Content Scope and Objectives Added Value Benefits

Scope and Objectives Establishment of a Natural Gas supply and distribution system in Cyprus by taking as a focal point the floating LNG Facility (FSRU). Optimization of the upstream, midstream and downstream NG facilities through: The definition of the best available solution for NG supply, storage, trade and distribution in Cyprus; The exploration of the possible complementary schemes in NG supply, storage, trade and distribution; The possible development of a secondary LNG market (INTRAMED) utilizing small-scale LNG; The investigation of the possible development of a complementary CNG waterborne supply chain; The exploration of the possible consumption and distribution of NG by road transport, industrial and commercial users and the maritime sector; The analysis of legal and regulatory framework for the use of NG by road transport, industrial and commercial users and the maritime sector; The development of dedicated implementation plans for the introduction of NG in the sectors of energy and transport.

Consortium 16 Partners 2 CY Ministries 7 CY Partners 6 GR Partners 1 UK Partner Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works Duration: 01/04/2017 31/03/2020 Total Budget: EUR 7,470,000 CEF Co-Funding Rate: 60%

Major Objectives Upstream and Midstream Market Roll-out Optimization Technical and Operational Design for LNG Storage Facility & Natural Gas System NG in Road Transportation: Design, Legislation, Implementation Plan NG for Industrial & Commercial Use: Strategy, Legislation, Implementation Plan

Major Objectives NG in the Maritime: Strategy, Legislation, Implementation Plan Financing NG Implementation Public Awareness - Highlighting the Benefits

CYnergy Added Value CYnergy Extends the impact of these actions. The LNG facility in Vassiliko could be employed in the bunkering process of LNG fueled vessels (an objective studied as part of the actions). Covers the complete core and comprehensive TEN-T network (roads and maritime ports) of Cyprus Added value compared to the previous actions is that it provides a holistic approach towards the use of NG by the sectors of energy and transport. Examines the use of both LNG and CNG, not solely LNG

Benefits Economic Gains Geopolitical impact Establishment of a comprehensive Natural Gas (NG) system for the Republic of Cyprus Environmental Benefits Technological innovations Cyprus will become an energy hub of the south-east Mediterranean Sea

Benefits Economic Gains Business opportunities Synergies will occur in the energy and transport sectors A sustainable energy and transport system in Cyprus Technical and commercial activities to define the main patterns for LNG supply Development of a supply chain for the introduction of LNG and CNG Optimization of the upstream and downstream NG supply chain Control of the NG prices Reduction of external costs for Cyprus Increase competitiveness

Benefits Environmental impact Transition to the clean fuel era Introduction of LNG and CNG as alternative fuels in the energy and transport sectors Achieve low greenhouse emissions, low-carbon transport, and environmental protection Compliance with the European regulations and international policies for reduction of emissions Decrease reliance on traditional fuel oil sources

Benefits Technological innovations Higher quality standards for NG exploitation and transport services will lead to: Development of a sustainable energy system High quality LNG infrastructure An optimum LNG vessel concept will be developed for the area conditions and envisaged trades

Benefits Geopolitical impact Synergies in LNG Supply Cross-border collaboration between the two Member States of Greece and Cyprus in the primary and secondary NG markets Removal of bottlenecks and the bridging of missing links between Cyprus and the rest of South Europe Remove island isolation in terms of energy and transport

Establishing the respective infrastructure is a cost and time intensive process It consists of newly developed technology products NG is a financially efficient and environmentally friendly fuel in a wide range of applications of the transport and energy sector The same gas is suitable and will finally be distributed to cover the demand needs of various applications (energy: commercial, industry, etc. and transport: inland or marine) Solves the chicken-and-egg problem in transport by seeking synergies with energy Solves the environmental problem in energy by seeking synergies with transport Solves a socio-economic problem by creating a virtuous cycle of transport and energy Summary
