This posting will be used to fill positions in both divisions. These are temporary positions for duration of up to six months for the 2015 road construction season; candidates must be available to work until the end of the season (April through October). Positions may require occasional heavy lifting (up to 70 pounds). Work location is Hennepin County Public Works in Medina. The typical work shift will vary and primarily include flagging traffic, eight to ten hours per day Monday through Friday up to 40 hours per week. Some positions provide opportunities for overtime. The primary duties and responsibilities for the Road and Bridge Division include: Flagging traffic.
Shoveling and raking. Asphalt paving. Pothole patching and crack sealing. Cleaning ditches and landscaping. Tree trimming. Repairing guardrails. Installing signs and traffic control devices. Centerline and pavement message painting. Performing other related road construction laborer tasks. The primary duties and responsibilities for the Traffic Division include: Install signs and traffic control devices. Drive pick-up truck behind the road striping crew. Paint roadway messages. Operate and program electronic message boards; deliver and set up message boards around the county. Repair guardrails and signs. Flag traffic. Perform other traffic maintenance related laborer tasks. Best Qualified Candidates will have: Availability and willingness to work until the end of the season (April through October). Availability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions. A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit. Experience working with traffic control and/or traffic control devices is preferred for positions in the Traffic Division. Ability to: o o Follow verbal and written directions in English. Lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds.
o o Stand for long periods of time; bend, stoop and work on uneven terrain. Work outdoors in all weather conditions. The full salary range for this job class is $14.01-$16.53 hourly; new hires in 2015 will be paid $15.76 per hour.
