Phosphate Fertilizer Production Technology Workshop Marrakech, Morocco October 19 23, 2009 Organized by: International Fertilizer Development Center Muscle Shoals, Alabama (U.S.A.) On Behalf of: International Fertilizer Industry Association

About IFDC The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) is a nonprofit, public international organization (PIO) dedicated to increasing agricultural productivity and food production through the development and use of plant nutrients in sustainable crop production systems. Headquartered in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, U.S.A., IFDC is involved in human resource development, research, and technical assistance in collaboration with public, private, national, and international organizations throughout the world. About IFA The International Fertilizer Industry Association (IFA) is a not-for-profit organization representing the global fertilizer industry. Our members serve farmers everywhere as they meet the world s growing food, feed, fibre and bioenergy needs in a sustainable manner. IFA has some 525 members in about 85 countries. About half of the membership is based in developing countries. IFA member companies represent all activities related to the production and distribution of every type of fertilizer, their raw materials and intermediates. IFA s membership also includes organizations involved in agronomic research and training with regard to fertilizers. The global fertilizer industry produces some 170 million tons of fertilizer nutrients annually. These are used in every corner of the globe to support agricultural production. Since 1974, IFDC has organized over 670 workshops, study tours, and training programs for about 9,000 participants from 150 countries. The programs have covered a wide range of subjects, including fertilizer marketing, production, distribution and handling, and numerous specialized subjects. In recent years, related courses also covered sustainable agriculture, computer modeling and simulation, fertilizer recommendations, and environmental aspects of fertilizer production and use. Objective The objective of the IFA-IFDC workshop is to provide engineers in the fertilizer industry an in-depth view of phosphate fertilizer production technologies and identify future trends and needs. The workshop will examine the status and most recent technologies to produce phosphate fertilizers and intermediate materials. The workshop will help improve participants skills and broaden their vision and understanding of the entire industry, including technology, economics, energy use, safety, and environmental stewardship. The knowledge gained will enable participants to solve specific problems and improve operation and profitability of their plants. The workshop will provide an opportunity to exchange ideas and disseminate information through discussion of the various technical, economic, safety, and environmental issues. The workshop is designed for engineers new to the fertilizer industry, engineers who have recently assumed new responsibilities, and for those who would like to become better acquainted with new technologies in the industry. Workshop Content The workshop will include formal sessions, break out groups, and visits to factories. Interactive discussion involving the participants and lecturers will be an integral part of the program to ensure that specific interests are covered.
