Position Description Mandate The Director, Aboriginal Trust Services is accountable for contributing to the estate and trust services business plan by effectively administering a book of complex Aboriginal Trust accounts and increasing the number of new clients with the objective of growing the overall BMOPB revenue. The Directors, Aboriginal Trust Services have exceptional fiduciary and organisational skills, recognize potential business opportunities to BMO FG and BMOPB business partners and exhibit excellent team building skills. Knowledge and Skills Knowledge University Degree. Personal Trust Accreditation MTI or TEP or a professional designation (LLB. or C.A.). Minimum of 10 years working in the trust industry. Proven track record in administering and growing a profitable book of trust accounts. Recognized as an expert in Aboriginal Trust Administration in the Private Bank and in the industry. Skills Expert fiduciary knowledge and complex problem solving capability. Exceptional client service and interpersonal skills including the capacity to establish and manage diverse relationships with aboriginal clients. Exceptional Organization skills. Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal. Strong business development experience and successful track record.

Key Accountabilities Managerial Leadership: Set appropriate context and direction for the vision within the market, ensuring alignment with the vision Establish a two-way working relationship with direct reports to solicit their views on market opportunities, the working environment, potential changes affecting their work, continuous improvement opportunities, and revisions to the plan Build and sustain a team of direct reports who are capable of delivering the performance required for BMO Private Banking, including coaching and the creation and implementation of training and development plans Establish and optimize team integration by articulating the linkages between the accountabilities and authorities of different roles across the group and by establishing the context in which they will work collaboratively with one another Ensure all integrating mechanisms are in place for all sales professionals in order to facilitate team behaviours and the focus on the integrated offer (e.g., appropriate training across product lines) Apply the Bank s performance management system to direct reports, including establishing goals and objectives, assessing skilled knowledge gaps, allocating resources to achieve objectives and close gaps, assessing personal effectiveness, and reviewing and recommending base and variable pay Ensure the effective implementation of Bank initiatives and programs through the establishment of appropriate context and setting of direction for direct reports by providing relevant information, establishing goals, and setting limits with the context and prescribed limits of the Vice-President and Regional Market Leader Develop and sustain an effective multi-level unit, as a manager of managers, ensuring the quality of effective managerial leadership practices of managers; conducting talent pool assessment with managers on the capability of their staff; and holding mentoring discussions with and hearing requests from employees Strategy and Business Planning/ Development: Lead the development and implementation of a 1-2 year market business development plan to support the achievement of both LOB goals and market goals, in alignment with the overall regional strategic business plan Maintain focus and be an advocate for the Private Bank integrated offer and client experience in all strategic, business development and operational plans to support the overall vision for Private Banking within the market Develop and maintain effective relationships with LOB Heads and other key National Office employees to ensure ongoing collaboration and focus on growing overall Private Banking business
Identify and execute business development plan/strategies and tactics, with a focus on the integrated offer for Private Banking, to achieve business growth and retain existing Private Banking clients Play a leadership role in sales and marketing to support the overall brand image for BMO Private Banking within the market and the effective promotion of Private Banking to wealthy clients and prospects Establish and enhance the Private Banking profile in the community by participating in worthwhile business and community activities and seeking out and creating opportunities to promote BMO Private Banking ; including but not limited to public speaking, presentations, customer events, employee events, and community events Develop internal and external networks and referrals sources to ensure the ongoing growth of the business within the region Develop and maintain effective relationships with BMO Financial Group Executives and Managers in the market to ensure ongoing collaboration and clarity to drive overall business growth for BMO Financial Group Maintain expertise (banking, investment management or wealth services) to ensure professional credibility with LOB professionals and external community Sales Management: Lead and implement a disciplined approach for all sales strategies, sales management and goals to support market business growth and the focus on the client Champion a consultative selling approach within the market and the development of integrated financial solutions while maintaining a high level of local market awareness with respect to economic trends and competitor activity Reinforce Private Banking sales process and client experience, identifying gaps, issues and best practices through the monitoring of sales and performance targets against plans in order to create and sustain a sales environment that ensures consistent superior service to Private Banking clients and prospects Risk Management & Compliance: Set direction for risk management and compliance practices for the market in accordance with corporate standards and continually reinforce the attention to detail that is required in meetings with leaders within the market Ensure the effective monitoring of operational controls is in place to identify any deficiencies and support the initiation of appropriate corrective actions to ensure controls are adequate Manage risk and minimize losses through audit, monitoring and control reports and functions, ensuring compliance requirements, audits and verifications are completed in accordance with Bank policies & procedures and regulatory, legal and ethical requirements Monitor completion of Operational Effectiveness requirements outlined in Policy & Procedures and other communications to manage risk within acceptable limits Ensure Expense Risk Management is applied in accordance with BMO Policy & Procedures and within prescribed limits Ensure adherence to all aspects of First Principles our code of Business Conduct and Ethics including individual accountability as it relates to potential conflicts of interest, safeguarding of customer information, trading in securities, anti-money laundering, privacy and disclosure of outside business activities
