Student Talking Points: Describe your company s core mission and core values. Introduce the business opportunity by providing the audience with your business idea or company s pitch. Identify for the audience the type of business and clearly state the industry and corporate structure classified for this business type. Briefly introduce the company s executive or principal leadership and state their qualifications. Provide specific experience that support the leaderships qualification to run the business. 8
Student Talking Points: In 1 minute or less drill down and provide the talking points listed above succinctly. Clearly state each bullet and provide the industry size in gross dollars or total population. Make sure the audience is clear on how you define your customer and the percentage of the market place they represent. Again this can be signified by using a dollar amount or percentage of the market population. Research and review this information thoroughly. Be prepared for re direct questions. To demonstrate understanding of competitive advantage you may want to create a separate slide or prop to illustrate how your product or service matches up with the competition. This can be done with a table or matrix or providing a side by side comparisons. Key Points: A well illustrated example will provide a firm understanding of your products position and will yield a positioning statement. Your comparative analysis should essentially provide the differentiating factor or unique quality of your product or service. As you present this information you want to convey to the audience clearly your position through need or void in the marketplace. The audience should clearly have a sense of 1) why this product or service is needed or what problem it is solving and 9
2) what makes the product or service different or unique from what may already may be in the marketplace and/or 3) What is new to the marketplace/ considered innovative technology 9
Student Talking Points: Here is a good place to show your product again and/or recap from your pitch demonstration how the product or service works or will work. Clearly state how you will get to the product to your customer. What are your distribution channels? If applicable, how will you manage your supply chain? Identify price and key promotional methods for entering the market. Key points: How do your pricing and promotional strategies compare with your competitors? Emphasize revenue model. 10
Student Talking Points: What promotional techniques will be used to promote the product or service? What are the advantages or rationale of using these techniques over others? Be prepared to justify later an understanding of associated marketing costs including proposed strategies and their effect on your bottom line. Key Points: Research the most effective methods for connecting with your specific target market. Be prepared to justify this information during the re direct. 11
Student Talking Points: State the 1 st year gross revenues, net revenues, followed by a breakdown of fixed and variable costs. Demonstrate your understanding by providing sales forecasts and breakeven points. What do you project your monthly sales in dollars or units; what is your break even point. Key Points: Provide substantial evidence that you understand all costs. A well diagrammed analysis will clearly illustrate your analysis. Show an abbreviated income statement; forecast chart; and your break even point. 12
Student Talking Points: Clearly state the total or sum costs of expenditures, personal or business cash reserves, and the total sum investment. Key Points: Convey to investors you understand the principal requirements for starting your business. Discuss the need for initial capital investment and key requirements to launch your business.
