PART G Impact of the Pollution abatement measures taken on conservation of Natural resources and the cost of production. Smooth operation of Pollution abatement measures has resulted in following impact in conservation of Natural resources and the cost of production. a) Complete recycle of entire wastewater which is generated from surface runoff and storm water after treatment in the waste water treatment plants to reservoir and used for make up water for coal washery Pellet plant, ash quenching in silos fire fighting, sprinkling on haul roads to control fugitive emissions and for plantation purpose and also serves as water conservation measure. b) Complete recycle of Turbine and other steam condensates to conserve water and chemicals. c) Complete recycle of wastewater generated in Coal Washery through Circulating Tank, Slurry Tank & Thickener. d) Complete recycle of blow down Water from the cooling water of blast furnace to Slag Granulation System. e) Complete recycling of wastewater from coke oven for coke quenching. f) Raw water consumption is 4.02 m 3 /T of steel in the year 20-16. g) Reduction of green house gases by use of by product gases for power generation. 1) The hot gas generated from coke oven is being utilized in the power generation passing through waste heat recovery boilers (WHRB) feeding to two numbers of turbo generators which generates 16 MW power. 2) The hot gas generated from all DRI kilns is used for power generation through waste heat recovery boilers(whrb). h) Blast furnace gas after treatment in Gas Cleaning Plant utilized in tunnel furnace of CSP, Sinter Plant, Lime Plant, Electric Arc furnace, Cold Rolling Mill, Wire Rod Mill and Pellet plant. i) Concreting of all internal roads work under progress. We have completed construction of more than.0 km of concrete road to reduce the fugitive dust emissions inside plant premises. j) Eight numbers of Mobile water sprinkling tankers are being engaged for regular water sprinkling on haul roads and in construction areas for control of fugitive dust emissions. k) Three truck mounted high vacuum road sweepers are engaged for continuous cleaning of concrete roads inside the plant premises to control fugitive dust. l) Fixed water sprinklers have been installed the potential areas of DRI units, Raw material handling and stacking areas for suppression of fugitive dust emissions. m) Proper schedule of preventive maintenance and centrifuging of oil on all critical machines is there to minimize used oil generation. n) Reduction in Raw water consumption has been achieved by: (i) Acidic/Alkaline wastewater generated from DM plant is neutralized in neutralization pit and reused for ash conditioning. (ii) Cooling tower blow down water of 3x 130 MW is completely reused for ash quenching in silos. (iii) Using treated effluent of ETP for dust suppression inside plant premises. (iv) (v) Recycling backwash water from Sand filters to Waste Water Treatment plant. Optimization of regeneration cycle of Ion-exchangers beds in DM plant to reduce effluent generation by modifying flow-measuring instruments. o) Running of Cooling towers on High cycle of concentration (COC 5.0 to 6.0) and reducing of water losses through blow down. PART H Additional Measures / Investment proposal for environmental protection including abatement of Pollution, prevention of Pollution. Efficient measures for abatement of pollution were implemented under the project these are working satisfactorily. However, following additional measures have been taken for overall environmental improvement. a) Installation of additional bag filters with the existing de-dusting ESPs of DRI Kiln III & IV to control process dust b) Up gradation of Fume Extraction System to control secondary emission from SMS plant c) Complete concreting work of the floor area in between cooler discharge and product house area of all kilns to prevent fugitive dust emissions and to maintain proper housekeeping d) Construction of WWTP-III to treat the wastewater generated from 3x 130 captive power plant, DRI Kiln 5 to 12 and coal washery area e) Construction and installation of Acid Regeneration Plant III for collection, storage and treatment of Waste Pickled Liquor (WPL) and acidic rinse water from Cold Rolling Mill and Pipe and Tube Mill Plants. f) Continuous development of flora by tree plantation and green belt development. In the year 20-16, 64000 numbers of species planted in and around the plant. Plan for the year 2016-17 is 60000 plants. g) Adequate capacity silencer has been installed in drain and vent lines of turbine of blower house of Blast Furnace to reduce Noise Pollution while rolling of Turbine & stopping of Turbine. h) Augmentation of 02 numbers of MT hazardous waste containers from Ramky Enviro Engineers, Hyderabad has been done and containers kept in CRM mill and WRM plant for effective handling, storage of hazardous waste and its disposal at Common Hazardous Waste Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (CHWTSDF) near village Kanchichuan, Sukinda in district of Jajpur, Odisha in eco- friendly manner. i) Rainwater harvesting project has been implemented for utilization of surface water during monsoon. j) Disposal of E-waste as per the rule to the authorized E-waste dismantler and recycler Greenex India Resources Pvt.limited. Annexure - 7 MODE OF DISPOSAL OF SOLID WASTE Development of Disposal Site: The waste are disposed in the area is non hazardous in nature. The major solid wastes are namely the Ash generating from the Power plant, and kiln accretion material from DRI. Site Location: 1. Derba Bhushan Power & Steel Limited has purchased a patch of land measuring around 110 Acs. near village Derba under Rengali Tahasil, P.S.: Katarbega of Dist. Sambalpur, for disposal of Solid Waste generating from its Integrated Steel Plant at Thelkoloi. The site is around 8 KM from the East Coast Railway Line and 8.5 KM from the State Highway No. 10 towards village Derba. The site is connected from the state highway through a village road which shall be developed by us for use. The site is situated at a distance of about 2 KM away from the village Derba. The total population of the village shall be about 400-500. No water body is located within a radius of 500 meters. Since the area is isolated from habitation, it is suitable for disposal of solid waste. 