Managing Assumptions

Transcription:

Good morning Ms Xxxx and class, Today I m going to discuss global warming. As we all know, this topic is causing a lot of conflict across Australia. It led to the Tax on Carbon Dioxide that many surveys show is opposed by 60 80 % of Australians. This conflict led to a range of feelings across our country. When you hear about the tax and climate do you feel confused? Or maybe bored? Or frustrated? Maybe confident? Annoyed or even angry? Guilty? Doubtful? Sure? Afraid? Uncertain? Feelings are driven by needs. What are your needs on climate? Do you want understanding? Or maybe clarity? Reassurance? Security? Confidence? Or maybe action? To meet these needs I ll talk about: Carbon Dioxide facts; dishonesty in climate science; prominent supposed experts and politicians paid by the Australian Government to promote the tax; and Al Gore s movie An Inconvenient Truth. 1

Let s start by understanding the context of global warming. Some people in the media and some politicians claim, firstly, our planet s atmosphere is warming; secondly, warming is due to increasing amounts of carbon dioxide in the air; thirdly, that increase is due to human production of carbon dioxide; fourth, warming will seriously hurt humans and our planet; and fifth, putting a tax on production of carbon dioxide will prevent harm. The government s tax is based on reports by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, known as the IPCC. Here are some facts on carbon dioxide, known as CO2. It s invisible and colourless. Nature produces 97% of earth s annual CO2 production; human activity produces only 3%. Of that 3% Australia s production is just one hundredth. The IPCC contradicts itself. Measurements used by the IPCC reveal that CO2 levels in the air are the result of temperature. Yet the IPCC and Government say CO2 drives temperature. Secondly, nature controls the level of CO2 in air. Yet the IPCC and government tell us humans do. This means it s pointless to try to control Carbon Dioxide levels. CO2 is not poisonous, plants need it to live. It s essential for life on earth. It is not a pollutant. 2

Measurements in the last 180 years show CO2 levels up to 40% higher than now. Why did the IPCC leave out 90,000 reliable measurements of CO2? After serious scandals rocked the IPCC, it asked the InterAcademy Council to do a review. The review was highly critical of the IPCC. Kevin Rudd said 4,000 IPCC scientists claimed humans caused warming. Yet IPCC figures reveal only 5 IPCC reviewers endorsed that claim. There are many huge errors in the IPCC s claims. Yet the IPCC reports are relied on by Australia s supposed experts. These so called experts include Professor Tim Flannery, Professor Will Steffen, Professor David Karoly and the government s CSIRO. They all failed to produce evidence of humans causing global warming. They re all paid by the government. Tim Flannery became famous for his book on global warming called The Weather Makers. Dr Allen's review reveals that 307 statements in his book created 577 problems including 70 factual errors, 31 contradictions, 10 mistakes and 11 failed predictions. Another person who made global warming scary, popular and fashionable is Al Gore. Who has not seen his movie called An Inconvenient Truth? (hold up Al Gore s DVD and then Science Fiction) 3

This congressional working paper from America reveals Al Gore makes 19 wrong or false statements, 17 misleading statements and many exaggerations, misleading and unsound statements. A British court ruled it s political not scientific and has many errors. My conclusions on climate: 1. Temperatures are not unusually high. They were warmer in the 1930 s and much warmer a thousand years ago. Since 1998, temperatures have fallen; 2. Carbon Dioxide does not drive temperature. Instead, temperature determines Carbon Dioxide levels; 3. Nature controls Carbon Dioxide levels. Humans do not. A tax cannot change climate; 4. Warming brings benefits to humans, animals, plants and the environment. Anyway, we can t control global climate. I conclude the tax can t affect climate. More importantly, do not assume adults know what they re talking about especially when money is involved. Do not always accept what governments say. Question everything and think for your self. 4
