The association

The association

The association The association of local authorities for environment and levying of taxes in the district of Sankt Pölten is constituted of 37 municipalities. Its aim is to manage all matters that belong to the household waste in common. The association is part of the public authority, just like a community as administration department.

The association Inhabitants: ~ 96.700 Area: ~ 1.043 km², rural structure Municipalities: 37 Households: ~ 36.200 Municipal household waste 2011: 33.000 tons Biowaste: 4.900 tons = 135 kg/hh = 50 kg/inh Bulky green waste: 4.000 tons = 110 kg/hh = 41 kg/inh Fine green waste: 2.000 tons = 55 kg/hh = 20 kg/inh ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Total: 10.900 tons = 300 kg/hh = 111 kg/inh Households with Bio-bin: ~ 38%

Collecting system with prices With the curb side system every household gets: For residual waste a 120 litre ( 114,98) or 240 litre ( 162,46) litre dark grey bin, multi-storey building receive bins with 1.100 litres (10 flats, 1.035,-) For paper and paperboard a 240 litre red bin (the charge is included in the residual waste charge) For plastic packing material yellow bags (110 litres) (collection is included in the selling price), multi-storey building get bins with 1.100 litres

The collection of organic waste nearby the domicile The households collect their biological waste in 10 litre buckets with certified compostable bags made from corn starch as liners. They are provided by the association. Payment with a charge. 52 bags / year (part of the fee)

The collection of organic waste close to the domicile You put the filled bags into the 120 l ( 68, 20/year) or 240 l ( 136,40/year) bio bins. Collection and washing is done by a contracted company every 2 weeks.

The waste collection The door-to door collection is done at the curbside of every house by a compacting truck. They deliver the bio-waste in an alternating rotation to 5 different agricultural on-farm composting plants in the district.

No long transports Contracts with the association money from costumers is given to the operating farmers manufacturing costs Closed loop recycling management organic fertilizer or instead of humus long lasting benefits for soil & environment
