Carbon Cycle Poster Project Your assignment is to create a colorful poster that clearly illustrates as many components of the cycle as possible. Your illustration must be an original, and you cannot use images web to influence your drawing! Your illustration should include the following: Label and illustrate 2 long-term reservoirs/sinks (where is stored for a very long time.) Label and illustrate 2 short-term reservoirs/sinks (where is stored for a short amount of time.) Thoroughly illustrate and label 3 ways in which is stored. This can be part of your short- and long-term reservoirs/sinks, if done properly. Thoroughly illustrate and label 3 ways NATURAL means. Thoroughly illustrate and label 3 ways HUMAN activities. Use ARROWS to properly identify the flow of. Identify where is being added to AND taken away atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere/lithosphere. The poster must include the following chemical reactions: 1. Photosynthesis 2. Respiration 3. Hydro (Fossil Fuel) Combustion 4. Carbonic Acid Formation 5. Carbonate Rock Formation The poster must be neat and colored. Page 1 of 6

Carbon Cycle Poster Project Outline 1. What is the chemical equation for ic acid? + = 2. Example of ic acid formation in the environment: 3. What is the chemical equation for hydro combustion? + = + 4. Example of hydro combustion in the environment: 5. What is the chemical equation for photosynthesis? + = + 6. Example of photosynthesis in the environment: 7. What is the chemical equation for ate rock formation? + = 8. Example of ate rock forming in the environment: 9. Identify 2 ways in which the is stored for a very long time: 1. 2. 10. Identify 2 ways in which the is stored for a short amount of time: 1. 2. 11. Identify 3 ways in which is stored. (This may be combined with the short and/or long-term reservoirs/sinks) 1) 2) 3) Page 2 of 6

Carbon Cycle Poster Analysis Questions 1. Explain how and why the cycle is a good example of an "Earth System". Use examples from your poster in your explanation. (System means an assemblage or combination of parts forming a complex or unitary whole: a mountain system; a railroad system. (dictionary.com)) Put simply - A system is a group of interacting parts that act as a whole. Page 5 of 6

Carbon Cycle Poster Rubric Carbon reservoirs/sinks 4 Exceeds the Standard (20 pts each) labels 2 short-term sinks AND 2 longterm sinks. 3 Meets the Standard (18 pts each) labels 2 shortterm sinks OR 2 longterm sinks. 2 Partially Meets the Standard (15 pts each) labels 1 shortterm sinks AND 1 long-term sinks. 1 Does not Meet the Standard (14 pts each) labels 1 shortterm sinks OR 1 longterm sinks. 0 (0 pts each) Carbon is removed directly from the atmosphere labels 3 ways is stored.
