ADDRESS BY HEAD OF DELEGATION - BRUNEI DARUSSALAM 1 st ORGANISING COMMITTEE MEETING 9 TH ASEAN SKILLS COMPETITION 30 TH NOV 3 RD DEC 2011 Bismillahirahmanirahim Honourable Chairperson, Mr. Kunjung Masehat, Director of Competency Standard and Training Program Distinguished Delegates Ladies and gentlemen Assalamualaikum W.b. and Very good morning. On behalf of the Delegation of Brunei Darussalam, I would like to extend our warmest greetings to all the delegates and everyone present at the 1 st Organising Committee Meeting. We would like to convey our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Indonesian Government for the hospitality and commitment in hosting the 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition 2012 and we thank everyone present in this meeting for the contribution and effort in ensuring that the competition is well planned and organised. We will make every endeavour to support the host country Indonesia. We sincerely hope that this competition will continue to maintain our ASEAN spirit of close relationship and cooperation, and to promote the four objectives of the ASEAN Skills Competition. We hope that our country s participation in this competition will

continue to forge better cooperation and friendship amongst our delegates, experts and competitors. Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to reiterate our country s continuous support towards the ASEAN Skills Competition, in view of its importance in promoting the human resource development in Vocational and Technical Education and Training (VTET). We are confident that we will have a productive and a successful 1 st Organising Committee Meeting and looking forward to an excellent staging of the 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition here in Jakarta, Indonesia. ADDRESS BY HEAD OF DELEGATION LAO PDR 1 st ORGANISING COMMITTEE MEETING 9 TH ASEAN SKILLS COMPETITION 30 TH NOV 3 RD DEC 2011 Mr.Chairman Distinguished guests Ladies and Gentlemen, First of all, on behalf of the Lao PDR s delegation to express my sincere gratitude and congratulation to Indonesia for success as the host of the 19th ASEAN summit and related summits and the 26 th SEAGAMES last month. It is a great pleasure and honour for me and my delegation to have the opportunity to attend the 1 st Organizing Committee Meeting of 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is a significant meeting for preparation in organizing 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition 2012 in Indonesia successfully. For the Lao PDR is ready to attend in unforgettable event next year and will be for seven times for us in participation of this activity, order to implement rights, obligation to share views and experience for the technical interests to develop the empowerment of the young people s skills and also significant and good opportunity for the Lao young people to receive the contest in term of knowledge, skills and attitude in the ASEAN arena. In order to raise awareness to necessities of skill standard level for Lao young people and ensure the contribution of development and empowerment for training institutions in Lao PDR forward international standard level. For 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition in this next year, Lao PDR will try to do its best in achievement in the event.

Once again, I hope this meeting will be sharing views frankly and friendly in order to ensure the fairness, transparency and endorse official documents and nominations related the preparation for organizing the 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition 2012 fruitfully, which will be dynamic and exciting shows that celebrate the excellence within ASEAN members and showcase youth performance from across ASEAN members, which will not only show the world our brilliance in staging great events, but also the great pool of talent in our ASEAN members. Finally, I wish this meeting successful and all together go to the same direction to facilitate the 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition 2012 with a great success. Thank you.

On behalf of the Malaysian Delegates, I would like to extend our warmest greeting to everyone present in this meeting. First of all, I would like to convey my appreciation to the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration of The Republic of Indonesia for the invitation to the 1 st Organizing Committee Meeting (OCM) in Jakarta. Let me introduce Malaysian delegate representing by myself as head of delegation Dr. Ghalip bin Spahat, Mr Tengku Amin Sulaiman (on my left), Mr Abdul Halim Jahaya (on my right) and Mr. Hung Yew Kim. Furthermore, it is not too late for me to congratulate Indonesian as host country for been successfully organizing the SEA Games recently and again I would like to express our appreciation to the Indonesia Government for hosting the 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) involving series of meeting including this 1 st Organizing Committee Meeting (OCM) in Jakarta. It is a big challenge and high commitment required being a host

country. Malaysia as an ASEAN member country, with the ASEAN spirit and solidarity will make fully support the host country Indonesia. Finally, we are looking forward for the success of the 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) in city of Jakarta in November 2012. Thank you.

WELCOMING ADDRESS BY THE HEAD OF DELEGATE SINGAPORE 1 ST ORGANIZING COMMITTEE MEETING 9 TH ASEAN SKILL COMPETITION 30 Nov 4 DECEMBER 2011 The Honorable Chairperson Distinguished Delegates from the Participating Countries Ladies and Gentlemen, On behalf of the Government of Singapore, we are very pleased to be invited to participate with our ASEAN members once again in this exciting and distinguish competition. We look forward with celebrated anticipation and contentment in our involvement and contribution to the 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition meeting here in Jakarta, Indonesia for days of 30 November 2011 to the 4 December 2011. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Indonesia for being the host country and for the hospitality and administration of this meeting and subsequently activities leading to the competition. I believe this is the same appreciation all of us have for the warmth and generous support provided by Indonesia. During the 8 th ASEAN Skill Competition, it was an event filled with much anticipation and exhilaration with the whole of ASEAN countries participating in many Skill areas. This exemplify the significant of the ASEAN Skill Competition and the acknowledgement of the high demand for greater skill standards of training for the skill workers in ASEAN to meet the response to foreign investment and labor landscape, both domestically and internationally. Skill competitions provide an ideal platform for countries to promote the status and image of skilled personnel and to generate awareness in technical education amongst the general public. In recognizing the skill ability of the students through the ASEAN Skill competition, we will inevitably raise the standards of excellence in technical education.

This is Singapore s 3 rd participation into the competition and we look forward to learn from our ASEAN friends, your illustrious diversity of training and embodiment of skill standards. The experiences we have gained thus far have become many archetypes by which we have benchmarked upon in our quest for excellence in education. Last and not the least, we thank our host for the warm hospitality and excellence organization of this meeting and wishes all of us a fruitful discussion for the rest of the meetings. Thank you

WELCOMING ADDRESS BY THE HEAD OF DELEGATE THAILAND 1 ST ORGANIZING COMMITTEE MEETING 9 TH ASEAN SKILL COMPETITION 30 Nov 4 DECEMBER 2011 Chairperson, Vice Chairperson Ladies and Gentlemen, SAWASDEE KA First of all, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration of the Republic of Indonesia for organizing the First Organizing Committee Meeting of the Ninth ASEAN Skills Competition. As a member country, who has hosted two ASEAN Skills Competitions in the past, the 8 th ASC was just last year in 2010. We are well aware that the tasks of being a host are challenging, considering the recent rapid development of technologies and global competitiveness amongst ASEAN member countries. Therefore, Thailand would like tomake every effort and contribution to support the Republic of Indonesia, the host country of the 9 th ASEAN Skills Competition. Following this meeting, there will be are two more meetings before the 9 th ASC, supposedly to be held at the end of next year. Initially, we will have the Technical Committee Meeting 6 months prior to the competition. Then, there will be a Discussion Forum that acts as online meeting for experts of each skill area as a platform for exchanging information and opinion, to make sure that the competition will be a success. I am very glad to be here on behalf of Thailand Ministry of Labour. I truly hope that the 1 st Organizing Committee Meeting will be a fruitful and successful one. Thank you very much.
