Our mandate is to meet client demands for engineering firms to adapt to market conditions and offer greater efficiency, few overheads and core people to get the job done. The formation of AE Projects as a viable, competitive alternative to Tier 1 engineering firms has been the joint initiative of multidisciplinary engineering consultancy ASPEC and specialist electrical engineering and project services firm Elical. With established offices in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia, our local knowledge supports the delivery of our global expertise. AE Projects is fully equipped to scale and execute quickly to meet our clients specific shortto-medium-term goals. SYDNEY METRO NORTHWEST - VIADUCT PROOF ENGINEERING CLIENT: IMPREGILO-SALINI JOINT VENTURE (ISJV) ISJV was principal design and build contractor for a A$340m surface and viaducts contract to construct a 4.6km Skytrain section comprising a precast segmental elevated viaduct. AE Projects worked in the joint venture as proof engineer to perform an independent design check of the viaduct and cable-stayed bridge. 03

DEMONSTRATED RESULTS AE Projects is equipped to tackle unique and diverse challenges. As an example, we recently undertook the detailed design of a 3.3 MW sea water cooling pump station and the sea water return line and discharge diffuser as part of Nyrstar s Port Pirie Transformation Project. PORT PIRIE TRANSFORMATION PROJECT SEA WATER PUMP STATION CLIENT: NYRSTAR The pump station is based around three 1.1 MW vertical turbine pumps in a concrete wet well (pictured left). The intake into the well is through three passive screens which can be cleaned by air burst back flushing. Following its path through the plant process systems, the cooling water is then discharged back into the Port Pirie River through an underwater diffuser recessed into the river bed. Preparing a functional layout for the pump station including sizing of the pump well. Significant changes were made to the original concept design to decrease construction costs Assisting with the selection of the sea water cooling pumps Undertaking detailed design of plant piping including AutoPIPE modelling of the main pipeline. Pipe materials were selected to decrease cost and provide adequate corrosion resistance where required Selection of valves Design of the earthworks as well as concrete and steel structures including temporary construction earthworks and coffer dams Specifying and assisting with procurement of the intake screens and intake isolation penstocks Detailed design of the discharge diffuser for return of cooling water to the Port Pirie River Specifying and assisting with the selection of instrumentation. Electrical interface design. Input into HAZOP, design reviews, constructability reviews, and access and maintenance reviews. 3D drafting, enabling the pump station model to be imported into the overall site model and the model to be available to the construction contractor. Lean and fit-for purpose processes.
