Implementation responsibilities This section lists tasks required to implement a system and identifies the party responsible for completing each task 1. The library contacts 3M Technical Service (1-800-328-0067 ) (website: http://www.3m.com/library) or the 3M sales representative to ensure that it has the most recent version of this document. 2. The library and the 3M sales representative complete a Site Checklist and submit it to 3M. 3. The sales representative provides a System Layout Plan to the library. 4. The library prepares the site for the system, which includes addressing the following: Installing electrical service according to the requirements listed in Electrical requirements on page 11. Ensuring compliance with the environmental requirements listed in Environmental requirements on page 12. Installing a network connection. See Network requirements on page 12. Preparing a wall for system installation as described in Wall construction: Models 2820 and 2822 on page 16. Providing sufficient space for the system. Wall construction: Models 2820 and 2822 This section provides wall construction requirements for 3M Intelligent Return Plus models. Before beginning new construction or changing an existing structure, contact 3M Library Systems Technical Service at 1-800-328-0067 (website: http://www.3m.com/library) or your sales representative to: Confirm that you have the most recent version of this document. Verify that the proposed system can be installed in the planned space. Wall opening dimensions and materials The 2820/2822 system requires a wall opening 28 in. wide 27.5 in. high [711 mm wide 699 mm high]. The surround adds a 3 in. (76 mm) border around the opening. The system can be installed in walls with depths that range from 4 in. to 18 in. (102 mm to 457 mm). The wall opening requires framing material that will readily accept the surround anchoring screws. This material cannot be concrete, brick, or rock of any kind. 3M recommends 2 x 6 inch treated wood framing. 3M requires that the bottom of the wall opening be 33 in. (838 mm) from the floor on the staff side. If the staff and patron side surfaces are at the same elevation, this will place the shelf at a height of 36 in. (914 mm), which is an ADA recommendation. If the elevation differs, contact your 3M sales representative or 3M technical support to discuss options. Note: The system requires an opening that complies exactly with the dimensions listed in the figure. If you plan to finish the opening, the rough opening must be large enough to accommodate the finished materials and still maintain these dimensions. 31 in. [787 mm] 2 x 6 in. treated wood frame recommended 27.5 in. [699 mm] 33 in. [838 mm] from opening to staff side floor 30.5 in. [775 mm] 28 in. Side elevation 1524 mm 60in [914 mm] 36 in [838 mm] 33 in [1219 mm] 48 in 2820_2822_V2_side elevation Note: Outdoor surface (patron side) is the same elevation as interior (staff side). Wall thickness and weight bearing capacity The system can be installed in walls that are between 4 in. to 18. in [102 to 457 mm] thick. The wall should be strong enough to bear the weight of the 3M Intelligent Return, which means it should be able to handle the additional 225 lb. [102 kg] when the system is placed on it. 78-8129-4937-4B 3M, 2015. All rights reserved. 17

Minimum distance to walls 3M recommends the following: A minimum of 18 in. [457 mm] between the induction unit and the wall or other obstruction. When this isn't possible, contact 3M Technical Service. Sufficient space between sorters and the wall or other obstructions to allow the staff to place and move bins. 18 in [457 mm] Recommended Intelligent Return 18 in [457 mm] Recommended 28XX_distance_to_walls 78-8129-4937-4B 3M, 2015. Minimum distances between RFID systems This section lists minimum distances required between 3M RFID systems in order to avoid RF interference. In some situations, these distances may not be sufficient, though this can only be determined on-site. Specific systems may have additional requirements regarding cable routing, power supplies, other sources of interference and space for clearance for maintenance, workflow, and other considerations. ** Four foot [1,2 m] minimum applies to all 895 pad units and SelfCheck units without a cabinet. For SelfCheck units enclosed in a cabinet, there are no distance restrictions. # This restriction can be worked around by creating a single large system by running lattice to lattice cables between systems. This combined system cannot exceed eight lattices. Measurement is from the RFID reader. Minimum access requirements The hallway and access doors between the shipping area where the system is received and the room that will house the 3M Intelligent Return and Sorter System must meet the specifications shown in the figure in order to move the system into place.
