Job Description Job Title: Learning Management System (LMS) Administrator Reports To: Director, Online Learning FLSA Status: Exempt Level: 212 Position Class: Job Summary: The LMS Administrator is responsible for the overall planning, development, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of the College s learning management system (LMS). Reporting to the Director of Online Learning, this position will manage the day to day operations of the institutional LMS projects, manage LMS budget, maintain LMS security, and provide LMS training to faculty and other LMS users. The LMS Administrator is also responsible for researching and evaluating new instructional technologies and providing recommendations to meet the college s online learning goals NOTE: Job Descriptions and essential functions are subject to change due to advances in technology, utilization of work force, and other factors which may impact the College s need to modify position requirements. Applicants may be asked to demonstrate any or all of the following duties: 1. Acts as a member of the overall Online Learning team. 2. Serves as point of contact with LMS hosting vendor and other partners to ensure the College s Learning Management System (LMS) functions with the service uptime, security and stability that meet the contracted service level agreement. 3. Schedule routine LMS maintenance and installations, recommends scheduling for significant upgrades and maintenance, and communicates with the LMS user community for the service downtime. 4. Develops a LMS course deployment strategy for the College in collaboration with faculty, student services and business departments, including course management, creation, backup, maintenance, and user role creation and maintenance. 5. Implements actions ensuring course shell creation, backup, and maintenance. Coordinates with ITS to ensure the integrity of data transferred to and from the Banner ERP system, Job Description, 2013 Page 1 of 5

including XEI and single sign-on integrations. 6. Implements the course and content backup process to ensure disaster recovery policies are adhered to. 7. Prepares and maintains comprehensive usage and backup logs and statistics. Prepares reports as requested from LMS usage logs and reporting tool. 8. Sets up and defines user accounts and roles in compliance with the College s security policies. 9. Provides day-to-day issue resolution and support key stakeholders. 10. Stays current with online instructional technology, researches new trends and evaluates new approaches. 11. Maintains maintenance and storage of the LMS, back-up, restore, and archive courses and content with the confines of the terms of the LMS hosting contract and SCF backup policies. 12. Ensures SCF is compliant with storage and usage limitations under the LMS hosting contract. 13. Provides technical training for the faculty and staff to use LMS, web tools, course management systems, classroom technology, etc., in conjunction with the remainder of the Online Learning Staff. 14. Provides Tier II support for the LMS Technical Support Specialist to resolve an LMS issue before it is escalated to the vendor support. 15. Assists with preparation of LMS budget, and maintains budget expenditures and balances. 16. Performs other duties as assigned. Education/Experience: Bachelor s Degree in instructional technology or related area equivalent from a regionally accredited four-year college or university; three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference is given to experience in current and projected LMS vendors. Supervisory Experience: One or more years of experience as a lead employee, with responsibility for scheduling and assigning work, facilitating teams, training employees, and assisting others with problems, is required. Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze and interpret scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to technical questions and/or complaints from college leadership, customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to work with formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc. Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of LMS software systems, including setup, configuration, backup, course management, and troubleshooting. Experience in establishing single sign-on between various software systems. Proficiency in file management and use of current College s ERP and portal systems and e-mail software is essential. Experience with web page creation and editing applications. Experience with HML, XML, Javascript.
