MINING: Profitable Experiences with Renewable Energies.

ISSUE: Energy Cost is a very substantial portion of the operation cost of a Mine. SOLUTION: Intelligent integration of RE renewable energy can address both energy cost and carbon footprint for mines. Slide 2

Hybrid Solutions for Mining: Concept. To provide power & energy in areas which do not have access to electricity from the national grid, hybrid solutions are based on harnessing renewable energy resources available in a specific area. These range from wind to solar and hydro energy, that are supported for night operation or not proper weather conditions with a diesel unit making a hybrid solution. Slide 3

Hybrid Solutions for Mining: Example (AU). Set Up: Diesel (4 x 320kW) PV (1 x 500kW) Flywheel (1x500kW) 60% Penetration of RE Benefits: Saving of Diesel 405,000 liters per year 1,100 TM CO2 saving per year Slide 4

Hybrid Solutions: Engineering & Technologies. PV Photovoltaic Power Technology. Turnkey Solutions ( EPC ) with 1000 or 100 V. Silicon or Thin Film. Fix, 1 Axis or 2 Axis. Concentrating Solar Power Technology ( Linear Fresnel ). Turnkey Solutions ( EBoP ) with oil, salt or vapour. Generation Electricity and/or Vapour. Battery Storage Power Technology. Storage option for all solar technologies. Turnkey solution. Stabilization System 4 Net Flywheel - reserve for peak demand and load fluctuation. Turnkey solution. Micro-grids and Hybrid Power Technology. Turnkey QG solutions for: Wind + PV + Fly wheel Biomass + PV + Fly wheel Pumping storage + PV + Diesel. Slide 5

Slide 6

Hybrid Solutions: Typical Configuration. It is often desirable to design a system with additional source of power. The most common type of hybrid system contains a gas or diesel powered engine generator, being another hybrid approach is a PV/Wind system or hydro-pumping /Solar. Adding a wind or reverse pumping turbine to a PV system provides complementary power generation. A hybrid remote power system integrates two or more power sources, using intelligent controls to manage the system operation. Inherently reliable due to multiple power sources. PV Hybrid systems generally use gas/diesel generating set-capable of providing full rated power on demand as the second energy source Stabilization to grid connection can be provided in order to avoid voltage perturbances by means of power-store solutions who covers the oscillations of renewable energy It secures 24 hours operation despite of the strength of the MV line Slide 7
