General Information General Information The hüma Parkettsystem is a multi layer parquet flooring that is sealed along the narrow surface and ready to install. The parquet is 14 mm thick. The dimensions of one parquet element are 1203 mm x 143 mm. These installation and care instructions apply to the hüma Hydro PARQUET (oiled) and hüma RESISTANT PARQUET (coated). The surface of hüma Hydro Parquet is oxidative oiled. The surface of hüma ResistanT Parquet is varnished. Please observe the different care instructions at the end of this manual. Here you can find informations especially for the Initial Treatment of hüma Hydro PARQUET. hüma ResistanT Parquet geensures that both the parquet surface and the joint areas are impermeable to water. hüma HYDRO PARQUET guarantees a waterresistant surface if treated regularly according to the care instructions and ensures that the joint areas are impermeable to water. Before installing the product, please ensure that the subfloor is sufficiently sealed against rising dampness, particularly in wet areas. Damage to the products caused by a failure to do so is not covered by the guarantee or warranty claims. Please contact your screed layer or the building firm that is laying your parquet flooring. The processes for preparing and sealing the subfloor for the hüma PARKETTSYSTEM are identical to the preparation for conventional tiling, for example, and do not entail additional costs. 4
General Information It is all the more important to seal the subfloor against damp carefully if you also intend to lay inorganic tiles in sections of the wet area. Please note: In contrast to the hüma PARQUET FLOORING SYSTEM, the joints of inorganic tiles are not impermeable to water! Warranty claims are granted in bathrooms or rooms with intense water use only if the entire area of the hüma PARKETTSYSTEM is bonded with the subfloor. It is recommended to choose a full-surface bonding, especially when installing on underfloor heating. Should you prefer floating installation in dry rooms, it is advisable to lay a film that is resistant to vapour diffusion before laying the impact-sound insulation. This film should be laid with an overlap of at least 5 10 cm, and the overlapping parts should be bonded with suitable adhesive tape. Interior climate conditions In order to maintain the quality of your parquet floor, but also for your own personal well-being, an interior climate of approximately 50% - 60% relative air humidity with a room temperature of approximately 20ºC is ideal. We recommend the use of a humidifier to keep the air humidity constant, particularly during the heating season. This will prevent any extreme drying out of the floor. Humidifiers should be used from the beginning of the heating season. In order to ensure optimum results for your hüma PARQUET, we recommend that you have it laid by an expert. Please feel free to contact us in this matter at info@huema.de 5
Installation Notes Installation Notes 1. ACCLIMATISATION To allow for acclimatisation, the closed packets should be stored at room temperature and lying flat for at least 48 hours before starting the installation. 2. CHECK FOR FAULTS IN THE MATERIAL Please check the individual parquet blocks for visible faults and damage prior to the installation. We accept complaints only if the parquet blocks have not been installed. Since wood is a natural product, possible differences in colour and structure are natural and intended. Please sort the parquet strips before laying them in order to achieve a harmonious overall picture. 3. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE SUBFLOOR We recommend screed as the optimum subfloor. If the entire surface of the parquet flooring is to be bonded with the subfloor, the screed must be free of cracks, it must not sand, and it must be completely free of any residue. In the case of floating installation, we recommend using impact-sound insulation that is resistant to vapour diffusion. The subfloor should be level +/- 2 mm over 150 cm. All uneven surfaces should be levelled using a suitable filler and/or levelling compound. New screed must be heated specially until it is dry. A verified heating log is required for the warranty of the subsequent work. Limit moisture content without underfloor heating: cement screed, flowing cement screed 2.0 CM (mass) %; calcium sulphate screed, flowing calcium sulphate screed 0.5 CM (mass) %. Subfloor Suitable subflooring: Cement screed (CT), flowing cement screed (CTF) V100 (E1) particle or OSB board Dry screed made from gypsum fibre board or cement fibre Mineral subfloors Smooth anhydrite screed, flowing anhydrite screed Primed mastic asphalt screed (AS) 6
Installation Notes Inspection and preparation of the subfloor: Subflooring should be inspected in accordance with DIN 18 365 Flooring works and DIN 18 356 Parquet works and Section C of the German Construction Contract Procedures (VOB). The subfloor must be compression-resistant, high-tensile, absorbent, free of cracks, dry, level and clean. Soiled subfloors should be cleaned of impurities including oil, grease, wax, paint, plaster, dust and any other substances that may negatively affect adhesion and then primed. Critical subfloors, such as mastic asphalt screed, high-absorption cement screed, cement screed with a slightly sandy surface or old ceramic tiles, require subflooring preparation to ensure a proper subfloor. In this case, the subfloor must be prepared using an appropriate filler or levelling compound as per the manufacturer s instructions. In general, with mastic asphalt screed, it is also essential to remove excess or partially loose quartz sand with a disc sander and then vacuum it with an industrial vacuum cleaner. It is not possible to lay the flooring on an imperfect subfloor, old PVC or glued down felt carpeting. