sandwich wall introduction Hunter Douglas Construction Elements, part of the Hunter Douglas Group of companies, specialises in producing aesthetic, made-to-measure Façade and Glazing systems to the highest architectural and technical standards. The Sandwich Wall Façade System is the result of in depth research and architecturally oriented developments. Extremely flat panel surfaces in aluminium or other metals are available in a great variety of colours, surface finishes and shapes with panel widths up to 1500mm and length up to 12m. Several joint systems, concealed fixings and glazing systems add perfection in detail to the architectural possibilities. Sandwich Wall panels are composed of two skins of metal surrounding an insulating core of either HCFC-free foam or high density mineral wool. Sandwich Wall panels are available with Country Standard fire ratings as well as FM and LPCB approvals. The PyroPanel version provides one hour fire resistance with aluminium panel skins. 2 sandwich wall www.luxalon.com FACADE SYSTEMS 3
flexibility With Sandwich Wall, almost any architectural design can be translated into a practical solution. The made-to-measure panels can be curved or cranked in either length or width. shapes and sizes Sandwich Wall panels are available in standard widths of 200, 300, 600, 900 and 1200mm but any panel module up to 1500mm can be produced to order even in small quantities. Sandwich Wall panels can be supplied up to 12m in length for both horizontal and vertical applications. The panels are connected by means of a secret fixing clamp at the panel joint, which has the facility to accommodate thermal movement and on-site building tolerances. 4 sandwich wall www.luxalon.com 5 FACADE SYSTEMS
patterns and joints Panel joint patterns have a major influence on the architectural design. Sandwich Wall has many panel joint details and features providing the designer with an infinite number of aesthetic options. In addition, and more economically, false joints can be integrated across the width or the length of a panel, offering even more design possibilities. For designs where joint layouts require the same 4-side connection for joining panels or windows, offers a unique concept...the Bi-Modular Facade System. system simplicity With patented clamps, a completely concealed fixing method is provided for panels, windows and doors. Without drilling and only a few turns with a hexagonal key, the panels can be securely fixed to supporting framework. 6 sandwich wall www.luxalon.com 7 FACADE SYSTEMS
windows, doors and louvres Tried and tested Bi-Modular Windows, Doors and Louvres complete the architectural solution for a totally integrated concept. The windows, doors and louvres are fixed by the same jointing method to supports surrounding openings by secret fixing clamps. The frames are supplied in coated or anodized aluminium all with thermally improved sections allowing for twin colour options. Windows, complete with concealed drainage, are available with top-hung, side hung, and tilt/turn opening mechanisms. The glazing rebate accommodates most insulated glass specifications including the Hunter Douglas Luxaclair sealed integrated venetian blind, within the glazing cavity. infinite possibilities Hunter Douglas Construction Elements believes that a creative design process should not be constrained by standard element sizes or shapes determined by manufacturing processes. Our production processes are designed to be very flexible and, for this reason, this brochure barely illustrates the infinite possibilities of Sandwich Wall panel and glazing systems. 8 sandwich wall www.luxalon.com FACADE SYSTEMS 9

Hunter Douglas Construction Elements provides the opportunity for bespoke designs as well as providing proven robust datum details on a comprehensive CD-ROM available on request. product information Sizes Apart from standard sizes, any width to a maximum of 1500mm and depending on the module, lengths to a maximum of 12m can be produced. Standard widths/modules are 200mm, 300mm, 600mm, 900mm, 1200mm, up to 1500mm maximum. Thickness Panels and integrated windows are available in 50 mm, 60 mm, 75mm and 100 mm versions plus others subject to confirmation. Spanning The spanning of the Sandwich Wall panel depends on the shape, size and colour of the product combined with expected design wind load. The optimum spanning condition can be found from the published span-graphs (available on request). Colours The Sandwich Wall offers an extensive range of colours and surface finishes in high performance coatings LUXACOTE and PVF2. Special colours are available on request. Metals The Sandwich Wall panel system is available in anodized aluminium, coated aluminium and steel, stainless steel, zinc and copper base metal skins or in a range of look-alike metal and masonry surfaces. Weights, thermal insulation and acoustic values Due to the multitude of specification options available and the individual local country authority requirements this information is far too complicated to illustrate in a table format. Please contact the Hunter Douglas Construction Elements office, shown on the back page. Approvals The Sandwich Wall panel and window system has been tested for air leakage, water penetration and fire resistance characteristics in many countries, such as Factory Mutual, The Loss Prevention Certification Board and The UK Centre for Window and Cladding Technology. All certifications are available on request. The Sandwich Wall panel and window system is produced under an ISO 9001 Quality Control system. introducing HP+ The New and Improved sandwich wall system from Hunter Douglas HP+ achieves, in one single product, standards never achieved before... HP+, built on the past success of the Total Wall concept pioneered by Hunter Douglas Construction Elements, provides the designer and constructor, in one product system, a solution to achieve all of the aesthetic requirements and the stringent requirements of The Building Regulations 2000 (Conservation of Fuel and Power, Part L2 and Technical Standards J ), the most onerous testing regime for a façade (as conducted by The Centre for Window and Cladding Technology, CWCT) and the recent building insurance requirements for fire performance (as conducted by The Loss Prevention Certification Board, LPCB, The Factory Mutual Research Corporation, FM and Warrington Fire Research, WFR). All of these qualities are, for the first time, in one product HP+ available from a single source as a Total Wall concept encompassing panels and specially designed integrated windows, doors and louvres. Hunter Douglas Construction Elements have a commitment to provide products to satisfy the requirements of both the designer and constructor, meeting the highest safety standards required in all parts of the world. L2/J compliant HP+ will provide thermal insulation to your building to reduce the energy requirements for heating and cooling the building. HP+ complies with the requirements of Building Regulations Part L2 (England and Wales) and Technical Standards J (Scotland). HP+ is virtually airtight, eliminates almost all thermal bridging and has a series of compliant construction details at interfaces with other elements of the building. HP+ in combination with an integrated window was tested by The Centre for Window and Cladding Technology, CWCT (at Taywood Engineering). The system tested passed the criteria set for air permeability, water tightness (both static and dynamic) at 600 Pa and serviceability to 2400Pa and safety to 3600Pa. Certificate No 613a to LPS1181 HP+ with steel skins, has gained approval to LPS 1181 through The Loss Prevention Certification Board, LPCB and meets the requirements of The Factory Mutual Research Corporation, FM. Luxalon PyroPanel, with aluminium panel skins and a mineral wool insulation, achieved 1 (one) hour fire resistance when tested to BS 476 part 22 by Warrington Fire Research.
