Courageous Principals From Insight to Action Deloitte University, The Leadership Center

Insight The children in school today are tomorrow s leaders of our businesses, our communities, and our country. What shapes their performance, makes them stronger and more capable, and influences their ability to lead? Turns out, to a large degree, it s their principal. A single principal has the power to influence dozens of teachers, who in turn will influence hundreds of students. These principals strength as leaders has an exponential impact on our future.

One of the best leadership experiences I ve had in 20 years in education. Don t stop this program as you have an opportunity to have an incredible impact. Principal

Action Knowing the impact principals make, Deloitte has created a program for principals leveraging what it does every day for its own people developing great leaders. The program is Courageous Principals, From Insight to Action and, with it, Deloitte intends to improve the futures of more than 100,000 students in the program s first year. Teaming with other members of the business community, government and not-for-profit entities, and school systems themselves, we will provide public school principals with insights to enable them to become more effective leaders and bring change to their schools. Through Courageous Principals, public school principals will be immersed in an intensive 2.5 day program geared to enhance leadership including an understanding of personality types and how to relate to each, effective communication based on desired outcomes, and how to have difficult conversations at all levels. Courageous Principals also presents a rare opportunity for education leaders to network, share ideas, relay real-world stories, address specific challenges and opportunities, and work together to develop collaborative strategies. Based on our demonstrated leadership training for Deloitte professionals, the curriculum is immersive and dynamic with role playing, peer-to-peer interaction, collaborative sessions, and extensive take-home guides to encourage retention and sharing of information with staff and colleagues. The facilitators, learning, setting, and sincerity of purpose exhibited by all involved, was over the top. Pilot Program Participant

Commitment At Deloitte, Corporate Responsibility is a core belief. Courageous Principals is one way we re demonstrating that. In July 2013, a pilot session was held at Deloitte University with approximately 50 principals representing schools from four states in attendance. The principals described the program as energizing, inspirational, relevant, and enlightening. Over the next year, we re committed to providing similar training sessions to up to 500 principals from across the nation and, ultimately, impact over 100,000 students. To meet this goal, we will work with other businesses and non-profits that are committed to education in the communities where we live and work and view this program as an investment in the talent of our future. After all, the people who will lead our businesses, who will make the next breakthroughs in science and society, who will solve the world s greatest challenges, are sitting in a classroom right now. This is our opportunity to help them, by supporting the professionals who lead them. Join Deloitte in supporting Courageous Principals. For more information on the program and how it impacts your community, visit: www.deloitte.com/us/courageousprincipals. Deloitte is on a gamechanging course for educational leadership development.
