Leading the way in injection moulding Through continuous innovative developments, ARBURG has consistently been involved in shaping the future of injection moulding technology for more than 50 years. ALLROUNDER injection moulding technology economically processes a wide variety of materials. Only specialists recognise the potential of this technology and of these machines. Yet millions of people use articles on a daily basis, the production of which would be impossible without ARBURG technology. To this end, we can all appreciate daily what it is that fascinates and spurs on the company: the ever-growing range of applications for plastics and other materials, the diversity of which is promoted by ARBURG technology as used on a daily basis all over the world. 3

Expansion for the future The mass-production ALLROUNDER technology providing clamping forces from 125 kn to as high as 5000 kn, along with high-performance peripherals such as the MULTILIFT robotic system, form all kinds of plastic-based materials into ever new and practical shapes. ARBURG manufactures its internationally-renowned injection moulding machines in a manufacturing facility with an area of approximately 146,000 square metres. The facility is home to research and design, development and administration. A modern working environment for approximately 1,680 employees has 4

been created in Lossburg over the course of the years as a result of a carefully planned and executed strategy. ARBURG currently has over 2,000 employees worldwide. Expansion at ARBURG is not undertaken purely for the sake of it, but is based on long-term strategic considerations. ARBURG is a manufacturer of machines and plants but all of its planning involves conscientious regard for environmental issues as a matter of course. The company is not only certified to the DIN EN ISO 9001 standard but also to DIN EN ISO 14001 on the basis of thoroughgoing environmental management. 5

Active throughout the world ARBURG injection moulding technology is exported from Lossburg throughout the world. The export share is approximately 60% of total production. 6

The high export share ARBURG enjoy requires efficient machine production planning, as well as global presence. All ARBURG customers should be able to benefit from the same, comprehensive range of services. With locations in more than 20 countries worldwide and more than 30 international trading partners, ARBURG has a worldwide sales and service network. 7

Making ideas reality ARBURG creates injection moulding technology that best meets the wide-ranging production requirements in modern-day practice. The philosophy that lies behind this technological feat encompasses mass-production, abandoning inflexible reliance on machines of horizontal design and ensuring modularity of all developments. This common base has been built up by ARBURG over the course of the years. The ARBURG machine concept presently includes ALLROUNDERs with swivelling clamping units and interchangeable injection units as well as the VARIO concept and other modular systems, which are optimally engineered to customer requirements. 8

High-quality production ARBURG itself places the highest demands on the quality and function of its injection moulding machines. This dedication is recognised in the certification of its integrated management concept according to DIN EN ISO 9001 and DIN EN ISO 14001 that apply to quality within the company and its procedures relating to the environment. ARBURG manufactures in-house about sixty percent of the technical equipment it employs itself. The ALLROUNDERs are manufactured exclusively in Lossburg and even the plastic components for machines and appliances are manufactured using ALLROUNDERS. 10

Investment is ongoing and is made whenever it becomes essential, not only to maintain the functionality of machinery but also to keep the production infrastructure up the latest standards. Machine components are produced on modern, processing centres controlled by CNC. The use of robots during welding, surface coating, partial assembly and component insertion on printed circuit boards ensures a high level of quality and continuous precision. The integration of all these processes into company-wide CIM organisation structures guarantees production which satisfies the highest demands. 11

Providing solutions Practice orientated with regard to performance, economy and technology is a maxim that could be used to describe the whole ARBURG range. Complex technology remains simple and safe to use. Some important advantages distinctive to ARBURG injection moulding technology include: Modular design with step-by-step expansion capability up to full automation The ALLROUNDER concept with various working configurations The VARIO concept with horizontally moveable injection unit Modularity of drives with logical combinations of hydraulic and servo-electric drives The SELOGICA control system with graphics orientated process management 12

Intelligent control Special highlights include: intelligent SELOGICA control for operating machines and peripherals with TFT graphic screen on a swivelling console Cycle programming via sequence diagram with incremental symbols Display selection with special function keys Overall cycle with visualisation of individual steps Display of the corresponding cycle step during production Graphic display of different processing steps Quality as well as tolerance monitoring with different evaluation programs Selection of required parameters from hierarchical selection levels SELOGICA direct alternative operating option with touchscreen and direct access fields 13

Modular working ALLROUNDER machine technology is modular. This is what makes it so universally applicable. Each machine series provides logical combinations in terms of performance, swivelling clamping units and surfaces, injector units, screw diameters and drive axes. The SELOGICA control system can be adapted for any purpose with the aid of its various equipment packages. The A, C, GOLDEN EDITION, K, S, T and V machine ranges Clamping units with toggle (K), hydraulic (C, GOLDEN EDITION, S, T, V) or servo-electric (A) control Internal distance between tie bars from 170 mm to 920 mm Clamping forces from 125 to 5,000 kn Shot weights up to 2583 g in Polystyrene 14

Safe operation ARBURG robotic systems provide the customer with all the advantages of the joint development of the ALLROUNDER and the robotic system directly without making any concessions: MULTILIFT H, horizontally-operating for fast removal procedures MULTILIFT V, operating vertically from above with maximum flexibility MULITLIFT HV, combines the advantages of horizontal and vertical part removal All robotic systems can be fully integrated into the SELOGICA machine control system The robotic system and machines all share a uniform operating concept Data records for robotic systems can also be integrated into the machine data record 15

Varying the manufacturing process The VARIO principle is based upon the horizontal movement of the injection unit perpendicular to the fixed platen of the clamping mechanism. Besides the central position, the injection unit is able to approach any other injection position in its traversing range. This methodology means production can be more easily adapted to the design and requirements of the parts to be moulded. Using the VARIO principle it is possible to reach all moulding areas up to the linear filling of injection moulded parts without having to move the injection unit from its horizontal position into the parting line. Using off-centre injection, a heated nozzle may be used which makes sprueless injection moulding possible. Even in injection positions such as this, the mould position can remain centred to the machine axis. Thus, the optimal moment of the force on the mould remains intact. 16

Optimising production ARBURG also offers its customer numerous software and hardware components for optimising production, each of which is logically engineered to match the rest of the technology. AQS: online monitoring and documentation of product quality AQC: process optimisation and monitoring using process identifier ALS: modular production management system ARS: remote control of machines via internet COPYLOG: external floppy disc administration for set-up data records 17

Utilising expertise ARBURG has machines specially equipped with accessories and peripherals for many applications involving plastics technology: Multi-component, interval and sandwich injection moulding Gas-injected moulding Water injection technology Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) processing Elastomer processing Thermoset processing Processing of powdered injection materials (PIM) PRELINER for preforms Encapsulation of inserts Clean-room applications 18
