General Dynamics UK is committed to delivering cutting-edge capability to the UK Ministry of Defence and to customers overseas ensuring those operating on the frontline can do so effectively. It currently provides the tactical communication system used by the UK Armed Forces, known as Bowman, and is designing and developing the next-generation tactical communication and information system, which will be used to plan, deploy, manage and monitor communications and information for the Army. We are also delivering AJAX, the future of Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) for the British Army. WHAT WILL I BE DOING: ENGINEERING GRADUATE SCHEME The General Dynamics UK Engineering graduate scheme allows successful candidates to work across a number of different teams within engineering throughout the Company. The engineering graduate scheme runs for 24 months and consists of up to four six-month rotations across the business streams (however, there is some flexibility depending on projects/business demand). These rotations ensure that you gain experience and a full appreciation of how General Dynamics UK operates. You will have hands-on experience undertaking activities under the supervision and guidance from mentors and managers. Your first year will include a range of training covering technical, interpersonal and team working, to develop skills that are fundamental to the business. Graduates will form multi-disciplined teams where you will learn about the various programmes and business streams, carrying out research and presenting back findings to the business. Graduates joining General Dynamics UK will be expected to add value from day one. Through the development programme and through work experience in departmental areas, graduates will develop into valuable members of the business and hopefully our future leaders. Once you have successfully completed the graduate scheme, you will become an engineer in a relevant area of the business. However, that s not where your support ends. You ll be assigned a career mentor to support you during year s three and four, who will help and guide your development and ensure that your personal development plan is aligned with your own career aspirations, which might include further study for some. BUSINESS OPERATIONS GRADUATE SCHEME The General Dynamics UK graduate scheme allows successful candidates to become a business specialist in the field of Commercial, Finance, Human Resources Project Management and Supply Chain. They will work across a number of different projects, process and teams within business.the business operations graduate scheme runs for 24 months and consists of five rotations across the business streams. These rotations ensure that you gain valuable experience and a full appreciation of how General Dynamics UK operates. You will receive guidance through a mentor and manager throughout the 24 months. Your first year will include a range of training covering some technical, interpersonal and team working to develop skills thatare fundamental to the business. Graduates joining General Dynamics UK will be encouraged to add value from day one. Through the development programme and through work experience in departmental areas, graduates will develop into valuable members of the business and our future leaders. Once you have successfully completed the graduate scheme, you will see progression into a suitable role within the business. QUALIFICATIONS ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: ENGINEERING DISCIPLINES ON OFFER Engineering graduate scheme: Essential skills: Systems Mechanical A minimum qualification of 2:1 Honours in a relevant STEM subject is required for the General Dynamics UK Engineering graduate scheme. Business operations graduate scheme: A minimum qualification of 2:1 honours in a relevant subject is required for the General Dynamics UK graduate scheme. Preferred degrees are Business, Finance and Legal. Desirable: Previous work experience is desired either from short-term or long-term placements. Systems engineering involves the interdisciplinary application of many different engineering principles that enables the realisations of successful systems. This is achieved through the engineer incorporating an approach that takes into account all of the factors that can affect the system through its entire life cycle. A typical day is highly varied and can range from defining customer needs, system design and test through to deployment of completed systems. Software Key responsibilities include analysing software requirements, modelling software components, delivering high quality working code, implementing test cases and producing documentation. This role provides exposure to all aspects of the software development lifecycle, whilst working alongside many experienced and highly-skilled engineers. The role allows a certain amount of creativity to deliver innovative solutions to some of the challenges which the business faces. Working within multi-disciplined project teams, this role involves mechanical design during all phases of the development life-cycle responsible for the integrity of the mechanical design solution including safety, the cost of design, ease of manufacture and systems integration of mechanical solutions; the role takes a holistic approach to mechanical engineering. Electronic This role involves electrical and electronic design during all phases of the development life-cycle. The role works with both the analogue and digital elements of electronic systems of avionic and vehicle platforms to provide the services such as power, communications/networks, safety circuits, computing, control panels. These sub-systems need to be integrated into the platforms and you will be involved in testing to prove that these systems work and meet the customer requirements. 12 What do I need to join General Dynamics UK?
