Hornig 1. Product Description The 3M QS 2000E is a cold shrink, one-piece multilayer silicone rubber splice body with integrated stress control device, insulation and outer semi-conductive layer. The 3M QS 2000E silicone splice body is delivered on a removeable plastic supporting core. During the installation the ribbon core in unwound counter clockwise, allowing the splice body to shrink onto the cable joint. The applied permanent radial pressure guarantees a reliable function the entire lifetime. The outer semi-conductive layer re-establishes the cable screen. 2. The insulation of the splice body replaces the cable insulation across the entire splice. 3. The integrated stress control element provides the proper electric field distribution. 4. 3M Scotch tape 13 is applied the connector and forms the inner conductive electrode. - 1 -

2. Product Features The versatile design of the prefabricated one-piece splice bodies allows installation on a wide range of cable sizes and types. Designed to fit all standard mechanical and compression connectors. Cold Shrink technology ensures quick, easy and tool-free installation. Excellent material properties allow the installation of the cold shrink splice body at temperatures ranging from -20 C to + 50 C. Meets and exceeds european CENELEC standard HD 629 3. 5. Electric Field Control The Quick Splice 2000E cold shrink splice body contains a refractive electrical stress control. The refraction of electrical flux lines at the boundary between insulation and stress control layer ensures an evenly distribution of the electrical field the entire splice area. Figure 2 shows an actual computerized plot of the equipotential lines the splice area of a 150 mm 2 inline joint based on U 0 =12kV. Permanent Set When the splice body is radially stretched onto the removeable core, the result is referred to as permanent set of the silicone elastomer. 7. Relaxation Characteristic Based on the used silicone elastomer material an excellent relaxation characteristic is achieved the specified installation temperatures. 9. Product Idenfication The 3M QS 2000E splice bodies are marked with supplier name, voltage class, body size and manufacturing codes for product traceability. QS 2000E 24 kv I DN16 06-16 A-1 Year of Production, Lot 10. Quality Assurance All raw-materials of the QS 2000E splice body are subject of a continous incoming Inspection. The printed product identification on the splice body allow a consistently traceability of all used in-process materials as well as process- and quality data. The 3M manufacturing site in Marcallo, Italy, is certified according to ISO 9001-2000 and ISO 14001. 11. Waste Disposal The supporting core is made from recyclable polypropylene material. 12. Storage Conditions The shelf life is specified with 3 years. Temperature: -40 C up to +50 C (short term peaks at 60 C max.) 13. Legal Requirements The 3M QS 2000E splice body does not require a Material Safety Data Sheet. It is not subject of the directive on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS) and the directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), however fulfils their requirements. 14.