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@huema.de The height of the flooring must be taken into account in order to achieve a barrier-free transition to other rooms.in the case of floating installation, a height of 16 mm is to be assumed for the prefabricated floor including the impact-sound insulation. In the case of full-surface bonding, a height of 16 mm is also to be assumed for the flooring including the parquet adhesive. Installation over underfloor heating: For installation over underfloor heating, full-surface bonding is not always necessary with all product lines of the hüma parquet flooring system. When laying over underfloor heating, the screed must be manufactured in accordance with DIN 18353. Before installation, please ensure that the underfloor heating system has been laid and, after interface coordination, has been heated ready for laying, in compliance with DIN EN 1264 Section 1 4. Detailed instructions can be obtained from your supplier. 7
Installation Notes 4. EXPANSION JOINT / DISTANCE TO THE WALL Since wood expands and contracts in different climatic conditions, a distance to the wall of between 10 mm and 13 mm should be observed all around. All other openings for components that are routed through the prefabricated flooring, such as heating pipes, must be cut out accurately and professionally such that the distance between these components and the parquet is at least 10 mm all around. At least 10-13 mm At least 10-13 mm 5. DIRECTION OF LAYING In order to create a harmonious impression in the room, it is important to select the optimum direction of laying. As a general rule, the long side should be parallel to the incidence of light. If there is more than one window, please orient yourself by the largest window. In large rooms, the long sides of the parquet elements should be at right angles to the long side of the room. This makes the room seem considerably larger and prevents it from having a tube-like effect. 8
Installation Guide Installation Guide Before the parquet flooring can be installed, the subfloor must be prepared See item 3 of the Installation Notes MATERIALS AND TOOLS REQUIRED FOR THE INSTALLATION Gloves, ear protection, safety goggles Suitable measuring equipment (e.g. folding rule) Spacer wedges Circular saw, compound mitre saw if necessary Square Adhesive tape (width between 5 cm and 10 cm) hüma SEALING PROFILE hüma PU SEALANT Spatula Impact-sound insulation (only required for floating installation) Parquet adhesive with EC1 classification and a notched trowel for a full-surface bonding, it is recommended to use 2K PU adhesives or 1K SPU adhesives (for example STAUF SPU-570) LAYING THE IMPACT-SOUND INSULATION (FLOATING INSTALLATION) Impact-sound insulation is required only in the case of floating insulation (without full-surface bonding of the parquet). Clear any dust and dirt from the subfloor before laying the impact-sound insulation. Spread the impact-sound insulation over the entire surface of the subfloor. FULL-SURFACE BONDING Clear any dust and dirt from the subfloor before applying the adhesive. Apply the adhesive using the toothed spatula, as described in the manufacturer s instructions. Apply adhesive only to an area you can cover with parquet promptly. 9
Installation Guide (Please observe the manufacturer s instructions) VerlegLAYING THE PARQUET Think ahead: The last row of parquet must not be too narrow after the longitudinal cut that is usually necessary. If necessary, cut the length of the first row as well. Mark the form of the wall on the first row of parquet and cut the length of the parquet accordingly. Start in a left corner of the room when laying the first row. It must be aligned such that it is straight and be at a distance of between 10 mm and 13 mm from the wall. Join the individual parquet elements together vertically. Use a try square to measure the end pieces and saw them off, taking the distance to the wall into account. Measure the last row and take the distance to the wall into account. 10
Installation Guide CONNECTION WITH THE EDGE OF THE WALL Insert the hüma SEALING PROFILE between the wall and the edge of the parquet and press it down to the unfinished floor. Then mask off the edge of the parquet with adhesive tape and ensure that the tape adheres to the entire surface of the parquet. At least 10-13 mm Sealing profile Adhesive tape Parquet Pour the hüma PU SEALANT into the remaining gap between the wall and the parquet elements and smooth it using a spatula. Make sure that the PU sealant is level with the surface of the parquet so that the intersections are coated with the PU sealant. Leave the sealant to set, and carefully remove the adhesive tape after 24 hours. PU sealant 11
Installation Guide CONNECTIONS FOR HEATING PIPES All openings for components that are routed through the hüma PARKETTSYSTEM must be cut out accurately and professionally such that the distance between these components and the parquet is at least 10 mm all around. All openings must be sealed with the hüma PU SEALANT (procedure as described for the connection with the edge of the wall). SKIRTING BOARD Attach the substructure for the skirting board to the wall as described in the manufacturer s instructions. Cut the skirting boards to size and attach them to the substructure. Bracket for skirting board Skirting board 12
