Burrtec Environmental Solutions Burrtec provides environmental solutions for: Commercial Property Education Construction & Demolition Food & Restaurant Municipal Industrial Federal & State Government Manufacturing Special Events Healthcare Customers

FOOD WASTE Californians throw away nearly six million tons of food scraps each year. Rather than throwing away excess food, Burrtec helps its customers manage their food waste through source reduction, food rescue programs, anaerobic digestion and composting for soil restoration. Organic material collected from participating establishments is taken to one of our facilities where it is mixed with green waste to produce nutrient-rich compost. The complete process takes approximately 90 days. The final product can be mixed with existing soil to stimulate healthy plant growth. Customers

Construction & Demolition Recycling Construction and demolition (C & D) materials account for about 30 percent of the waste stream in California. Many of these materials can be reused, thus prolonging our supply of natural resources. Common C & D materials include lumber, drywall, metals, masonry (brick, concrete, etc.) carpet, plastic, pipe, rocks, dirt, paper, cardboard, or green waste related to land development. Burrtec will assist with local ordinance requirements, LEED certification, and CalGreen building standards to assist with statewide diversion goals. Burrtec is a one-stop solution for your C & D material. Burrtec will help create and develop on-site solutions, provide equipment, transport material, process the material, and administer all the reporting needs and requirements for our customers. Customers

Education Recycling Life Cycle Have you ever wondered what happens to y recycling after you place it in the bin? Place recyclables in container ship it to manufacturers to be made into new products. dump in recycling Organic Composting Workshops Organic waste makes up 30%-40% of the waste stream. Composting kitchen scraps and yard trimmings helps divert material from the landfill as well as waterways and water treatment facilities. Creating your own compost encourages gardening and provides a nutrient-rich source to grow a garden. Burrtec composting workshops are available to the public. Burrtec vermicomposting workshops provide information to the public on how to utilize limited space using worms to break down organic waste. Vermicomposting is the process of composting, utilizing various species of worms. Vermicast is the end product of organic matter created by the worms. Vermi-composting is ideal for those with limited space. Lifecycle Presentations Burrtec s recycling life cycles presents the process from how the material is collected to where it ends up. This reinforces the importance of separating recyclable materials. Customers Vermicomposting Workshops

Education Social Media Burrtec s Facebook page provides followers creative recycling tips and up-to-date information regarding their trash and recycling services. Recycling Tours Burrtec provides tours of our material recovery facilities to allow students and different organizations to understand how we process our material. Our viewing room allows tour attendees to see the whole processing line from beginning to end. Newsletters & Brochures Burrtec newsletters and brochures are mailed out to customers that provide important dates, information about recycling, city ordinances, and easy tips on how to bring recycling into their homes or business. Customers Customers

Environmental Action Programs The State of California established a goal of 75 percent recycling by the year 2020 through source reduction, recycling, and composting. With Assembly Bill 341 now in effect, Burrtec is taking an aggressive approach to educate customers on this California policy. In order to assure that our customers are informed on regulatory compliance, we thoroughly educate our staff through training seminars held by industry experts. Burrtec provides waste assessments through our Environmental Coordinator Staff that customizes zero waste initiatives for our customers. If a customer would like to reduce their trash by implementing recycling programs within their business, Burrtec staff can assess which program is best for that particular customer. Customers

Material Recovery Facility (MRF) Burrtec s material recovery facilities sort and process recyclables. With the increase in the amount of recyclables being discarded, material recovery facilities play an important role in the process of collecting recyclables to redistributing them to third-parties to reintroducing them to the general public. Burrtec is constantly finding new material to divert from landfills though the use of our material recovery facilities. Environment

Natural Gas Trucks Natural gas vehicles generate fewer exhaust and greenhouse gas emissions than their counterparts. Burrtec has transitioned over 50% of its diesel fleet to natural gas. In addition, Burrtec has installed CNG fueling stations at various locations. Environment

Since transitioning over 160 trucks to CNG, Burrtec has installed CNG fueling stations at various hauling yard locations. Environment CNG Fueling Stations

Synthetic Oil Conventional lubricants are refined from crude oil. Synthetic lubricants, on the other hand, are chemically engineered to form pure lubricants. Synthetic lubricants contain no contaminants or molecules that don t serve a designed purpose. They are made from molecules that are saturated with a higher percentage of carbon-hydrogen bonds, leaving few sites to which other, harmful molecules can attach and attack the molecular composition of the oil. By converting to synthetic oil, Burrtec has significantly reduced engine oil consumption and oil filter turnover. Environment

Composting is the controlled decomposition of organic material such as leaves, twigs, grass clippings, and food scraps. Composting helps to keep the high volume of organic material out of landfills and turns it into a product that is useful for soil restoration. Mulch is the soil covering used to control weeds or erosion, retain moisture in soil, and insulate soil from cold weather. Organic materials commonly used for mulch include wood chips, ground up landscape trimmings, shredded bark, coarse compost material, straw and shredded paper. Through recycling products such as green waste and food waste, Burrtec has created a line of quality products to offer to both residential and commercial customers. Environment Composting Operations

Residue Reduction Campaign Burrtec created a residue reduction campaign to increase public education regarding recycling and lower contamination rates while improving a city s diversion efforts. Environment

Christmas Tree Recycling Burrtec will collect and recycle residents Christmas trees at no additional charge. Trees are then processed into mulch to avoid landfill disposal and is available to the public at no charge. Environment
