Determining the appropriate installation method is the responsibility of you, your architect, or construction professional. If you have questions, please contact your local Pella retailer. YOU WILL NEED TO SUPPLY: Cedar or Impervious shims/spacers (12-20) High quality exterior grade polyurethane or silicone sealant (1 tube per window) SEALANT Low expansion window & door foam insulation (1/2 can) Do not use high expansion foams. 1 OPENING PREPARATION A. Prepare the window opening by removing the existing sash or existing frame. Note: Existing frame may be left in place so as not to disturb the existing exterior stucco. 1A B. Verify the opening is plumb, level and square. Sash Stop 1B 1B Stud Stud Sill Plate Sill Plate Exterior Exterior 2 PREPARE THE WINDOW FOR INSTALLATION A. Remove packing material from the window. Window Opening B. Verify that the window will fit into the opening and the window flanges will overlap the stucco or existing window frame by 3/4" on all (4) sides. Note: Fix any problems with the opening before proceeding. 3/4" 2B 3 SETTING AND FASTENING THE WINDOW A. Place (2) lines of sealant on all (4) window flanges that will make contact with the stucco area. Note: If there are weep holes in the existing window frame, DO NOT block them with sealant. 3A 2 OR MORE PEOPLE WILL BE REQUIRED FOR THE FOLLOWING STEPS. B. Insert the window from the exterior of the building and centering the window in the prepared opening. C. Insert shims between the window and the sides of the rough opening at the top 2 anchor hole locations in the window sides. D. Fasten the window at the top of the opening by driving a 2-1/2" long screw (provided) through the top 2 holes in the window sides, and into the wall members. Note: Make sure the window flange is tight against the stucco or window frame before driving screws to maintain a good line of sealant between the flange and the stucco. 3D 3C Shim 2-1/2" screw E. Pull out the bottom of the take-out clip in each side of the window. 3E

3 SETTING AND FASTENING THE WINDOW (continued) F. Raise and remove the lower sash. Raise the lower sash until the bottom of the sash clears the bottom end guide of the sash balance. Slide the sash to one side of the frame. Pull the other side toward the interior until it clears the frame and the trim, then slide over to remove the sash from the opposite side of the frame. Note: 2 people may be required to handle the sash safely. G. Disengage the balances from the take-out clips by holding them at the top and bottom and pushing down firmly 1". Caution: Balances are spring loaded. Balance 3G H. Remove the balances by tilting the tops of the balances away from the frame and lifting the hook out of the frame. Bottom end guide 3I I. Plumb and square the window. Insert shims, as necessary, between the window and the sides of the rough opening at the anchor hole locations in the window sides. (Do not over shim). Move the window in the opening until the flanges are tight against the stucco surface. 3I J. Fasten the window in the opening by driving the 2-1/2" long screws (provided) through the holes in the window sides, through the shims and into the wall members. Note: Make sure the window flange is tight against the stucco or window frame before driving screws to maintain a good line of sealant between the flange and the stucco. K. Reinstall the balances by inserting the hooks into the upper of the two holes in the sides of the window. Hold the balances at the top and bottom and push them down firmly to engage them under the take-out clips. Shim 3J 2-1/2" screw L. Insert the sash above the take-out clips. Make sure the bottom of the sash is above the balance end guide. Insert the sash into one side of the frame and slide over until the side clears the opposite side of the frame. Insert the other side into the frame. Push the sash down slowly, moving it side to side to ensure the balances are seated properly. Balance hook 3K Balance 3K

3 SETTING AND FASTENING THE WINDOW (continued) M.Push down on the center of the take-out clips. N. Check the window operation by unlocking, opening and closing the sash. If the window does not operate smoothly, check and adjust the shims. O. Insert jamb hole plugs (provided). Shim P. Install head drip above the top window flange per the head drip manufacturer's recommendations. 3O Jamb plug 3Q 3M Q. Toe bead the edge of the window flange on top and sides to the stucco. 4 INTERIOR SEAL Caution: Ensure use of low expansion polyurethane window and door installation foams and strictly follow the foam manufacturer's recommendations for application. Use of high expansive foams or improper application of the foam may cause the window to bow and hinder operation. A. Apply low-expansion insulating foam. From the interior insert the nozzle of the applicator approximately 1" deep into the space between the door and the rough opening and apply a 1" deep bead of foam. This will allow room for expansion of the foam and will minimize squeeze out. Allow the foam to cure completely (usually 12 to 24 hours) before proceeding to the next step. 4A B. Check the window operation by opening and closing the window. Adjust or change as needed. 5 INTERIOR TRIM A. Apply interior trim as required.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE Care and maintenance information is available by contacting your local Pella retailer. This information is also available at www.pellaimpervia.com. FINISH The interior and exterior frame and sash are protected with a powder coating baked-on factory finish that requires no painting. Clean this surface with mild soap and water. Stubborn stains and deposits may be removed with mineral spirits. Do NOT use abrasives. Do NOT scrape or use tools that might damage the surface. Use of inappropriate solvents, brickwash or cleaning chemicals will cause adverse reactions with window and door materials and voids the Limited Warranty. NOTE Because all construction must anticipate some water infiltration; it is important that the wall system be designed and constructed to properly manage moisture. Pella Corporation is not responsible for claims or damages caused by unanticipated water infiltration; deficiencies in building design, construction and maintenance; failure to install Pella products in accordance with these instructions; or the use of Pella products in systems which do not allow for proper management of moisture within the wall systems. The determination of the suitability of all building components, including the use of Pella products, as well as the design and installation of flashing and sealing systems are the responsibility of you, your architect, or a construction professional. Moisture problems, including unacceptable water infiltration, have been associated with barrier systems, such as EIFS (also known as synthetic stucco). Pella products should not be used in barrier EIFS systems unless Pella's current, recommended installation procedures for installation of windows and doors into EIFS are used. Any other use of Pella products with barrier EIFS systems will void the Limited Warranty. Product modifications that are not approved by Pella Corporation will void the Limited Warranty.
