Help Inspector Parliament decipher the secret code by answering these questions correctly. 1. I am the official tree of Ontario. Three of us were planted here at Queen s Park by Her majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Today, the Ontario flag soars high above me. What kind of tree am I? 2 2. I was Queen when Ontario s Parliament Building was constructed. The building and grounds are named Queen s Park after me. I have a clear view of The Eastern White Pine. Who am I? 10 3. My name is George Brown. I was one of Canada s Fathers of Confederation and I helped unite the provinces in the 1860s. I can be found at the foot of the walkway leading up to the Legislative Building. In 1844, I founded a newspaper that still exists today. What was this newspaper called? 3 4. I was the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada (now Ontario). I represented King George III and helped to make sure that Upper Canada had a parliament. I was also responsible for the construction of Yonge Street, the longest street in the world. Today, cars pass by me as they make their way up the front driveway. Who am I? 12 5. I was the first Prime Minister of Ontario. Nowadays, people in my position are called Premiers. I have the same first and last name as the first Prime Minister of Canada, but we re not related. From where I stand, I can observe Queen Victoria without her knowing. Who am I? 4 6. We were a gift to the citizens of Toronto from Queen Victoria and now guard the entrance to the Legislative Building. What are we? 7

7. I was Ontario s third and longest-serving Premier. In 1897, I became the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario. If the cannons were in use today, I would be too close for comfort. What is my name? 1 8. Locate this image This monument is about Canada s military history. There is a maple tree that stands behind me. When its leaves fall, it symbolizes the sacrifices of Canadian soldiers. I also have a poem written on my walls. Fill in the blanks: The returning walk back toward their / 15 9. I was the architect who designed the Legislative Building. Walk down the steps from the main doors to find my initials. They are carved behind the front archways of the building. What are my initials?.. 13 10. On either side of the main entrance you can see two dates carved in the sandstone. The date on the left is the year that parliament met for the first time in Upper Canada. The date on the right is the year that the Legislative Building was completed. What are these dates? and 11. I was the Premier of Ontario when a fire burned down the Legislative Building s West Wing in 1909. Today, I help George Brown guard the walkway to the Legislative building. Who am I? 8 12. If you look towards the east side of the building, you can see two dragons holding up the Premier s balcony. From where you are standing, can you guess which floor the Premier s office is located on? 14 (Hint: The statue of John Sanfield Macdonald is located near the Premier s office)

13. Continue walking around to the right side of the building and search the area for a metal map of Canada in the ground. This is the Ontario Post One monument which is dedicated to the people who explored, mapped and developed Canada. Use this map to figure out how far away Ottawa is from where you are standing (distance in miles).. miles 14. Make your way back to the front steps of the building. Carved high above the front doors you will find the Seal of Ontario. Around the Seal of Ontario you can locate the 10 themes of the Legislature. They are Music, Agriculture, Commerce, Law, Philosophy, Architecture, Engineering, and Literature. Which ones are missing? & 11 15. Locate the three flags hanging high above the Chamber windows. The green and gold flag represents the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. What is the flag located to the far left? The flag 9 16. Find the plaque to which Sir John A. Macdonald has his back turned.
