Contracting Fund for Industrial and Commercial Applications German-African Energy Forum Hamburg 26.4.2017, Tobias Schwind

Topics 1. Introduction Industrial Solar 2. Industrial Energy Market & Challenges 3. Study Contracting Fund 4. Conclusion and Requests

1. Introduction Industrial Solar History Industrial Solar is a leading solution provider for energy projects with references around the world. It was founded in 2008 in the environment of the renown Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) to realize solar thermal projects based on its innovative Fresnel collector. Today Today Industrial Solar is a world leader in Fresnel projects for industrial energy supply and delivers comprehensive and customized energy solutions based on different technologies. The company has implemented projects in various countries, including South Africa, Jordan, Qatar, UAE, Germany, Spain, Italy. Mission Based on a comprehensive analysis we identify, design and implement the most economic renewable energy technology onsite

2. Industrial-Commercial Energy Market There is more energy consumption of heat in the industrial sector than there is electricity consumed worldwide. Despite available solutions the share of RE and EE in commercial and industrial sectors is negligible Although industry and commerce are interested to use renewable energies and financial institutions would like to finance projects often economically viable projects are not realized Big market potential but small market volume

2. Challenges for Stakeholder Industrial Customers Lack of capital for investment in RE / Energy Efficiency Investments restricted to core business Management with short-term targets / 2-4y ROI expectation Lack of expertise on renewable energy Solution & Technology Providers Very few financing programs available Big effort to get projects funded Financing Institutions Individual projects have too small financing volumes Lack of technical expertise for risk assessment High risk premium for single projects All stakeholders are committed but face different challenges

3. RE & EE Contracting Fund Study Industrial Solar is currently conducting a study where the preliminary work considers macro and micro aspects. While the macro level is focusing on countries the micro level is looking for specific projects. Stakeholders like industrial and commercial companies, local partners for installation and O&M, as well as internationally active project developers, Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and investors are invited to propose any EE or RE project in emerging countries. Financed by Supported by

Basic FUND Structure EE & RE FUND financing ESCOs Advantages No CAPEX for customer No technology risk for customer ESCO financing projects Taker-Over option for customer Experienced EPC & O&M partner Appropriate and project related DD CUSTOMER signs PPA / loan Risk mitigation over several projects and countries Attractive returns for investors Pooling solves small project volume EPC & O&M joint selection Efficient financing opportunity for developers

3. Project Pipeline Overview 79 Project proposals 255 m Investment Potential 150 MWel 77 MWth 28 Partner participated 20 Countries Technologies PV & ST Hydro & ORC Biomass AFRICA 22 Project proposals 16 PV projects 3-6 years payback 1 Biogas project 3 years payback 5 Hydro projects 4-8 years payback 100 m Investment potential

4. Conclusion and Next Steps Conclusion: Huge impactful contracting potential Attractive returns Know-How & technology transfer Employment Contribution to safer and cleaner onsite energy Next steps: Finalize study and mobilizing fund investors Developers, EPCs, ESCOs and Investors, Banks, NGOs, GOs are invited to join
