1. Global Strategy -Overview An initiative of the UNSC to be implemented in 90 countries in the world and 20 countries in Asia Pacific region over 5 years Developed through extensive consultation with international organizations, national stakeholders and NGSs Focus on Strategic Planning, Capacity Building, and Research

Impact Improve evidence-based decision making for poverty reduction, food security, sustainable agriculture and rural development

Outcome Enable target countries to develop sustainable agricultural statistical systems Dissemination of accurate and timely agricultural and rural statistics, that are comparable over time and across countries.

TCP/RAS/3409 -Building statistical capacity for quality food security and nutrition information in support of better informed policiesfor Bangladesh, Lao PDR, Philippines and Nepal. Agricultural Census GCP/CMB/040/MUL - First National Census of Agriculture in Cambodia

3. Possibilities of collaboration with ASEAN FAO participated in the ASEAN events: EU-ASEAN Capacity Building Project for Monitoring Integration Progress and Statistics (COMPASS) Program Launch (14 Oct 2014) ASEAN Community Statistical System (ACSS) Committee Meeting (15-16 Oct 2014)

3. Possibilities of collaboration with ASEAN Feedback from the events: EU-COMPASS Program seeks to strengthen ASEAN regional integration and regional statistics through: Improved dissemination and communication of ASEAN statistics Regional Cooperation and Capacity Building in Statistics (ASEAN assist ASEAN) Focus areas for ASEAN statistics: International Merchandise Trade Statistics, (IMTS) Foreign Direct Investment Statistics (FDIS) Statistics in International Trade in Services(SITS) Agricultural statistics not yet a priority area for ACSS and EU-COMPASS Opportunities: Better information exchange between two organizations Through coordinated efforts at country level Better monitoring of food security situation for ASEAN members by Including improvement of Agri-stat in ASEAN programme Partnership for GS implementation in AP participation in RSC of GS Cooperation on Technical Assistance / Training activities

4. APCAS Secretariat The biennial meetings of the Commission are organized to: (i) assess the current status of food and agricultural statistical development in member countries; (ii) inform the member countries about the FAO activities in food and agricultural statistics during the preceding biennium, particularly in Asia and the Pacific; and (iii) discuss new developments in agricultural statistics. Next 26 th session will be organized in Bhutan in 2016
