The Nichiha products may be used on exterior walls of Types I, II, III, IV and V construction when installed in accordance with Section 40. of the IBC. The products may be used in fire-resistance-rated walls when constructed in accordance with Section 4.8..0 DESCRIPTION. General: The products are reinforced fiber cement panels made of proprietary constituents and portland cement. The lap siding, NichiShake individual shakes and NichiPanels vertical siding comply with ASTM C 8, Type A, Grade II. The products are available in lengths, widths and thicknesses as shown in Table.. Surface-burning Characteristics and Noncombustibility: The Nichiha products exhibit a flame-spread index of or less and smoke-developed index of 40 or less when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84; and are classified as noncombustible when tested in accordance with ASTM E. 4.0 DESIGN AND INSTALLATION 4. General: Installation must comply with this report and the manufacturer s installation instructions. The manufacturer s published installation instructions and this report must be adhered to and a copy of the instructions and this report must be available at all times on the jobsite during installation. The products must be installed over wall framing and sheathing designed to resist loads in accordance with the applicable code. The wall framing and sheathing must be covered with an approved water-resistive barrier complying with IBC Section 40. and IRC Section R70. prior to installation of the Nichiha products. Fasteners used to install the Nichiha products must be corrosion-resistant and sized as specified in this report. A clear distance of inches ( mm) must be maintained between all Nichiha products and the soil on the ground. 4. Lap Siding: Lap Siding must be applied horizontally, commencing from the bottom of a wall, and with a minimum / 4 -inch-wide ( mm) overlap at the top of each panel. Vertical joints between panels must be over studs and must be staggered on subsequent courses. The vertical panel joints must be gapped / 8 inch (. mm) and filled with exterior-grade sealant conforming to ASTM C 90. A strip of flashing may be used for vertical joints. Gaps approximately / 8 inch (. mm) in width must be left at locations where the Nichiha panels butt each other, butt against the door and window trim, butt against inside corners or butt against corner trim. All gaps must be flashed in accordance with the applicable code and then must be filled with exterior-grade sealant conforming to ASTM C 90. Trim and corners must be installed as required by the Nichiha published installation instructions. Fasteners must be placed no closer than / 4 inch (9 mm) from the top edge and a minimum of / 8 inch (9. mm) from panel ends. lap siding may also be installed directly to concrete masonry blocks as set forth in Table b using / 4 -inch-long (44. mm) SurePin fasteners.
