Waterproofing Only 15 Year Expected Durability Substrate Prior to priming all substrates must be clean dry and sound free from any oxidisation, mold and any other deleterious materials. For further information please contact technical customer services First Coat Sikalastic -625 0.75 L/m 2 Top Coat Sikalastic -625 0.75 L/m 2 Localised Reinforcement (prior to top coat system) Asbestos Roof Sheets Side & End Laps: All side and end laps should be bridged by applying an embedment coat of Sikalastic -625 at a minimum wet film thickness of 1000 microns and whilst wet, insert Sika Reemat Premium Glass Fibre Matting, precut to requirements, following by brushing/tamping until the mat is completely embedded and thoroughly saturated. Allow to dry before continuing. Corrugated Metal Roof Sheets Bolt Heads and Fixings End Laps (Metal Roof Sheets): In order to accommodate expansion/ contraction at end laps of metal roof sheets and prior to applying the waterproofing membrane, a 'bond break' should be introduced at each joint by first laying 50mm (minimum width) low tack debonding tape centred on the joint. Follow by applying a full coat of Sikalastic -625, approximately 33% wider than the tape and joint combined and whilst wet, insert Sika Flexitape Heavy (150mm) into the wet membrane by gentle pressure from a loaded brush, thus applying further material until the tape is obliterated. Allow to dry before continuing with the top coats. Side Laps: All side laps should be bridged with Sikalastic -625 and Sika Flexitape Heavy (150mm). Apply a full coat of membrane to the designated areas, (approx. 33% wider than the tape width and centred on the crack or joint) and whilst wet, insert the tape by gentle pressure from a loaded brush, thus applying further material until the tape is obliterated. Allow to dry before continuing with the top coats. Bolt Heads/Fixings: Bolt heads/fixings for items fixed to the deck, upstands etc that would otherwise protrude through the coating should be treated with Sika Flexistrip to protect the membrane system from puncture damage. After cleaning the fixing as required, pre-cut 50mm squares, remove the backing and fix by light pressure to the edges of the patches. Do not exert hard pressure in an attempt to form the tape to contours. On completion, keep clean and avoid foot pressure damage prior to coating with the waterproofing system. All fixings should then be bridged by applying an embedment coat of Sikalastic -625 a minimum wet film thickness of 1000 microns and whilst wet, insert Sika Reemat Premium Glass Fibre Matting, pre-cut 100mm squares, following by rollering/brushing/tamping (as required) until the mat is completely embedded and thoroughly saturated. Allow to dry before continuing. Sikalastic-625 3/9
Gutter Systems 15 Year Expected Durability First Coat: Apply an initial embedment coat of Sikalastic -625 to the primed, sound gutter surfaces, using a minimum quantity of 1 litre per square metre (equivalent to a maximum spread rate of 1 square metre per litre) and whilst wet, strengthen by inserting Reemat Premium glass fibre matting, followed by rollering until the mat is completely embedded and thoroughly saturated. Top Coat: Apply a coat of Sikalastic -625 to these reinforced areas by roller (brushes may be used for detail work) using a minimum quantity of 1.25 litre per square metre (equivalent to a maximum spread rate of 0.8 square metre per litre) Completion: On completion of coating works, check the finish for pinholes, voids, damage, etc. Spot treat to rectify. Gutter Joints Typical Test Data - System Dry Film Thickness Metal Gutters Bolted Joints/ Fixings: Bridge each bolt head/ fixing with Sika Flexistrip (minimum 50mm squares) by first removing the backing paper and applying light pressure to the patch edges to fix. Encapsulate each fixing/ joint detail using Sika Reemat Premium patches, cut to requirements and bedded in Sikalastic -625, applied at a minimum wet film thickness of 1000 microns. Allow to dry before continuing with the overall waterproofing. Apply the fully reinforced system through the metal gutter as specified. 710 microns (unreinforced) Tensile Strength 11 N/mm 2 EN ISO 527 1/3 Tear Strength 14.2 N/mm (reinforced with Flexitape) Tensile Elongation 400% EN ISO 527 1/3 Application Details Substrate Quality Asbestos Cement and Asbestos free Equivalent Substrates Always ensure strict compliance with Health and Safety Executive requirements when working with asbestos containing materials. Surfaces should be wetted before cleaning to prepare the substrate. Metals Metals must be in sound condition. PVC/Plastisol Coated Roofs/PVF2 Sikalastic-625 can be applied to clean, soundly adhered PVC /Plastisol/PVF2 roofs. Paints/Coatings Ensure the existing material is sound and firmly adhered. Existing Sikalastic-625 Systems The existing Sikalastic -625 system should still be soundly adhered to the substrate. Sikalastic-625 4/9
Substrate Preparation General: Inspect the existing substrate and check that it is soundly adhered. Clean the substrate using a water jet at approximately 14N/mm 2 (2000 p.s.i). Ideally use a warm water detergent solution and rinse thoroughly before allowing to dry. Asbestos Cement and Asbestos free Equivalent Substrates Apply only to dry, pitched surfaces not subject to ponding water. Bolt heads should be primed using Metal Primer. If the substrate is damp use Damp Tolerant Epoxy Primer. Always ensure strict compliance with Health and Safety Executive requirements when working with asbestos-containing materials. Metal Components Steelwork is ideally prepared to Sa2½ (Swedish Standard SIS 05: 5900 = 2nd quality BS4232 = S.S.P.C. grade SP10) OR as indicated by the blasting specification which may be of a higher standard. Where blasting is not permitted, clean metal preparation by pin hammer, etc. is acceptable. Non-ferrous metals are prepared as follows. Remove any deposits of dust and oxidation and abrade to bright metal. Wire brushing can be used for soft metal such as lead. The surface must be clean and free from grease which, if present, must be removed with a proprietary solution. Wash with detergent, rinse and dry. Metal Sheets Metal Sheets must be inspected for corrosion and structural integrity. If the structural integrity is compromised the affect sheets must be replaced*. Small areas of corrosion can be cut out and replaced with matching profile if appropriate. Remaining small areas of corrosion must be repaired by a suitable method to remove any visible corrosion. PVC/Plastisol Coated Roofs/PVf2 Existing coatings must be soundly adhered and free from signs of corrosion. Remove loose or degraded coatings to a firm edge. Ensure the surface is clean and free from grease. Clean the substrate using a water jet at approximately 14N/mm 2 (2000 p.s.i). Ideally use a warm water detergent solution and rinse thoroughly before allowing to dry. Care must be taken to ensure that the preparatory treatment does not damage the galvanized protective layer. For any areas of exposed metal please see the advice above. Paints/Coatings/Existing Soladex Systems Existing coatings must be soundly adhered and free from signs of corrosion. If corrosion is present refer to metal sheet preparation section. Remove loose or degraded coatings to a firm edge. Ensure the surface is clean and free from grease. Clean the substrate using a water jet at approximately 14N/mm2 (2000 p.s.i). Ideally use a warm water detergent solution and rinse thoroughly before allowing to dry. Care must be taken to ensure that the preparatory treatment does not damage the galvanized protective layer. *Where questions exist as to the suitability of a substrate for coating, the services of a qualified structural surveyor must be sought. Note: For the Waiting Time/Overcoating you should refer to the technical datasheet of the appropriate cleaner. Other substrates must be tested for their compatibility. If in doubt, apply a test area first. Sikalastic-625 5/9
