have special bayonet fittings. The stainless steel cover on the filter is normally fitted with gas pistons so it can be opened by a single operator quickly and easily. INSTANT INSPECTION Particular attention was paid to the size of the structures making up the supporting frame, the sheet metal profiles and the actual mechanics. The components are normally made of AISI 304 press-formed and tubular semi-finished steel, but can be made of AISI 316 or other on request. QUICK REPLACEMENT OF THE SECTION The sections are designed to be very light while also stress- to facilitate resistant maintenance. The sections are fastened on the main manifold with stainless steel polygon nuts. In the manifold the connections taper concentrically towards the rotor support. PARAMETRIC THREE-DIMENSIONAL DESIGN Further in is the rotor itself, a bearing containing a web for lubrication through an aperture. On the opposite side is a greaser easy to access for routine maintenance. On request, the greasing of the bearings can be carried out by means of an automated control unit. DISC MICROFILTRATION SYSTEM GENERAL CHARACTERISTICS Microfiltration technology combined with the new polyester fabric permits filtration spans of between 10 and 150 µm and quality separation even in the presence of high hydraulic pressure or peak loads of suspended solids. The new and fast nozzle cleaning system requires little energy and water. The fluids flow from the inside towards the outside, so the suspended solids are captured in the filter and the filter container remains perfectly clean. SMT The modular nature of the disc filtering station is such that the filter units can be made extremely compact with filtering surfaces of up to 8 sq m for each sq m of occupied space. The polyester fabric offers the following benefits over loose-fibre fabric: no suspended solids pass through the fabric during the washing phase; no suspended solids accumulate in the fabric, so cleaning is more efficient; virtually no wear and simpler maintenance. QUICK POSITIONING TANK ASSEMBLY APPLICATIONS The uses of disc filters: Capturing residual suspended solids after secondary sedimentation tanks due to rising swollen mud, floating foam and/or excessive hydraulic pressure; Separation of excess mud after the submerged rollers, percolator filters and other biofilm processes, in lieu of conventional secondary sedimentation tanks; Reducing the content of phosphorous in fluids released by existing or new systems, possibly in combination with floccular-filtration; Separation of solid substances after chemical-physical treatment of industrial sewage; Pre-filtration for: biofilm nitrification processes, for UV waters to be converted into drinking water; Treatment of water for industrial use and for recycling; Increasing the performance of lagooning systems. sterilization, processes with membranes, for surface 56
