Project teams may earn an additional half point for exemplary Option E if 100% of the roof area is vegetated. Up to two half points may be earned by meeting the requirements of two of the compliance paths under SS Credit 1 Option D or for exemplary performance as noted for Option L. An additional half point for Option K may be earned by demonstrating exemplary performance of 10%. One additional half point may be earned by demonstrating 30% reduction in water use for an entire building for Option J. In addition to earning WE credits 1.1 and 1.2, project teams that achieve a projected water savings of 40% are eligible for an exemplary performance ID credit. Project teams may also achieve an ID credit for demonstrating potable water use reduction in process and non-regulated water consuming fixtures. The calculation methodology for demonstrating process and non-regulated water savings is similar to the calculation outlined above for regulated water use. Project teams define reasonable usage assumptions and calculation design and baseline water consumption based on high efficiency and standard water use fixtures. Process and non-regulated water use savings is then compared to regulated water use. If the process and non-regulated water use savings is at least 10% of the total design regulated water use, the project team is eligible for an Innovation in Design point. Select a building that has achieved an environmental performance characteristic for at least one credit found in another LEED Rating System. Innovation in Design credits that are not addressed by existing LEED credits in other LEED Rating Systems will also be considered on their merit. A half point can be earned for each credit selection with an additional half point as appropriate for exemplary performance.

There is no exemplary EA Credit 1.3 Option A. for exemplary performance when the requirements reach the next incremental step. For EA Credit 1.3 Option B, the credit calculation must be 45% or greater. for exemplary performance when the project satisfies the next incremental step. For Optimize Energy, Lighting Power, the credit calculation must be 45% or greater. For Building Reuse, Maintain Interior Non-Structural Components, the credit calculation must be 80% or greater. For green power, the annual green power contract amount must be for 100% of the calculated annual usage. To earn the innovation credit, the annual electricity usage either has the have been measured or would have had to been calculated using the Energy Cost Budget Method or Rating Method in ANSI/ASHRAE/IESNA 90.1-2004. A default of 16 kwh/ sq.ft./yr is needed to achieve an Innovation in Design point. for exemplary performance when the next incremental percentage threshold is achieved. For resource reuse, the credit calculation must be 15% or greater. for exemplary performance in Construction Waste Management when the percent diverted is 95% of total waste or greater.

for exemplary performance when the requirements reach the next incremental step. For recycled content, the credit calculation must be 30% or greater. for exemplary performance when the next incremental percentage threshold is achieved. For resource reuse of furniture and furnishings, the credit calculation must be 60% or greater. for exemplary performance when the requirements reach the next incremental step. For rapidly renewable materials, the credit calculation must be 10% or greater. For regionally manufactured materials, the credit calculation must be 40% or greater. For regionally extracted materials, the calculation must be 20% or greater. The availability of two points in EQ Credits 8.1 and 8.2 preclude the opportunity to earn a third point using the same criteria. for exemplary performance when the requirements reach the next incremental step. For certified wood, the credit calculation must yield 95% or greater.

Based on evidence that locations with higher transit density can achieve substantially and a quantifiably higher environmental benefit, meeting the following threshold qualifies a project for exemplary performance Innovation Credit. This follows the Center for Clean Air Policy's finding that average transit ridership increases by 0.5% for every 1.0% increase in growth of transit service levels, which leads to the conclusion that quadrupling transit service generally doubles transit ridership. To accomplish this quadrupling of service and doubling of ridership, at a minimum: Locate the project within 1/2 mile of at least two existing commuter rail, light rail, or subway lines, OR locate project within 1/4 mile of at least two or more stops for four or more public or campus bus lines usable by building occupants; AND Frequency of service must be such that at least 200 transit rides per day are available in total at these stops. A combination of rail and bus is allowable. This strategy is based on the assumption that the threshold of the base credit would provide, in most cases, at least 50 transit rides per day (half-hourly service 24 hours per day or more frequent service for less than 24 hours per day). If, on average, transit ridership increases by 0.5% for every 1.0% increase in transit service, then quadrupling the number of rides available would, on average, double the transit ridership. (4 x 50 rides = 200 rides). Include a transit schedule and map within your LEED certification submittal. Based on evidence that higher density locations can achieve substantially and quantifiably higher environmental benefits, the following threshold requirements can be used to qualify a project for an exemplary performance Innovation Credit: A LEED for Commercial Interiors project must first meet the first compliance path (density) in SSc2 of LEED for Commercial v2.0 (Pilot projects may use the LEED for Commercial Interiors pilot version of SSc2). Additionally, the average density of the area within an area twice as large as for the base credit achievement must be at least 120,000 square feet per acre. These requirements are based on the decision that a project achieving exemplary this credit should: Not lower the existing average density of the area, Achieve a density of at least twice the threshold of the base credit, AND/OR Locate within an area of established density that is larger than that required for the base credit, which is why the radius used in the base credit has been doubled.
