Hellenic Natural Gas Transmission System Operator Transparency Workshop Brussels, 14 September 2010
Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA) SA DESFA was established in March 2007 after the completion of the Legal Unbundling procedure of the Public Gas Corporation of Greece (DEPA S.A.), in accordance with European Directive 2003/55 and the Greek Law 3428/2005, for the liberalization of the natural gas market
Hellenic Natural Gas Transmission System Operator The mission of DESFA is to formulate a comprehensive, technically superior and cost-effective National Gas System so that it: Meets the needs of natural gas users safely, adequately and reliably. Upgrades the participation of natural gas in the energy balance of Greece. Allows the optimization of the competitive advantages of natural gas in public infrastructure, business activities and everyday life.
National Natural Gas System The NNGA consists of : main high pressure gas transmission pipeline high pressure branches liquefied natural gas Terminal Natural Gas Metering and Regulating Stations Control Center and the Load Distribution Center Operation and Maintenance Centres Additional facilities and infrastructure
SIDIROKASTRO Main entry points and capacities KIPOI Max tech. Capacity : 660.000 Νm 3 /h AGIA TRIADA (LNG) Max tech. Capacity : 850.000 Νm 3 /h Max tech. Capacity : 520.000 Νm 3 /h
The current role of LNG in the Greek gas market maintains the minimum operating pressure in the System can cover peak gas demand peak shaving strategic security of supply provides an alternative supply source It is an entry point for new entrants to the Greek gas market future commercial role, South East Europe, New entrant gate

An overall view of the current situation in DESFA S.A Some problems that still exist: - There is still no provision of data from the market participants, or that provision is very limited. - There is a minimal collaboration with the users. - It is not decided yet who will cover the costs of the publications in the webside. - 60% of gas customers in Greece are single final customers or production facilities. That causes a problem in publicizing data.
An overall view of the current situation in DESFA S.A On the other hand.. - Almost half of the requirements of the Regulation 715/2009 already exist in our website in Greek (www.desfa.gr), as the update was done last month (August 2010). - Therefore it is a matter of time that the texts and data will be translated also in English (estimated at the end of September 2010). - The discussions about Regulation 715/2009 with the Greece Regulatory Authority for Energy (RAE) have started recently. - Also we are currently in the procedure of updating our website so as to be able to fulfill the requirements of the Regulation No 715/2009 until March 2011