2.Laripali Bhushan Power & Steel Limited has purchased a patch of land measuring around 33.35 Acs. near village Laripali under Rengali Tahasil, P.S.: Katarbega of Dist. Sambalpur, for disposal of Solid Waste generating from its Integrated Steel Plant at Thelkoloi. The site is around 22 KM from plant. The site is connected to the plant through state highway no. 10 till Ganesh Nagar and then through newly constructed concrete road from Ganesh Nagar to Laripalli. The site is situated at a distance of about 900 meters from the main Village. The total population of the village shall be about 400 500 persons. No water body, High Way or Railway Line is located within a radius of 500 meters. Map indicating the dumping area is enclosed as Attachment. 3. Babuchakuli: Bhushan Power & Steel Limited has obtained NOC from State Pollution Control Board,Odisha to filling of 11 numbers of large Abandon Stone quarry with solid Waste (Flyash & Bottom ash) in the 03 nos. of Government plots 1450,1728,and 1673 comprise an area of 90.81 acres and One Private plot no. 1450/1906 of area 1.44 acres in the Village- Babuchakuli, P.S- Katarbaga, Tahasil- Rengali, Dist- Sambalpur. The Site is around KM from our integrated steel plant. The site is connected to the plant through state highway no-10 (SH-10) till Ganesh Nagar. State highway (SH- 10) is about 5-6 KM from the site. The total population of the village shall be about 400 500 persons. No water body, High Way or Railway Line is located within a radius of 500 meters. Land fill site for different types of solid waste is consist of the following activities Earth Cutting and leveling to create maximum storage capacity and to obtain fill material for embankment. Provision of embankment around each land fills area to retain the material and to prevent its carry over / run-off with rain water. The embankment will also serve to retain any rain water falling within the area Provision of garland drain around the embankments. Provisions for approach road to each land fill area. Page -36

Numbers of pits are made with a depth of around 5 to 6 meters for disposal of the solid hazardous waste. It is proposed to raise the embankment up to a height of -18 meters from the ground to accommodate maximum amount of solid waste in each pit. After digging the pits the floor of the pit has been compacted with clay, over which a 6 inch sand layer have laid so as to prevent leaching of water and ground water contamination. Provision for water sprinkling with fixed water sprinkling system and flexible hose are being provided so as to prevent fugitive emission The dumping area is well protected through - 18 m height and 3 to 4 m wide embankment and having garland drain all around. The garland drain are having slope from all sides so that the rain water can travel by gravity to the collection pit which is constructed at a low gradient. A tentative layout plan of the area is shown in Figure -1 below. The stacking of solid hazardous waste is being done systemically by properly laying in various areas step by step. Necessary machinery such as dozer or JCB is being engaged for the purpose. The dumping and stacking are started from the low level area so that more stacking could be done in the area. With proper stacking and compaction the stacking height can de increased above 3 meters in each layer. Between two successive layers a thin layer of binder earth material is being used for proper compaction. Proper approach road has been made within the area for easy operation of trucks and tankers. A cross section view of the plan is described in Figure 2. The solid wastes from the plant are transported by road to the dump area. Solid like Ash is transported in closed tankers in dry condition. Other waste which is heavy due to bigger particle size is transported by covered trucks, tippers or dumpers. The trucks, tippers or dumpers carrying waste are properly covered by tarpoline so as to prevent any spillage in the road during movement. Necessary arrangement for water sprinkling over the road is being done to prevent fugitive dust emission during transportation. Green Belt Development: A thick green belt will be developed in the entire periphery of the disposal site so as to prevent soil erosion and generation of fugitive dust. Endemic and local species of trees as mentioned below having good survival rate shall be planted. Tectona grandis Mangifera indica Gmelina Arborea Peltophorum Casia fistula Dalbergia sissoo Shorea robusta Azatirachta indica Delonix regia etc Occupational Safety and Health The main factor of Occupational health is dust from fugitive emission. Following measures are being followed during operation. a. Proper dust suppression systems like water sprinkling is being done in approach road, waste disposal area. b. Safety equipments such as nose mask, gumshoes and gloves are issued to all employees. c. Rotation of duties of workers. d. Periodical medical examination of workers is being done in Health Centre. e. Monitoring of different factors leading to occupational health hazards and taking timely action to mitigate the impact. Periphery Development Manpower required in dump area has been engaged from the nearest villages. Necessary development work to uplift the mankind is being taken up. Roads and other amenities in the nearby area and villages will be developed. Page -37
