Age of concrete: Typically at least 3-6 weeks dependent on the mix design, curing and environmental conditions. Structural Steel and Stainless Steel: Clean, free from oil, grease, rust and mill scale. Polyester, Epoxy, Ceramics and Glass: Clean, free from oil and grease. 3 3/8
Substrate Preparation Concrete, Natural Stone, Cement Mortar and Render: These substrates must be mechanically prepared e.g. by blastcleaning, to be free from any cement laitance, damaged concrete, old surface treatments or coatings and then any loose or friable particles must be removed, in order to achieve a contaminant free, open textured surface. Structural Steel: Blastcleaning or equivalent mechanical means followed by thorough vacuuming for dust removal. Avoid dew point conditions during application. Stainless Steel: Light grinding followed by thorough vacuuming for dust removal. Avoid dew point conditions during application. Polyester, epoxy, ceramics, glass: Light abrasive roughening with fine sand-paper, followed by thorough vacuuming for dust removal. Do not apply to siliconised, or silicone oil treated substrates (act as a de-bonding agent). Avoid dew point conditions during application. Application Conditions / Limitations Substrate Temperature Ambient Temperature Substrate Moisture Content Relative Air Humidity Dew Point Sikadur -Combiflex CF Adhesive and Sikadur -31 CF Adhesive: Type Slow: from +25 C to +45 C Type Rapid: from +5 C to +15 C Type Normal: from +10 C to +30 C Sikadur -Combiflex CF Adhesive and Sikadur -31 CF Adhesive: Type Slow: from +25 C to +45 C Type Rapid: from +5 C to +15 C Type Normal: from +10 C to +30 C Cementitious substrates: Dry or mat-damp with no standing water. When applied to mat-damp concrete, brush the adhesive well into substrate. 85% max. (at +25 C) Avoid condensation on the substrates due to dew point conditions. The substrate temperature must be at least 3 Kelvin above the dew point. 4 4/8
Application Instructions Mixing Sikadur -Combiflex CF Adhesive and Sikadur -31 CF Adhesive Part A : B = 2 : 1 parts by weight or volum Pre-batched units: Mix parts A+B together for at least 3 minutes with a mixing spindle attached to a slow speed electric drill (max. 300 rpm), until the material becomes smooth in consistency and a uniform grey colour. Avoid aeration while mixing. Then pour the whole mix into a clean container and stir again for approx. 1 more minute at low speed to keep air entrapment at a minimum. Mix only that quantity which can be used within its pot-life. Bulk packaging, not pre-batched: First stir each part (A and B) thoroughly individually. Then add the parts (A + B) together in the correct proportions into a suitable mixing container and continue to mix correctly using an electric low speed mixer as outlined above for the pre-batched units. 5 5/8
Application Method / Tools Application of the Tape: Where necessary, clean the surface of the Sikaplan WT Tape 200 with a clean dry or slightly damp cloth. Use water and no solvent for this cleaning. Check the integrity of the Sikaplan WT Tape 200 to ensure that there is no damage from storage or transport (e.g. heavy scratches). Remove any damaged sections if necessary. Masking tape can be used on both outer sides of the bonding area before applying the adhesive, to ensure a neat detail. Apply the mixed Sikadur adhesive on the prepared substrate, using a suitable brush, trowel or spatula. If the concrete substrate is damp, force the adhesive firmly into the substrate. The layer thickness of adhesive should be 2 mm and minimum 220 mm wide. Apply the Sikaplan WT Tape 200 within the pot-life (useable or open time) of the adhesive. Press the tape firmly, without trapping air, into the adhesive using a suitable roller or trowel. The adhesive should be squeezed out on both sides of the tape. For vertical or overhead application, the Sikaplan WT Tape 200 must be supported until the adhesive has hardened, in order to prevent it peeling away from the adhesive and to ensure a good bond. Let the first layer of the Sikadur -Combiflex CF Adhesive or Sikadur -31 CF Adhesive stiffen and begin to harden before the top layer is applied. Apply the top layer of adhesive at a thickness of ~ 2 mm along the edge of the tape for at least 4 cm, producing a covering layer which tapers outwards to almost zero. The adhesive top layer may be smoothed with a brush using a dilute detergent. Allow the adhesive to start hardening first. Note: Do not use detergent if any additional coating is to be applied. 6 6/8
Connection Joints in the Sikaplan WT Tape 200: Tape ends are connected by hot air thermal welding. The welding area must be prepared by slight roughening of the bond area surfaces with Scotch-brite pads or fine sandpaper. Roughen the tapes only in the welding area. Overlaps have to be min. 40-50 mm. Welding parameters, such as speed and temperature must be established with trials on site, prior to any welding works. Basic settings: 360-420 C Hand welding in the overlap area is carried out in three steps. 1. Spot weld the overlap 2. Pre-welding: weld the rear overlap area so that a 20 mm flap (using a 20 mm nozzle) remains for the final welding 3. Final welding: weld the remaining flap. Guide the roller at a distance of 20 mm parallel to the air outlet of the welding nozzle. Roll the pressure roller fully across the seam. Connection of Sikaplan WT membranes to Sikaplan WT Tape 200: The Sikaplan WT Tape 200 and Sikaplan WT membrane must be clean and dry, ready for hot- air welding. The Sikaplan WT membrane can be welded to the Sikaplan WT Tape 200 at the earliest, 24hrs after of the application of the Sikaplan WT Tape 200 system. To ensure the optimum seam quality, seam preparation is always required before hotair welding. The welding area of the Sikaplan WT Tape 200 must be prepared by roughening the surface with Scotch-brite pads or fine sand-paper. Use Sarnafil T Prep (yellow) only for the seam preparation and cleaning of Sikaplan WT membranes, as described in the Sikaplan WT FPO Sheet Waterproofing Membranes Application Manual. Welding parameters, such as speed and temperature must be established through trials on site, prior to the commencement of any welding works. Please also refer to the Sikaplan WT FPO Sheet Waterproofing Membranes Application Manual Cleaning of Tools Clean all tools and application equipment with Sika Colma-Cleaner immediately after use. Hardened / cured material (adhesive) can only be removed mechanically. 7 7/8
