Divisional Information The Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal is an independent statutory authority set up to hear appeals and civil enforcement proceedings concerning acts and decisions controlled by the Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal Act 1993, Land Use Planning Approvals Act 1993, Statutory Planning Schemes, Relevant State policies, Principles of Town and Country Planning, Environmental Management and Pollution Control Act 1994, Historic Cultural Heritage Act 1993, Living Marine Resources Management Act 1995, Marine Farming Planning Act 1995, State Coastal Policy, Public Health Act 1997 and Strata Titles Act 1998. This broad range of legislative applications and appeals involves contact and liaison with the public, professionals, government departments, local authorities, community groups and corporate entities. The subject matter brought before the Tribunal, likewise varies, from simple domestic matters to projects of high economic and environmental importance The Tribunal is required to resolve such appeals and applications either through determination with the assistance of experts, or alternative dispute resolution techniques. About the position Objective Provide an efficient administrative support service to the Resource Management and Planning Appeal Tribunal (the Tribunal) and secretarial support to the Registrar and Chairperson. Duties Provide administrative support to the Tribunal including: Typing of correspondence, summons and orders; Transcribing the decisions of the Tribunal from audio tape; Accepting and receipting of notices of appeal and monies; Preparing appeal documents; Maintaining the Register of Appeals; Opening, sorting and distribution of mail; and Recording hearings and providing administrative support to members in hearings. Act as first point of contact between the Tribunal and the public including: Screening and directing calls as necessary; Advising the public on the general procedures of the Tribunal, in person and by telephone; Liaising with applicants, lawyers, planners and other professionals as required; and Liaising with council planning officers regarding new appeals.

Level of responsibility Responsible for: Representing the Tribunal in an appropriate manner as a first point of contact with clients; Providing accurate information to the public and other enquiries; Providing an efficient secretarial, clerical and keyboard support service including the collection and proper disposal of public monies; Maintaining the strictest of confidence on all Tribunal matters. Conduct your work in a safe manner such that it does not put yourself or others at risk; Comply with any reasonable instruction contained in WHS policies, procedures and instructions and report hazards, near misses and incidents to your supervisors. Direction and supervision received The position reports to the Registrar and operates in an environment of routine supervision, work being carried out in accordance with established guidelines and instructions. Scope exists for the exercise of discretion in the choice of work methods. Selection criteria The following specific selection criteria must be addressed by candidates by describing their relevant personal and professional skills and abilities; qualifications, training and competencies; past achievements; and potential for development. The position objective and duties can also be used to assist in addressing the selection criteria. 1. Demonstrated experience and ability to provide an effective and efficient secretarial and administrative support service. 2. Well-developed administrative and organisational skills, with the capacity to work effectively in an environment subject to work pressures and change. 3. Sound communication and interpersonal skills, together with the ability to empathise with the situation of appellants and applicants. 4. A high standard of keyboard and audio typing skills, together with demonstrated experience in the use of common desktop computing packages. 5. Ability to work effectively, either individually or as part of a team, in the efficient and timely delivery of professional client services.
