At the College of Agriculture and Bioresources you will have many opportunities to enhance your academic study with hands-on experiences, extracurricular activities, volunteer work and on-the-job training. INTERESTED IN AGRICULTURE AND BIORESOURCES? Today s agriculture cares for the environment to renewably produce bioproducts like fuel, fibre and pharmaceuticals, in addition to food. Its concerns are universal and individual, large and small, rooted in tradition and driven by innovation. It happens everywhere in rural fields, urban landscapes, laboratories, wetlands and boardrooms. DEGREES Bachelor of Science in Agriculture This applied life-science degree will provide you with a broad knowledge of agriculture, agri-food systems, and the role of agriculture in both local and global contexts. You will also learn how to apply this knowledge to real-world situations and, as a graduate, will be prepared to address major agricultural issues and challenges in one of many diverse fields of employment. Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness This degree combines science, economics and business to explore management, marketing, finance and sales, as well as the legal and institutional environment that frames the industry. Students will be prepared for careers as agricultural professionals such as entrepreneurs, business consultants, lenders and product support specialists. Bachelor of Science in Animal Bioscience This program provides students with a broad background in domestic animal biology. Students are trained to work in fields outside of traditional animal agriculture, including biomedical sciences, companion, equine and research animal care, animal health and environmental sciences. Bachelor of Science in Renewable Resource Management This program uses applied science to cover topics such as the management of land, biotic and water resources. Through field-work and group projects, students gain technical skills that will ensure high employability. Inquiry-based learning and ample opportunity for practical experience make this program unique.

DIPLOMAS Graduates of the two-year diploma programs in agribusiness and agronomy are eligible for professional designation as Agricultural Technologists with the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists. As the diplomas are degree level courses, degrees can be completed with only two additional years of study. Agribusiness Focus on the establishment and management of agricultural-based ventures. Delve into science, economics and business. Walk away with the essential skills for all aspects of the agri-food sector: farm inputs and outputs, transportation and processing, marketing and sales. Aboriginal Resource Management Upon completion of the Kanawayihetaytan Askiy certificate you may choose to further develop your knowledge of resource management. This program teaches students the skills required for future employment as land managers as well as the scientific and traditional knowledge required for research and decisionmaking. Agronomy Explore plant science, soil science, and agricultural and bioresource engineering. Possess practical skills in soil and crop diagnostics, equipment performance optimization and a broad knowledge of the agriculture sector. Use this diploma as a stepping stone to become a Certified Crop Advisor. Aboriginal Lands Governance After completing the Kanawayihetaytan Askiy certificate you will have the opportunity to gain a more in-depth understanding of land governance. This program provides a background in governance, management, administration and political science as they relate to Aboriginal communities. VETERINARY MEDICINE REQUIREMENTS If you are planning to apply to the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in the future, you can complete the two years of pre-veterinary requirements as part of a degree program in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources. Be sure to speak to your academic advisor to make sure you select the right classes. CERTIFICATES Kanawayihetaytan Askiy Certificate Let us take care of the land Kanawayihetaytan Askiy is a uniquely designed certificate program that is focused on providing a broad range of topic areas specific to the management of lands and resources on federal reserve lands. This program examines basic environmental, legal and economic aspects of land and resource management in Aboriginal communities. Certificate in Prairie Horticulture Designed for both professionals working in the horticulture industry and gardening enthusiasts, the Prairie Horticulture Certificate is a part-time, distance education program that provides all the essential tools to start your own business, advance your civic career, become a landscape horticulturalist or upgrade your teaching certification. Admission Requirements In general, to gain admission to the College of Agriculture and Bioresources, you will need the following: Graduation from high school or secondary-level standing A minimum five-subject admission average of 70% for high school students or 60% for post-secondary transfer students for: Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness Bachelor of Science in Agriculture Bachelor of Science in Renewable Resource Management Agribusiness Agronomy An early ad mission average of 85% or expected target average* of 80%, based on a competitive ranking, for: Bachelor of Science in Animal Bioscience The following required subjects**: DEGREE/DIPLOMA Bachelor of Science in Agriculture; Bachelor of Science in Animal Bioscience; Bachelor of Science in Renewable Resource Management; Agronomy Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness; Diploma in Agribusiness English language proficiency REQUIREMENT Mathematics Biology Chemistry Mathematics Biology OR Chemistry OR Physics *Admission is based on a competitive ranking; expected target average provided for reference only. **Applicants may be admitted with one subject deficiency that must be cleared before the second year of study. Conditional admission If you are in progress of completing the requirements for admission, you can still apply and will be considered for conditional admission if you submit your most recent report card or transcript, as well as an official timetable or class schedule, to show the above requirements will be met. Transfer agreements Graduates of two-year diploma programs from Lakeland College, Lethbridge Community College, Medicine Hat College or Saskatchewan Polytechnic may be eligible for block transfer credit to specific programs in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources. Scholarships In addition to the scholarship opportunities available to all usask students, College of Agriculture and Bioresources students are eligible for a number of college-specific entrance scholarships and bursaries. Six $10,000 high school student scholarships and one transfer student scholarship valued up to $7,500 ($2,500/year for up to three years) are available each year to students entering the College of Agriculture and Bioresources.
