POSITION DESCRIPTION Head of School ECG College EMPLOYEE DEPARTMENT REPORTS TO APPROVED BY ECG College Chief Executive Officer Chief Executive Officer DATE 29 th March 2016 POSITION OBJECTIVE The Head of School leads, develops and promotes the academic and creative reputation of ECG College in alignment with the School s strategic direction. The role has overall responsibility for the professional leadership and management of ECG College, ensuring superior standards in teaching and curriculum design, learning delivery and compliance. As an academic leader and mentor, the Head of School must motivate, encourage and inspire the development of a strong, effective and efficient teaching team that operates ethically and with a clear focus on delivering outcomes for students and the School as a whole. To provide effective, dynamic and inspirational leadership and promote a culture of encouragement, support and guidance to ensure that every student is able to fulfil their true potential. Achievement of the position objective will be reviewed against the following key performance indicators in the annual appraisal and review process and as required. Detailed roles and responsibilities for each of the KPI s are listed below and will form part of the KPI review process. 1. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS General Develop, maintain, improve and co-ordinate inspiring curriculum delivery, delegating duties as appropriate but maintaining overall control and responsibility; Ensure compliance with state and federal policies and documentation as outlined by the government and sector specific governing bodies; Maintain and develop existing community links, partnerships and networks; Monitor, evaluate and review classroom practice and promote improvement strategies, aiming for outstanding standards of learning and teaching at all times; Maintain an active involvement of ECG College, with local schools and support agencies, through external liaison and networking; Provide monthly reports to the CEO in relation to students, curriculum, staff and budgets; Maintain accurate records in regards to student attendance, progress and results; Be responsible for internal and external moderation to ensure that the College has comparable standards for assessment and marking; Position Description ECG College Head of School P a g e 1

Monitor current curriculum areas and continue to be aware of current trends within the College and education in general. Ensure that College staff are also aware of these trends; Provide leadership in innovation with ECG College; Undertake other such duties as may be reasonably expected. Staff Foster improvement and change in the school, coach and actively seek to improve pedagogy. This includes but is not limited to: classroom observation, professional discussion, feedback surveys from students, aligning teachers with the College s strategic intents, actively assisting teachers in the development of resources and lesson plans, fostering personal planning and generally working closely with staff; Engage in an ongoing professional feedback cycle with teachers and be responsible for mentoring and the development of staff; Ensure job descriptions and performance management for all staff are based on clear roles and responsibilities, reviewed annually and consistent with the conditions of employment; Develop, motivate and lead staff to achieve the highest professional standards; Foster collegiality between campuses; Ensure staff are aware of, and comply with, the meeting of both internal and external deadlines that may apply to matters of reporting, assessment or compliance; Lead discipline specific discussions within the school community with a focus on teaching practice, innovation and professional development; Ensure all staff are familiar with the funding and contractual obligations relating to VCAL courses; Assist staff with the completion of reports including: proof reading, providing direction and assistance to new staff; Ensure the induction of new staff is well planned and supportive. Students Oversee the provision of engaging, stimulating and enjoyable learning opportunities for students; Oversee equity and consistency in instruction and assessment for students; Provide nurturing and attentive care for all students; Build acceptable standards of behaviour and attendance; Develop and document strategies to meet the needs of individual students; Coordinate the development and implementation of student reports; Emphasize and celebrate individual student successes; Encourage involvement and active participation in daily tasks, events and excursions; Coordinate and distribute the ECG College Newsletter each term; Provide opportunities to actively engage with parents and/or guardians. 2. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Professional Standards and Development Complete the online CCG Induction Program; Attend and participate in CCG staff training days as required; Maintain a professional standard of conduct, reliability and communication at all times in accordance with the CCG Staff Code of Conduct and other relevant Policies and Procedures. Maintain ongoing work and professional experience in the relevant area of specialisation to ensure skills and knowledge reflect current industry practices; Collect and submit evidence of participation for all professional development activities; Demonstrate professional standards of presentation, reliability and punctuality as per the Staff Handbook; Discuss any proposed changes to classes or appointment schedules with the Chief Executive Officer prior to advising any students or implementing the changes; Maintain a high level of interpersonal communication skills at all times, actively demonstrating courtesy, tolerance and professionalism in all interactions. Organisational Functions Actively support the mission, vision and values of CCG in the performance of all roles and functions; Ensure that all actions support the good reputation of CCG and assist to build a positive perception of CCG with all stakeholders including students, community groups, employers and visitors; Document all internal and external communication in accordance with CCG policies and procedures; Actively participate in and comply with the Health and Safety systems, policies and emergency procedures in place throughout the organisation including; Promptly and accurately reporting all hazards, accidents, incidents and near misses; Ensuring the safe use and maintenance of appropriate equipment including PPE for self and students; Maintaining a current knowledge of emergency evacuations procedures for all relevant campuses and participating positively in drills and training sessions; Make recommendations for improvements in health and safety; Participate positively in marketing and business development opportunities and events; Be aware of, and participate in, strategic planning processes including making suggestions through the Chief Executive Officer for improvements or new business opportunities; Actively work with colleagues to build positive relationships and team work across all departments; Ensure that all information related to the operations, stakeholders, staff, students, business or any other related activity is maintained as confidential and may not be disclosed to any third party without the express written permission of the CEO. A breach of confidentiality is a serious misdemeanour and will be addressed through the CCG performance Management Policy and Procedure; Agree that the intellectual property for any works created during and in the course of employment and the entire copyright throughout the world are owned by CCG; Perform other duties as requested, in a timely, professional, empathetic, accurate manner and in accordance with Community College Gippsland Policies and Procedures.
