FIRST AID MEASURES General Advice Eye Contact Skin Contact Inhalation Ingestion Call 800.229.6036 or emergency medical service. Remove and isolate contaminated clothing and shoes. In case of contact with eyes, remove contacts if needed, immediately flush eyes with running water for at least 20 minutes. Get medical attention immediately. Avoid spreading material on unaffected skin. Remove contaminated clothing. Wash off immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. If Irritation or burning occurs, seek Medical Attention Immediately! Move injured party to fresh air. Apply artificial respiration if injured party is not breathing. Administer oxygen if breathing is difficult. Get Medical Attention Immediately! Do not induce vomiting. Rinse mouth. Drink large amounts of water. If vomiting occurs, give additional amounts of water once stopped. Seek Medical Attention. 5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES Flammable Properties Flash Point Not considered a fire hazard. Non-combustible, substance itself does not burn but may decompose upon heating to produce oxygen, corrosive and/or toxic fumes. Containers may rupture due to gas build-up when heated. Material will react with water, certain metals to produce hydrogen gas. Not Flammable. Suitable Extinguishing Media Use water or suitable agent for fires. Do not use solid water streams. Caustic reacts with water, generates heat and can splatter onto personnel. Care should be exercised when water is used to dilute caustic. Will react with water and generate heat and fumes. Use water spray to cool fire-exposed containers, dilute liquid and control vapors. Hazardous Combustion Products Explosion Data Sensitivity to mechanical impact Sensitivity to static discharge Oxygen, Hydrogen Not sensitive Not sensitive Protective Equipment and Precautions for Firefighters In the event of a fire wear full protective clothing and NIOSH-approved selfcontained breathing apparatus with full face piece operated in the pressure demand or other positive pressure mode. Wear full protective clothing. National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Ratings: This information is intended solely for the use of individuals trained in the NFPA system. 6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Methods for Containment Always wear Personal Protective Equipment. Use sand, or pigs to dike area. Keep out of sewer Methods for Cleaning Up Carefully neutralize with dilute acids or water. Put into approved disposal container. Other Information Absorb neutralized caustic residue on clay, vermiculite or other inert substance and package in a suitable container for disposal. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling Storage Always wear recommended Personal Protective Equipment. Do not breathe vapor or mist. Use only with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing. Do not add water to product. Care should be taken when adding to water to prevent splattering and heat buildup. Store only in the original container. Store in cool, well-ventilated area. Do not store with aluminum or magnesium. Do not mix with acids or organic materials. 8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Guidelines Engineering Measures This product does contain a hazardous material with occupational exposure limits established by the region specific regulatory bodies. Showers quick-drench Eyewash stations Ventilation systems sufficient to reduce vapor and mists below permissible TLV levels. Personal Protective Equipment Eye/Face Protection Tightly fitting safety goggles. Face-shield. Skin and Body Protection Wear Chemical Resistant Gloves. Respiratory Protection If exposure limits are exceeded or irritation is experienced, NIOSH/MSHA approved respiratory protection should be worn. Positive-pressure supplied air respirators may be required for high airborne contaminant concentrations. Respiratory protection must be provided in accordance with current local regulations Hygiene Measures When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Regular cleaning of equipment, work area and clothing.
