Gujarat By the end of first week of September, 2005 crops are in moderately satisfactory to satisfactory condition. In some areas crops were affected due to flood. So far Gujarat region received excess and Saurashtra and Kutch region received normal rain in the monsoon season. Kharif rice is at active tillering / vegetative stage. Kharif cotton is at vegetative / square formation stage. Kharif bajra and Kharif maize are at flowering / grain formation, Kharif groundnut is at flowering / pegging, and Sugarcane are at vegetative / cane development stage. Kharif rice The crop is at active tillering / vegetative stage. In some areas crops affected by flood are now recovering. At tillering stage give supplementary dose of Nitrogen @ 32 kg / ha for early verities, 40 kg / ha for medium and 48 kg / ha for late ripening varieties. Perform application on a non-rainy day in South Gujarat region and Dadra Nagar Haveli as moderate to rather heavy rain / thunder showers are likely to occur at a few places over these areas. There is chance of attack of Stem borrer, Leaf folder, Green leaf hopper, Brown plant hopper, Blast, Leaf spot, Bacterial leaf blight, Brown spot, Sheath blight during this month. Keep close watch for these insects and diseases. Apply carbofuran 3% @ 25kg / ha, or cartap hydrochloride 4% @ 20kg / ha for control of stem borer. To control the sucking pests spray monocrotophos @ 12ml or DDVP @ 5ml or trizophos @ 10 ml in 10 liter of water. Perform application on a non-rainy day in South Gujarat region and Dadra Nagar Haveli as moderate to rather heavy rain / thunder showers are likely to occur at a few places over these areas. Undertake intercultural operation to keep the field weed free. Maintain 4 5 cm water in the timely transplanted rice field as these crops are at tillering stage.

Kharif Cotton Kharif Bajra The crop is at vegetative (local) / square formation (hybrid) stage. In some areas crops affected by flood are now recovering. Undertake intercultural operation to keep the field weed free. Apply remaining dose of nitrogen to hybrid cotton. There is chance of attack of Spodopterea, Spotted boll worm, Pink boll worm, Leaf curl virus and Angular leaf spot during this month. There are chances of occurrences of sucking pests (aphids, jassids, thrips) on the crop. To control sucking pests like Aphids, Jassides, thrips and Heliothis release of Chrysoperia eggs or first in star larvae @ 10000 / ha twice at the interval of 15 days. For monitoring and management of the boll warms and Heliothis hang pheromone traps. Change the lures at an interval of 15 days. Destoy trapped moths every day. For control of boll warms release parasite Tricogamma @ 1.5 lakhs / ha 5-6 times as per requirement depending upon infestation found in the fields. For control of white fly spray nim oil @ 4 litre / ha as per requirement. For control of top shoot borer spray endosulphan 35% EC @ 2litre / ha or quinaphos 25% EC @ 2litre / ha. Perform application of chemicals on a non-rainy day in South Gujarat region and Dadra Nagar Haveli as moderate to rather heavy rain / thunder showers are likely to occur at a few places over these areas. As dry spells continues for last three weeks in most of the districts of the state, apply irrigation to bring the soil to its field capacity. Perform application of irrigation in South Gujarat region and Dadra Nagar Haveli depending on rainfall situation as moderate to rather heavy rain / thunder showers are likely to occur at a few places over these areas. The crop is at flowering / grain formation stage in Gujarat State. In some areas crops affected by flood are now recovering. Undertake intercultural operation to keep the field weed free. Keep close watch for these insects and diseases and apply recommended plant protection measures if required. If crop appears yellowish, make a mixture of 100 gm Hirakasi (Ferous sulphate) + 10 gm lemon arck (citric acid) dissolved in 10 litres of water and make a solution in 500 litres of water and spray over the crop of 1 ha area.
